Paleoseismic assessment of the main strand of the Boconó fault in its central section, at Mesa del Caballo, Mérida Andes, Venezuela (original) (raw)
This study investigates the main strand of the Boconó fault at Mesa del Caballo in the Mérida Andes, Venezuela, through trench excavations aimed at understanding its recent seismic history. Findings reveal unique paleoseismic features including signs of multiple paleo-earthquakes, liquefaction phenomena, and significant Riedel shear structures. The results contribute to the broader understanding of the fault's behavior, indicating active tectonic processes and the potential for future seismic activity.
