Scientific societies and exploration of the territory of the Russian empire
IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019
In the nineteenth century scientific societies being nongovernmental voluntary associations of professional as well as amateur scientists were the leading institutions of Russian science. However, their role in the scientific, social, and cultural life of the country is essentially underestimated. This especially refers to the societies seated outside Petersburg. The present paper discusses the key characteristics that facilitated adaptation of the societies to the cultural realities of the nineteenth century Russia and fostered their research and educational activity. Special focus is given to the contribution of the societies to the exploration of the territory of the country.

Scientific Societies in the Soviet Science System during the 1920s
HISTORIA SCIENTIARUM : INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE SOCIETY OF JAPAN. , 2019
The article is devoted to the relations between Soviet power and scientific societies in the 1920s. The study is based on a variety of sources, primarily archival materials. It focuses on how scientific societies were treated by the new regime according to the Bolsheviks vision of Soviet science, how scientific societies interacted with the authorities and other scientific institutions. In general, the relationship between societies and the authorities in 19171932 may be described as contradictory. On the one hand, the authorities, seeking to preserve the cadres and country scientific potential considered societies activities as useful for the science development and supported them. On the other hand, the Bolsheviks wanted societies to transform into mass organizations consisting of a large number of workers and peasants as their members fully controlled by the authorities. Throughout the 1920s governmental control influenced by the political changes taking place in Soviet Russia grew quickly and at the turn of the 1920s1930s it became total, societies lost their independence. Scientific societies were pushed from science to public sphere as a result of the Great Break and ceased to play an important role in the academic community.
Soviet Power and Natural Scientific Societies in the 1920s: Forms and Phases of the Interaction
Studies in the History of Biology, 2021
Scientific societies have traditionally played a very important role in the academic community. They contributed to the formation of civil society in Russia, determined the self-identification of young scientists and scholars, and were also particularly important as a platform for the presentation of new scientific information. The aim of this article is to discuss the place and role of natural scientific societies in the system of science organizations and their relations with Soviet power in the 1920s. The study is based on a variety of sources, primarily archival materials of natural scientific societies and governmental bodies that are stored in the State Archive of the Russian Federation, St. Petersburg Branch of the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Central State Archive of St. Petersburg, etc. The article focuses on the legislative and regulatory framework for relations between Soviet power and natural scientific societies, the forms of control over their activities, and governmental support for their work. In general, the relationship between the Soviet authorities and natural scientific societies in the 1920s can be described as contradictory. On the one hand, the regime considered the work of natural scientific societies useful and supported it. In the system of scientific societies, natural scientific organizations occupied leading positions. The new regime intended to utilize the skills of natural scientists. On the other hand, the state's control over their functioning was tightening throughout the 1920s. In the late 1920s/early 1930s, the political changes in the country resulted in total control over scientific and public spheres.
The influence of Western culture on the Central Asian States’ and Kazakhstan’s science
2024
The relevance of the study is due to the fact that the Central Asia's culture is of great interest for modern sociological science as an object of study of intercultural interaction and as a multifaceted, complex, controversial, and dynamic phenomenon. The topic of the influence of Western culture and philosophy on the science of more Eastern regions, according to the authors, has been rather neglected. The purpose of the paper is to study the influence of Western culture on the Central Asian states and Kazakhstan's science, including philosophical, historical and cultural direction. The comparative approach was used to study materials on the development of Western science and their distribution in the foreign countries' cultures, as well as the analysis of these materials. As a result, a series of statements was deduced that confirms the influence of Western science on Kazakhstan's and Central Asia's countries' science. It was concluded that democratic ideas, educational sentiments and revolutionary movements, in Russia, had a significant impact on Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

"Al-Farabi" journal of socio-humanitarian studies, 2024
This article provides an overview of the scientific heritage of scientists of the Kazakh land, stored in the Suleymaniye Library. The reason for choosing Suleymaniye Library is that this library contains a great heritage of Kazakh scholars among the libraries of Turkey. The article highlights the features of materials found in the library collections. Thus, the following questions will be answered: At what time and in what places were the works of Kazakh scientists widely disseminated, whose works are preserved in the Suleymaniye Library? In addition to the authors who wrote the works, how great is the merit of the мustansihs from the Kazakh steppe? The topic of studying the biography and scientific heritage of scientists of the Kazakh land has been intensively pursued since independence. If previous studies were based on literary materials, then the peculiarity of this research work is to monitor the dynamics of global recognition of the heritage of Kazakh scientists based on bibliographic data, identifying new names of authors and works, and correcting erroneous information. The results of the study help to take a critical look at the acquired information, easily find copies of works, and determine the correctness of conflicting information about the author or work.
