Editorial: Physical activity, self-regulation, and executive control across the lifespan (original) (raw)
This editorial discusses the reciprocal relationship between physical activity and executive control across the lifespan, supported by various empirical studies and theoretical perspectives. It highlights the role of executive functioning in maintaining long-term physical activity participation, as well as the neurophysiological mechanisms underpinning this relationship. Future research directions emphasize the need to explore exercise's effects on brain health in medical populations and to further understand the connections between brain mechanisms and exercise behavior.
