Museum Theatre: Interpretation and Experience
This dissertation explores the importance of museum theatre through theory and practice. The desk-based research relies on the English literature found in the University of Leicester's library, while the case studies were carried out in England and in Hungary. The first part of this paper investigates the nature and the theoretical background of museum theatre, and its effect in different disciplines, such as living history, live interpretation or re-enactment. This is important as it sets the definition for these techniques, shows how to interpret the past, and gives a basic comparison of theory and practice. The usage of objects in an exhibition space should be communicative, as this is a good way of strengthening alternative visiting experience, and museum theatre is one such method. The authenticity of the locales and the objects can be the cornerstone of visits to both open-air sites and museums; therefore museum theatre should consider its importance. In the second part of the dissertation, two case studies were carried out, as a result of an open-air site visit in England and three interviews in Hungary. The purpose of this field research was to demonstrate the need of museum theatre, and to give an insight on how they should adapt the theory. My argument suggests that museum theatre would be the perfect strategy to reach visitors and expand the 'museum experience' to the nonmuseum going public. Since all the case studies show different methods for interpretation of museum theatre and its disciplines, this is not only a good opportunity to compare their practices, but also the attitude of the two countries. This dissertation concludes that museum theatre has a very positive effect on visitors' experiences and, it should be more widespread in educational practice.
"To act or not to act?" The use of drama in museum live interpretation programmes

The communicative function of the museum has an important role in the contemporary museum context. Over last decades new interpretive and learning tools have been introduced to museums aiming at enhance the visitor experience. This dissertation investigates the introduction of live interpretation programmes in museums as a medium of interpretation of museum exhibits and topics, giving particular attention to the use of drama: its approaches, techniques, potentials and pitfalls. An analysis of drama approaches and management aspects of live performances is developed based on observations and interviews carried out in five museums in Britain, namely: the Science Museum, London; the Museum of the Moving Image, also in London; the National Museum of Photograph, Film and Television in Bradford; Colchester Castle, in Colchester; and Wigan Pier Heritage Centre, in Wigan. The dissertation suggests a model for the use of drama in museums, indicating some basic factors considered to be of importance for the success of the activity in the museum environment. The practicalities of the medium are discussed. The research concludes that drama can be used effectively to interpret museum exhibits and meet the museum interpretive and educational goals.

The present research paper explores the contribution of the Inquiry Drama Method to meaningmaking in a museum environment. It presents and assesses an educational program realized in the Historical Museum of Alexandroupolis. The article comprises a theoretical and an empirical section. The first part refers to the museum as a context of development and learning, in Inquiry Drama Method, and the functional connection between them. In the second part, a theatrepedagogy intervention is presented through Inquiry Drama Method and Action Research methodology in a museum environment. The participants are university students in the 'Drama and Group Empowerment and Resilience' course of the Department of Primary Education at the Democritus University of Thrace. This educational research intervention was completed in three circles of four main stages each (plan, action, observe, reflect), drawing on museum exhibits regarding photos of refugees in Thrace as well as theatrical texts, storytelling, and personal testimonies from Armenian refugees. Results show that the participants constructed personal and social meaning through Inquiry Drama Method and drama techniques on sociopolitical issues, regarding what it means to be a refugee in the old and contemporary times.

In this study, it was aimed to determine social studies candidates how to practice about make of use museums as a learning environment. It was tried to discuss a case, for this purpose ıt was used case study. The study group consisted of 19 students (12 females, 7 males) studying social studies at a public university. Participants were given museum training lasting 7 weeks and the process started with the visit of the Antalya Archeology Museum. In this study, Museum Evaluation Forms were used as data collection tools. These forms were used at two-stage. The first stage was the Pre-Museum Evaluation Form and the second stage was the Activity Evaluation Forms. Content analysis technique was used in data analysis, and the forms were examined separately and themes and categories were created. Museum pedagogy in education: educatinal, historical, and pedagogical aspects

At the present stage of civilizational development, characterized by numerous transformations in the historical-political, socio-economic, cultural, scientific, and educational spheres of social progress, the importance of using the results of pedagogical innovation in continuing education is emphasized. The study's aim is to consider the experience of using museum pedagogy based on education and analyzes this phenomenon in terms of historical and pedagogical aspects. To meet the objective of the study, the descriptive method is utilized. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the mission of museums is to increase the level of knowledge and moral and spiritual education. The authors state that the priority approach of the state cultural, scientific, and educational policy should be the effective use of museum activities for the public good. Education requires the active introduction of museum pedagogy to improve the educational process.
Theatricalization in the Cultural History Museum

The article examines theatricalization and visitor participation as curatorial strategies in new museological practices. It asks: How are theatrical and participatory elements put into use and what is their effect on the visitor experience in terms of meaning-making. Based on a first-person phenomenological description, the analysis centres on the exhibition An Army of Concrete in The Tirpitz Museum on the west coast of Denmark. Looking at the processes of theatricality in the exhibition, it is argued that meaning-making ultimately relies on visitor participation and is produced self-reflexively in the engagement with the immersive environments, theaudio-narratives and the displayed objects.
Staging narratives in the museum: the guided visit and museum education

The guided tour, a practice dating from ancient times, remains even today one of the most important ways of communicating in museums. In terms of training, the persons that practice this activity are not the same in all countries or in all museums. In the present work, the requirements of a guided visit in a contemporary museum education context are analysed, while a set of guidelines focusing on two distinct phases of work i.e. the preparation and the performance, is proposed. Finally, several criteria of evaluation of such an activity are discussed.

The number of Egyptian museum visitors are 80% travelers for culture tourism to explore, learn, and enjoy art and heritage of the different cultures such as the ancient Egyptian history, GrecoRoman, Coptic and Islamic cultures where the researchers can find so many values for tangible and intangible values. Moreover, the Egyptian museums are full of knowledge, which are target for so many researchers from all over the world. The idea of the research came after several international educational institution such as Kazakhstan and Netherlands asked to guide their students for culture tours as they teach them Islamic and Arabic language but miss a about practice and culture of the country. Therefore, the museum can be very powerful engine of economic development through educational tourism as full package of services.
The Nature and the Characteristics of Museum Theater: A quality research among Greek specialists

Purpose -The aim of the research is to investigate the nature and characteristics of museum theater in Greece, as they have been formulated in the opinions of experts related to the specific topic. Design / methodology / approach -To investigate the topic, qualitative research is utilized which is structured in five thematic axes. The data were collected by the method of structured interview which included five main questions (axes) and one or two clarifying questions for each of the main ones. Findings -The essential relationship between museum and theater is highlighted, as well as the importance of museum theater in museum narrative and interpretation of exhibits. Originality / value-The paper presents the views of scientists who have dealt with the subject or approach it theoretically from an educational point of view.
