In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the recent technological innovations that have contributed to the success of the educational process and demonstrated a successful emergency strategy during the pandemic of Covid-19. In education, AI has begun producing new teaching and learning solutions that are now undergoing testing in different contexts. This working paper, written for education policymakers, anticipates the extent to which AI affects the education sector, the preparation of teachers at the faculties of Education and to allow for informed and appropriate policy responses for sustainable development in the light of 2030 vision. First, this paper includes introduction about AI and how AI can be used to enhance the quality of teaching and learning process. Next, the paper sheds light on the preparation of teachers at the Faculties ofEducation for the existence of AI in all aspects of human activity. In addition, the paper addresses the challenges and opportunities of AI in Preparing Teachers at Faculties of Education to achieve sustainable development in the light of 2030 vision. Then, this paper proposed vision to activate using the AI techniques in developing teacher preparation programs at Faculties of Education. Finally, this paper introduces conclusions and recommendations about applying AI in preparing teachers programs at the Faculties of Education. This work explores the dual nature of artificial intelligence using case studies from two major fields. It also poses problems like unequal access, data privacy issues, and a dependence on technological advancements. Artificial intelligence's specific insights, useful resource management, and scalability are useful to the environmental industry. Nonetheless, troubles with statistical reliability, implementation, and intake of power exist. This paper emphasizes strategies in which artificial intelligence is a dual-edged sword with wonderful and terrible qualities that have a significant influence. This article analyses and reflects on the ethical aspects of using artificial intelligence (AI) systems in educational contexts. On the one hand, the impact of AI in the field of education is addressed from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals (specifically, SDG4) of the UNESCO 2030 Agenda, describing the opportunities for its use by teachers and students. On the other hand, there is an emphasis on the uncertainties caused by the fears of some who think, for example, that AI robots will replace human teachers. The methodology used is based on a documentary review, supported by reports and studies conducted by researchers as well as institutions and organizations committed to the development of AI and its capacity for action in the educational field, and the ethical questions that experts and organizations around the world are raising. The results seek to influence and deepen the ethical implications that AI can have in the educational field. Finally, some critical questions about the ethics and challenges of AI in education are proposed, concluding with the need to add proposals with new research and political actions which could lead to the creation of an ethical observatory of AI for education.
THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR THE PROGRESS TOWARD THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS – AI AS AN ENABLER OR AN INHIBITOR?, 2021
Artificial intelligence (AI) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have lately been among the most debated issues and they are now attracting even more attention in view of a post-pandemic recovery phase. The alignment of sustainable and technological development is currently a main challenge and policy objective. The aim of this master’s thesis is to explore the role that AI might play for the progress toward the SDGs. After reviewing the available literature, which is mainly qualitative, this thesis provides an early attempt to quantitatively estimate the correlation between AI development and deployment and the progress toward the SDGs, as measured by the Stanford HAI AI Index and Bertelsmann Index. The estimation is done through a linear mixed-effects model, based on panel data for 25 countries from 2017 to 2019. The correlation is not significant at the aggregate level for all 17 goals combined, but it becomes significant for some individual goals. With the complete database AI displays a significant positive correlation with Goal 3 on “Good Health and Well-being” and a significant negative correlation with Goal 14 on “Life Below Water”. As some outliers are removed, thus reducing the number of countries, the correlation between AI and the sustainable development becomes positive significant for Goals 3, 4, 15 and 16 corresponding respectively to: “Good Health and Well-being”, “Quality Education”, “Life on Land”, “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” and negative significant only for Goal 17, namely “Partnership for the Goals”. Despite the few disposable data and the still early stage of development and country adoption of AI, the results highlight that there might be some interesting relationships between AI and the sustainable development and are coherent with the literature predicting both positive and negative effects of AI. Artificial intelligence seems to be a double-edged sword, which needs to be steered in the right direction in order to enhance its potential and mitigate its risks. Therefore, it is of uttermost importance for public policy to keep pace with AI developments and be able to leverage its benefits as well as effectively regulate it.

Artificial intelligence harbors significant, unrealized promise for educational reformers, adding benefit to low-resource settings, particularly in the Least Developed Nations where access to quality learning remains most acute. The purpose of the introduction is to summarize how AI can reduce the educational gap and increase the effectiveness of education in poor resource environments. This paper, in a critical way, reviews the existing literature on the integration of AI in the education systems of developing countries concerning the benefits and challenges. This is achieved by reviewing a cross-section of literature from MDPI, Taylor & Francis, Springer, Wiley Online Library, Science Direct, and IEEE Xplore databases. Much emphasis within the selection criteria is given to those studies that had either empirically or theoretically demonstrated the influence of AI on educational practices within developing countries. Key findings: AI has the potential to greatly improve learning outcomes; it somewhat increases access to education but bodes well for the personalization agenda. These, however, will be surmounted upon adoption if it is to be effective: there exist huge challenges such as limited access to the internet, infrastructural deficit, and socio-cultural barriers. This study can, therefore, give inference to the fact that AI can change education and further enhance new equity in developing countries if there are corresponding proper policy interventions, building the capacity of teachers, and involvement of the community. More research is required to inform the long-term implications of AI and new uses being developed for AI applications in many diverse educational contexts, on which to base strategies for more equitable and more inclusive global education.
