An integrated model for supply chain management components, supply chain performance and organizational performance: purification and validation of a measurement instrument

Journal of Contemporary Management Research , 2013

It is widely argued that competition is no longer between organizations, but among supply chains. Effective supply chain management (SCM) has become a potentially way of securing competitive advantage, improving supply chain performance and organizational performance. This research conceptualizes, develops, and validates three dimensions of SCM components (Supply chain concerns, supply chain competence and supply chain practices), supply chain performance and organizational performance. Data for the study were collected from 255 manufacturing industries and measurement scales were tested and validated using structural equation modeling (SEM). It is hoped that this research study will provide a compo site model to assess the causal linkage among the critical components of supply chain and its impact on supply chain performance and organizational performance.

Causal linkages between supply chain management practices and performance

Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, 2015

Purpose – Today, supply chain design and management constitute a major source of competitive advantage for firms. The purpose of this paper is to empirically investigate, from a balanced scorecard strategy map (BSSM) perspective, the types of linkages through which supply chain management practices (SCMPs) impact on financial and non-financial performance, and consequently lead to the achievement of the firm’s strategic objectives. Design/methodology/approach – This study is carried out in two stages. First, based on the survey data collected from 450 French industrial firms (with a return rate of 20.2 per cent), structural equation modelling (SEM) is used to test eight hypotheses that are formulated through the discussion of previous theoretical and empirical findings in extant literature. Then, based on the framework of the BSSM, the SEM results are used to discuss the linkages between SCMPs and firm performance. Findings – After confirming some of the relationships already observ...

The association between organizational performance and supply chain management practices

Uncertain Supply Chain Management

Firms' activities to govern their supply chains are defined as supply chain management practices. This research explores a model that describes the association between organizational performance and supply chain management practices. Based on existing research, a theoretical framework for the investigation was established. A standardized questionnaire was developed to gather data for the research, which was completed by 396 supply chain professionals from Saudi Arabian food companies. Partial least square (PLS)–structured equation modeling was used to examine the model and hypotheses. Four independent variables were chosen to scrutinize the impact of supply chain management strategies on organizational performance: customer relationship, strategic supplier partnership, level of information sharing, and postponement. According to the research, customer relationships, strategic supplier partnerships, and information sharing all have a major impact on organizational performance. On...

The Relationship Between Supply Chain Management and Organization Performance: A Case Study

Journal of Security and Sustainability Issues, 2020

The objective of the study is to examine the mediating impact of competitive advantage on the relationship of supply chain management (SCM) practices and firm performance of the pharmaceutical industry of Thailand. For this purpose, the questionnaires were distributed among the 1400 supply chain manager which yield a 40% response rate. Based on SEM analysis, it is found that customer relationship (CR), time to market (TM), postponement (POS) have a significant association with the firm performance. While, supplier partnership (SP), information quality (IQ), information sharing (IS) have an insignificant association with the firm performance. On the other hand, it is found POS, CR, IQ, IS, SP have also a significant association with the competitive advantage, whereas, POS is not having a significant association with the competitive advantage. In addition, the mediating effect shows that competitive advantage has a partial mediating among all of the SCM practices and firm performance of the pharmaceutical industry of Thailand. These findings show that competitive advantage is considered to be a significant mediator in the relationship of relationship of SCM practices and firm performance of the pharmaceutical industry of Thailand. The current added a body of literature in the form of empirical findings which could become an area of interest for the future research. The research is also beneficial for the supply chain managers to know about the importance of SCM practices to improve the firm performance through the competitive advantage. The research limitations and future directions are also discussed at the end of the study.

A Review of Structural Relationship Between Supply Chain Management and Organizational Performance in Malaysian Automotive Industry. Universal Journal of Industrial and Business Management, 2(1), 1-5.

Nowadays, in international business dynamic, supply chain management has become a critical strategic initiative in a global competitive environment. In consequence of increased competition in both domestic and international market, firm can no longer effectively compete in isolation of the suppliers and other entities in the supply chain. Supply Chain Management (SCM) practices have mostly been analyzed in manufacturing business. The SCM has been recognized as a strategy that could lead companies to gain competitive advantage, other than to achieve greater business performance. The SCM seeks to enhance competitive performance by closely integrating internal functions within a company and effectively linking them with external operations of suppliers, customers, and other channel members. There are several elements that can be selected to support SCM practices and organizational performance in the automotive industries. The purpose of this study is to propose a structural relationship of supply chain management practices and organizational performance model for Malaysian automotive industries. Since this study is a concept paper, most of the previous study taken as a basic guided for this research. Therefore, the conceptual model using Structural Equation Model (SEM) has been proposed and research hypothesis are also being developed. The paper culminates with suggested future research.

Determinants of Supply Chain Performance: A Strategic Point of View

With the application of supply chain strategy, retailers can make a wise decision to increase supply chain performance. This study is one of the novelties in supply chain management research because it aimed at empirically analyzing the influence of supply chain strategies as the determinants of retail supply chain performance. For the purpose of the study, data were collected with a structured questionnaire from 115 mangers of some selected retail chain stores in Bangladesh. Collected data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares method with smart PLS software version 2.0M3. The present study has shown some meaningful findings regarding the determinants of retail supply chain performance. Firstly, it is found in the study that agile supply chain strategy is the most pivotal factor influencing retail supply chain performance. The lean strategy was also found to be a contributor to the retail supply chain performance while hybrid strategy was found to exhort very weak influence in increasing the performance of retail supply chain. The findings of this study can benefit the supply chain managers involved in retailing. From this study retail managers can know which strategy they should adopt to bring forth substantial advantage for the companies by maintaining their supply chain in a better way.

Structural Equation Model on Supply Chain Performance of the Manufacturing Sector: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed Methods Study

Journal of economics, finance and management studies, 2023

Supply Chain Performance (SCP) is affected by factors including supply chain structure, market conditions, among others. SCP will define profitability, growth, and sustainability, but is varied in level among different industries. The primary purpose of this explanatory sequential mixed-methods study was to determine the best fit model of Supply Chain Performance (SCP) in the manufacturing sector of Region XI in the Philippines. The survey was administered to 332 manufacturing companies across the region employing stratified random sampling. After analyzing the quantitative data through structural equation modeling, us17 interviewees selected from the 332 respondents, were subjected to an in-depth interview, and focus group discussion for validation of the results. The data obtained from the interview were analyzed through thematic analysis. The quantitative results revealed that out of the five exogenous variables tested for the best fit model on SCP, only three came out as having direct influence, to wit: buyer-supplier relationship (BSR), integrated information system (IIS) as the best predictor, and logistics performance (LP). The modest direct influence of LP on SCP was strengthened with its indirect influence through IIS. Thematic analysis of the qualitative data unveiled the essential themes generally confirming the best fit model and its particulars. Connecting-merging-confirmation surfaced as the nature of data integration.
