Problem Solving Skills of Secondary School Students
A problem is a situation, in which a person tries to find a solution and does not exactly know how but still tries to solve it. One of the important elements of problem solving skills that individuals should have is to choose the appropriate strategy in the solution of the problems, which is important in terms of achieving success in solving problems. The research question of the study is " what are the levels of sixth and seventh grade students' problem solving skills? " The aim of this study was to investigate the problem solving and problem-solving strategies levels of secondary school students. The study was carried out through method with a total of 72 students from the two provinces in the Black Sea region of Turkey selected by random in the second term of the 2014-2015 academic year. In this qualitative research for the case study, content analysis was applied. The study group consists of 50 students in Samsun province and 22 students in Sinop province in the Blacksea region, 35 of the students are females, whereas 37 of them are male students. Turkish by the researchers, were used as the data collection tools. The problems applied were evaluated according to Polya's stage of problem solving. The problems were evaluated according to stages such as understanding the problem, choosing a strategy, applying the chosen strategy, and evaluating the solution. While examining students' problem solving papers, it was observed that they were more successful at solving problems, with which they came across before or are similar to the ones they had solved. It was observed that majority of the students had difficulty in solving non-routine problems. It is believed that this results from the fact that mostly routine problems are discussed and solved in the curricula.

This research aims to test the problem-solving abilities of students who were taught in different ways, through problemsolving learning and group discussion models. The research design used a quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design (NCGD). The research subjects were students of class XI at MA Badrul Arifin Situbondo, who were determined by purposive sampling and obtained two research classes. The experimental group learned with a problem-solving learning model, while the control group learned using a group discussion model. The results showed that those who studied with the problem-solving model had better problem-solving ability than those with the group discussion model.
Can I Solve the Problem? A Program Trail on Problem Solving Skill
In this study the effectiveness of a guidance program prepared to improve the problem solving skill, which is an important part of development in many areas, from academic life to daily life, is investigated. The research is a model of pre-test and post-test experiment with control group. The sample of this study is 20 students selected from 9. grade students of Erzincan Anatolian Vocational School for Trade and Commerce High School. Problem Solving Inventory which was adapted to Turkish by Şahin, Şahin and Heppner [37] was used in this study. To analyze the data, Non-Parametric Mann Whitney U and Non-Parametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used. According to the result of this study, it is found that significant difference in problem solving skills of students who attended the trainingprogram by the side of students not attending the program.

The study aimed to determine how teaching students problem-solving techniques affected their academic problemsolving performance. A quasi-experimental research design was used for this study. The BIA Lamplighter College of Education's level 400 students make up the population for the 2022-2023 academic year. However, all upper primary students were chosen for the study because Problem-solving was a subject taught in that grade. There were three groups of 126 upper primary students in total. Intact groups were used in the study. The problem-solving technique was used in conjunction with the whole class, cooperative, and think-pair-share teaching methods while teaching Groups 1, 2, and 3 (G1, G2, and G3). Scores from the pre-and post-tests were used to gather information. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks, Kruskal-Wallis Test, both Wilcoxon W and Mann-Whitney U. The study's conclusions suggest that teaching through Problem-solving may enhance students' problemsolving abilities. The study also discovered that both students taught using whole-class teaching strategies and students led using cooperative learning and think pair teaching strategies benefit from the techniques. After using the "teaching through" problem-solving approach, there was no discernible difference in performance between male and female students.

Problem solving ability is a part of a mental processes that’s includes problem shaping, problem finding and reaching towards a final goal. The present study is an attempt to explore the problem-solving ability between boys and girls studying in the higher secondary schools of Udhampur District of UT of Jammu & Kashmir. The method used for the study was descriptive method of research in which survey technique was employed. The sampling technique used for the study was random sampling method. The samples were selected from higher secondary schools of Udhampur. Data collection tool used was the problem-solving ability test, which explores the problem-solving skills among students. The collected data were analysed by using online software usablestats.com to find out the t-value and accordingly to derive valid conclusions. Findings of the study revealed that there were no significant differences in the problem solving ability between boys & girls studying in the higher secondary schools.

The research was caused by the poor of mathematical problem solving ability of students. This research aimed to compare of mathematical problem solving between students who learned through problem based learning and scientific approach. The method was an experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design involving two groups and random sampling. At the first and end of learning, the two classes are given a test. The population in this research were Madrasah Aliyah students in Cimahi, while the sample consisted of two randomly selected classes. This research aims to analyze students’ problem-solving ability in terms of sociomathematical norms. Data was collected using questionnaire sociomathematical norms, ability description tests, and interviews. The total subjects in the research were six students consisting of two students with high sociomathematical norms, two students with moderate sociomathematical norms, and two students with low sociomathematical norms. In this research, there are four indicators, namely understanding the problem, planning the problem, solving the problem, and re-examining the answer. The results showed that subjects who had high sociomathematical norms were able to solve questions on all indicators. Problem based learning to increase competence of critical thinking and problem solving

Critical thinking and problem solving is one of the competencies that must be possessed to meet the 21st Century. This competence is very important to be mastered by students, especially vocational high school students. One learning model that can hone 21st Century competencies is Problem Based Learning. This research was carried out on productive subjects of the Trial. This study aims to determine the improvement of critical thinking and problem solving competencies, and student learning outcomes on subject matter subjects. This study uses a classroom action research design with measurement of competence using observation and measurement of learning outcomes using a multiple choice written test. The results of the study showed an increase in thinking and problem solving critical competencies from the first cycle of 37.4% to the second cycle of 78.2%. While the average value of the first cycle is 70.4 and the second cycle is 86.4. Students who reach KKM in cycle I are 38% and in cycle II 82%.
Problem-Solving Capacity of Students: A Study of Solving Problems in Different Ways
Training towards the development of the capacity of learners has become an inevitable trend of world education. Vietnamese education also emphasizes the comprehensive development of the capacity and the quality of students. In mathematics teaching, there are some notable capacities such as problem-solving capacity, cooperation capacity, capacity for using mathematical language, computing capacity and so on. In particular, the problem-solving capacity is very important to students because it helps them to solve problems not only in mathematics but also in practice. In this paper, we want to investigate the problem-solving capacity of students in primary schools through a problem required to solve in different ways. The results of the study showed that students had enough the problem-solving capacity to find out various solutions to the given problem.

Problem based learning that involve student to solve authentic problem need to be applied for understanding its role in training students’ problem solving ability. This research aimed to (1) describe the implementation of problem based learning, (2) describe mastery of student’s problem solving ability who are taught problem based learning and (3) describe student’s responses about problem based learning. This research was a preexperimental using one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample which selected using purposive sampling were X IPA 6 of MAN Sidoarjo as a experiment class. Data was collected by observation, test and questionnaire. Data were analyzed based on learning implementation, the mastery level of student’s problem solving ability, and student responses.
