Abstract
Aiming to comprehend the continuities and changes in food choices and the role of Polish food as a part of the food culture of each generation, four subjects were interviewed, representing three generations of a family that migrated from Poland to Brazil. Narratives were analysed using Content Analysis and the Food Choice Trajectory Model as a framework. For the three generations, it is during family celebrations that the Polish traditions and cuisine have been recovered and rediscovered and when “Polishness” has revealed itself the strongest. However, the memory of recipes has been lost over time and the preparation methods currently in use have been adapted. The assimilation process observed in the adoption of the most typical Brazilian staple food does not overshadow the complexity of multiple identities within each individual nor of the family as a whole.
