Assessment of power quality terms on energy distribution systems: a case study of Istanbul (original) (raw)

A case study of power quality enhancement in an electrical distribution system

1997

Power Quality in the electric supply industry is a ment emerging issue bcreasingly becoming a universal concem to electrical distribution utilities. Its negative impact affects electric distribution utilities, end-user equipment rnanufacturen. and the power consumer. Power Quality. like quality in other goods and services is measurable and identifiable but it is difficult to quanti@. There is no single accepted standard of power quality level defined in the electrical distribution inûustry. However. it is generally agreed that the ultimate measure of power quality is determined by the performance of the end-usen equipment when connected to the system. If the electric power supplying the equiprnent is inadequate, then quality is lacking and should be enhanced. This project work involves the investigation of power quality issues facing electric distribution utilitses today. It contains research from various ceferences to define power quality and su~narize its effect on electric distri...

Power Quality Evaluation of Electrical Distribution Networks

2014

Researches and concerns in power quality gained significant momentum in the field of power electronics systems over the last two decades globally. This sudden increase in the number of concerns over power quality problems is a result of the huge increase in the use of non-linear loads. In this paper, power quality evaluation of some distribution networks at Misurata - Libya has been done using a power quality and energy analyzer (Fluke 437 Series II). The results of this evaluation are used to minimize the problems of power quality. The analysis shows the main power quality problems that exist and the level of awareness of power quality issues with the aim of generating a start point which can be used as guidelines for researchers and end users in the field of power systems.

Electric Power Quality through Analysis and Experiment

Energies

The quality of electrical energy is of particular importance for power engineering. This study presents an analysis of articles made in the Special Issue “Analysis and Experiments for Electric Power Quality”. As techniques and technology advance, electrical consumers and equipment become more sensitive to disturbances in the electrical network (in particular, low- and medium-voltage). It can lead to costly outages and lost production, which affect productivity. The analyzed articles present interesting technical studies made on industrial and nonindustrial consumers, of low- and medium-voltage, from the point of view of the quality of electricity. Voltage and current harmonics, voltage sags and swells, interruptions, unbalance, and low power factor will lead to higher electricity bills, overloading, and rapid aging of electrical networks and electric equipment. The power quality depends not only on the supplier but also on all consumers connected to the same power network; some can ...

Voltage Characteristics: An Overlooked Contributor to Power Quality Assessment

This report presents the power Quality Assessment of Electrical faculty building of Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland. From a regulatory viewpoint, the European Union has been a front-runner in developing and implementing quality of supply standards through its application of European Standard EN 50160. Some Countries have used EN 50160 as the basic standard for their national quality of supply regulations. But the statistical models of Standard allow eight hours per week of unregulated power quality and utilities compliance (or non-compliance) is assessed regardless of the severity of any events. This report will outline and execrate the state of EN 50160 toady; its benefits and possible areas of improvement, including those suggested by European utility regulators themselves. The Standard Will be compared to national quality of supply standards from countries around the world to identify best practices and contrast the differences. In conclusion, a framework for quality of supply regulation will be proposed that will ensure that compliant utilities are providing a level of service that meets expectations of their customers.

Power quality analysis and performance evaluation of industrial distribution system

2020

Quality of the supply plays very important role in industrial power distribution system. The increased use of powers converters, VFD's, switching operations and nonlinear loads in industry causes the distortion in the power system current and voltage waveforms. This distortion in waveforms (harmonics) is considered to be most significant reason for power quality problems. This paper discuss about analysis of power quality parameters in industrial power distribution system used to minimize the power quality problems.

Electrical power systems quality

Here the research is about the power system engineering .How the power demand is being utelised by the public. So at the peak utilization of the power the elctricity bill increses after the fixed price ...And also the customer is penalised. So the all the techniques are in this paper to know thw power demand and the regulations.

Power Quality Assessment and Analysis for Low Voltage Distribution Networks

Due to high application of non-linear loads and energy-saving devices at low voltage networks, power quality (PQ) assessment and investigation becomes an important requirement for electrical systems. Such a step is required to reveal the current situation of power quality, identify the margin from the unsafe boundary and take necessary remedial actions. The purpose of this paper is to investigate and assess the current situation of power quality of a low voltage distribution system within the Jordanian electrical system. The study was conducted for aggregated commercial and residential facilities. Several power quality parameters are monitored: Voltage distortion, current distortion, and power factor. Detailed measurement results and analysis are presented and explained. Among different power quality disturbances, load unbalance and distorted waveform of the current are observed. The results show that current unbalance reaches as high as 56% of the phase current. High total harmonic distortion (THD) level in the current is also observed. Its maximum value reaches 30.36%, while the Total Current Demand Distortion (TDD) level reaches as high as 10%.
