DEVELOPMENT OF THE SOFTWARE QUALlSOLO MOBILE FOR GEORREFERENCED IRRIGATION CONTROL (original) (raw)

Abstract

This work presents the development of a free software designed to manage irrigation of perennial crops using a pocket PC (PDA) with integrated GPS. The aim is to provide a solution for irrigation management that can be used in a large-scale basis, in different regions of the country at low-cost implementation. Pressure readings from tensiometers are the inputs of the software to be able to inform if irrigation is needed and how long the water should be supplied. Soil water retention mapping can be done in situ, by means of the Vincenty equation combined with GPS coordinates to calculate the distance between two points. In this manner, the soil physical property can be delimited. The regions are stored in a relational database and their characteristic can be retrieved by consulting one or more attributes. The software also has a module of isometric visualization that enables to distinguish the three dimensions of the plots using bi-dimensional graphic processing.
