Forme di dipendenza nelle società barbariche dell'Occidente tardoantico: incidenza economica e strutture social (original) (raw)

The purpose of this reflection is to examine the role attributed in modern criticism to Roman stoicism about the supposed or real changes in the relationship of the free to slavery and slaves. By following the different stages of the formation of Roman Stoicism, one can actually grasp concrete legal and moral developments in the taking into account of slavery as a social rather than a natural fact. From this postulate will result pragmatic approaches which, while leading to a humanization of the slaves, do not condemn the institution of slavery itself.
