A study was undertaken in Masinadih village of Samastipur district, Bihar, to know the existing knowledge of the Underprivileged women for various health and nutritional practices. For this the developed knowledge test was subjected to the 50 respondents. For this purpose, primary data have been collected. The findings of the present investigation indicate that most of the respondents 58% were in the category of medium knowledge with mean percent score of 66.95 while 40% percent respondents were in the category of low knowledge with mean percent scores of 45.96 and 8% percent respondents were in the category of high knowledge with mean per cent scores of 100.

Socio-economic appraisal of knowledge of rural women about food and health aspects

Women are equal partner in the progress of any country and play an important role in the development of human society. Health status of women make an impact on their fertility and their role in the development of society, however, some women have poor health status because of a variety of factors like lack of knowledge and unavailability of medical services. This present study was conducted on 120 rural women of two blocks of Kaithal district of Haryana state in India to assess their knowledge about food and health aspects and effect of various socio-economic factors on their knowledge and health status. It was found that more than 50% of the respondents had high general knowledge of food and health aspects whereas their specific knowledge was low (65.00%). Constraints faced by the underprivileged women in acquiring various health and nutritional practices

India is the seventh largest country in the world, yet its women still have to experience some of the worst living situation on the globe. Women are the most affected and have been on leave for a long time. The word “Underprivileged” refers to a “group of persons deprived of a number of fundamental rights”. Underprivileged women are discriminated against not only by the upper caste individuals but also within their own communities. Underprivileged women’s issues and problems vary from those of other Indian women. Owing to illiteracy, poor environmental sanitation and inadequate awareness, the health and nutritional status of Underprivileged women is worse than others, rendering them more vulnerable to health problems. The present study is related to the constraints faced by them in acquiring various health and nutritional practices.

A Study to Analyse the Knowledge Level of Women Beneficiaries of Anganwadi Centres (AWC) Regarding Nutrition in District Budgam of Kashmir Region

IMPACT OF NUTRITION EDUCATION ON KNOWLEDGE OF TRIBAL WOMEN

The study was conducted in purposely selected G. Udayagiri block of Kandhaml district of Odisha to check the nutritional knowledge level regarding various aspects of nutrition. Three villages namely Gambuli, Kalanaju and Siriki were selected purposively because of linkase facility of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra from G. Udayagiri block for the present study. Total 90 tribal women who were ready to participate and interested to be involved in training programme for their self empowerment were purposively selected for this study. Study revealed that tribal women in selected villages were having low awareness in relation to health and nutrition aspect. Majority of the respondents were having improvement habit in the fuel consumption pattern, balanced diet and conservation of nutrients. The impact of the training is that now majority of the tribal women have the smokeless chulha to cook their food. Health problem is also now decreasing after using smokeless chulha. Most of the respondent from the study areas said that they are very comfort with smokeless chulha. It was also noticed that tribal women have motivated and guided efficiently and desirable changes in the behavior of tribal women regarding health and nutrition aspect would be bringing improvement in the nutritional status of the tribal community.

A Study on Knowledge About Health and Nutrition of the Hill Korwas of Surguja District, Chhattisgarh: An Analytical Assessment

The present study was undertaken to assess the knowledge about health and nutrition of the Hill Korwa Tribe of Surguja district, Chhattisgarh. Hill Korwa is one of the PVTGs of Chhattisgarh. A total of 307 households (142 males and 165 females) of Surguja district were selected purposively and interviewed through the help of a pre-tested structured scheduled for the collection of data on health and nutrition education. The results shows that nutritional knowledge of the Hill Korwas was unsatisfactory and they need in-depth education on nutrition and intervention programmes for holistic development of tribal people of Chhattisgarh. The present study was states that nearly 1% of them have very good knowledge about basic ideas on health and nutrition and also highlights the knowledge about conservation of nutrients. Out of the results it was states that both males and females have good idea about it, but the knowledge about nutrition for vulnerable groups is poor among most of the males and females of Hill Korwas. One of the important issues is that good knowledge about health and hygiene is present only 8% among males and only 10.3% among females. However, it may be inferred after assessing overall scores that in all cases score of knowledge about the health and nutrition among the females is quite better than males of Hill Korwa tribes.

Identifying knowledge gaps about health and nutrition among rural pregnant mothers from 2 districts of Gujarat

Introduction: Encouraging healthy life style and dietary practices creates an impact not only on the child’s long-term health, but potentially the mother’s as well. Objectives: The study was planned to assess the Knowledge about various aspects of Maternal and Child health to plan appropriate counseling material. Materials and Methods: After informed consent, 100 pregnant women from 4 PHCS of Vadodara rural block and fifty from 1 PHC of Anklav block of Anand District were enrolled for the study. Information on knowledge regarding various aspects of health ad nutrition was elicited using pretested semi structure questionnaire. Findings: It was found that only half of the pregnant women knew about the concept of healthy diet in both the groups. Knowledge about the correct weight gain during pregnancy was better in mothers from Anand (74%) as compared to 47% in Mothers from Vadodara. Ninety percent of pregnant women in Anand group had correct knowledge of giving colostrum to new born as compared to 71% in Vadodara group. Knowledge about anemia and contraceptive methods was also not satisfactory in both the group of pregnant mothers. Conclusion: It can be concluded that knowledge regarding various aspects of health and nutrition requires frequent reinforcement using different strategies for sustainable development related to maternal and child health under various government programmes. A STUDY OF AWARENESS REGARDING HOUSEHOLD FOOD INSECURITY, FOOD PRACTICES AND HEALTH RISKS AMONG THE RURAL WOMEN OF ALLAHABAD DISTRICT

Background: The lives of rural women population are characterized by limited education, lack of knowledge pertaining to health aspects & also limited influence on decisions affecting their lives. Thus, awareness is one major factor for development of this group of population. Objective: 1) To study the awareness regarding Household Food Insecurity, Food Practices and Health Risks among the rural women of Allahabad District aged between 18-25 years. 2) To access the impact of Health and Nutritional Awareness Program on the awareness level of selected population. Material and Methods: The data were collected through semi-structured questionnaire among 600 rural women from the villages belongs to Jasra and Chaka block of Allahabad district. Pre test was carried out before the exposure of awareness documentary followed by post test to assess the impact of health and nutritional awareness programme. Results: The knowledge of rural women regarding health and nutrition aspects improved significantly after intervention. There was a considerable increase in the awareness levels of rural women with regard to knowledge of household food insecurity, food practices and various health risks among rural Indian women. Conclusion: The informative & educable intervention definitely has a positive effect on awareness levels which would eventually encourage expansion of knowledge & positive health habits.

Role of different communication aids on the development of underprivileged women for various health and nutritional practices

There is no doubt that communication aid plays a vital role in human life and human society. It helps an individual to communicate more effectively with the people around them. It not only helps to facilitate the process of sharing of information with others but also helps people to enhance their knowledge. Therefore, the importance of communication cannot be underestimated. This study was performed at the village of Masinadih in Samastipur district of Bihar state. The word "Underprivileged" refers to a "group of persons deprived of a number of fundamental rights". They are categorized under the Dalit and Mahadalit groups from the economic status and caste perspective. As per the need of the study, it was imperative to develop various communication aids on the selected messages related to health and nutritional practices.
