The importance of knowledge management systems for service industry companies operating locally and internationally

This article aims to analyze the role of knowledge management systems (KMS) in knowledge processes taking place in particular types of service industry companies operating in Poland and checks the importance of these tools for such firms' competitiveness in the current globalized world. This study distinguishes among companies that operate only locally (in Poland), and those that are on particular levels of internationalization process. This article is based on quantitative research in which 381 service industry firms were examined. The analysis show relatively large differences in the intensity of KMS usage among particular groups of service industry companies. These tools are especially intensively used by information technology (IT) and telecommunication as well as transport companies, and, in turn, less intensively by real estate as well as hotel and restaurant enterprises. Analysis has also shown that intensity of KMS usage among firms on any level of internationalization is considerably higher than among those operating locally. However, the most important finding is that intensive use of KMS in service companies is associated with being more competitive than those using KMS less intensely, and this difference is statistically significant.

The Most Important Features of Organizational Behaviour during a Knowledge Management System Building

Science Journal of Business and Management, 2014

Creating a knowledge management system (KMS) is a popular goal in corporate strategies. Medium, large and multinational companies know and use the expression 'knowledge management' (KM) almost without exception, but what they mean by it is varied. In this study, our intention was to shed light on how large and multinational companies use a KMS in their everyday practice, if at all. Our aim was to present an overview of the practical application of KM systems in Hungarian companies to show the best methods which yield favourable results and to gather the most troublesome obstacles arising in the course of building a KMS. Fourty-three companies were invited to participate in our research. The interview -based investigation followed the logic of the well-known Probst model. The findings of this survey offer important assistance in building a KMS, repairing an existing system or applying new methods and tools. This paper summarizes the results of our research.

Implementation of Systems for Knowledge Management in Republic of Macedonia

Knowledge management is a trend that is increasingly widespread in business circles and small companies as well as in the larger organizational structures. The concept of knowledge management is increasing and becomes the basis for quality and successful functionality of every organization. Organizations that use the potential of human resources as primary resource in dealing with the application of knowledge management have significantly improved the performance with reduced costs and increased quality of products or services. With the application of information technology in knowledge management a decentralization is achieved and therefore it facilitates the expansion of foreign markets. The subject of this research will be the systems for knowledge management, their relationship with the organizational learning, and the role of information technology in these systems. The purpose of this research is to recognize the importance and the benefits of managing knowledge and to perceive the role of information technology in knowledge management in enterprises in Republic of Macedonia, in order to achieve competitive advantage and long-term profitability.

The Role of Knowledge Management Technologies at a Polish University – a Case Study

Education and New Developments, 2019

The purpose of this paper was to present an analysis on challenges and barriers connected with the use of technical, or Information Technology (IT) tools of knowledge localization, creation, use, transfer, and codification at a Polish university. A synthetic review of the literature on knowledge management (KM) IT tools is presented. Results of surveys and in-depth interviews on the use of IT KM tools conducted among academic teachers, university IT specialists and university administrative staff from the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw are presented. Discussion and implications are carried out. The main conclusion of the study is that although teachers and researchers are aware of the usefulness of various IT KM tools and are willing to use them in their daily work, there is still room for improvement. Its seems that the main challenge for academic authorities is to conduct a thorough analysis of the real needs of academics concerning KM IT tools and to provide them with both the tools and the knowledge how to use them. A further, more comprehensive research into the matter will be worth conducting.
