How People in Zala County See Security in Tourism

DETUROPE - The Central European Journal of Tourism and Regional Development, 2019

Events all around the world bring new challenges not only to tourists and tourism professionals, but also to law enforcement agencies. Today's new law enforcement challenges include, besides general police tasks, the elimination of terrorist threats in tourist destinations and at special events. Professional difficulties involve the lack of local knowledge of the stationed personnel, the estimated time of arrival at the venue, and the limitations of observation and communication in large crowds. The study, among other things, seeks to find out how recent events have influenced the leisure habits in tourist destinations and event venues, furthermore, whether news in the media generate a sense of security or mistrust in humans. If we go beyond the classical sense of security that is the freedom from unlawful acts, namely, from terrorist attacks, we should also mention many elements of technical security. The broad sense of security includes safety of the environment (built and natural), consumption and health. However, we can take a different view. Not only the tourists' safety needs to be emphasized and focused on, but safe tourism is also important for the residents in the tourist destination. In addition, there is an emerging trend that prefers nature and tranquility to busy cities and resorts bustling with tourists. The research seeks to find out what factors affect the employees in Western Hungary and the consumer behavior in tourism in Zala County, along with the cultural and social characteristics and the psychological needs (e.g.: motivation, perception, attitudes). How consumers see the security of tourism and what are the aspects that may be important when choosing a holiday destination. What kind of responses the agencies in tourism sector have had for security issues in recent years, which can prevent problems and increase the sense of security for those who want to relax.

Safe-Tourism In Crisis Situations, Appreciations In Romania'S Case

Revista de turism/ …, 2009

Economic crisis -is an intensively mediated concept during the past years- it issues with the situation when the business medium confronts with the perspective of a fundamental change, usually sudden and unexpected, that threatens to significantly disturb the present socio-economic perceptions and the daily practice. Even if the emergent markets are the most vulnerable in crisis, they still adapt the easiest to the actual context, counting on economic flexible domains as the tourism industry or IT. The persistence of global economic crisis, but especially the touristy market fragility make it impossible to estimate the evolution of hospitality industry for the next two years. Crisis effects seem to be inevitable in the context where great tourism actors talk about consequences similar to the ones following the terrorists attacks in SUA, in September 2001. It is very important to understand the stress factors that prevent the optimum development of tourism discouraging the touristy flow towards once well-known destinations. Romania is not a touristy destination with a worldwide notoriety, not even European, but some issues like the localization outside those more and more unsafe touristy areas, the peacefulness regarding the terrorism implications and the special natural and anthropic potential, all these, create the necessary premises for promoting a specific tourism, able to induce tourists the idea of security. Among the difficulties that Romania confronts itself with, we mention: unfavourable international image, precarious touristy infrastructure estate and seldom application of quality standards. If these deficiencies are assumed and controlled in the immediate future, then the interest for Romanian tourism will continuously increase and safe tourism could become a tourism relaunching factor after the wrong start for the rural tourism, business tourism or balnear tourism.

Security as the Key Factor in Contemporary Tourism: Specificities Identified through the Analysis of Responders' Attitudes

23rd International Scientific Conference on Economic and Social Development Proceedings, 2017

The paper represents a product of mentor-graduate student cooperation, developed at the graduate study of Business Economics, major Tourism. Following the latest threatening events and having in mind those yet to come, we can conclude that no country can benefit from the tourism industry if at the same time does not develop its security system as an integral part of the standard tourist offer. Analyzing the trends in contemporary tourism, the safety and security issues became the decisive factors for the choice of a certain destination. Consequently, countries must not perceive security systems and measures as an unnecessary expense but as an essential element in organizing their tourist services. All hotels and respectable tourist agencies should have a crisis management, with detailed, thoroughly elaborated procedures for emergency situations. Tourists should be timely informed about the potential dangers and risks and the measures taken to prevent them, as well as on procedures for emergency situations. Additionally, it would be good to have mobile applications that would enable tourists to make direct emergency calls with instructions on behavior in crisis situations. It is also essential to implement and put into effect sophisticated security measures such as using surveillance cameras, controlling access to buildings, information exchange with colleagues and neighbors, reporting the suspicious occurrences to the security services, and training staff for crisis management. Having in mind everything stated above, the security issue is definitely one of the crucial factors in the development of tourism in a certain country.

Addressing the Security Concerns of Locals and Visitors for the Sustainable Development of Tourist Destinations

Sustainability, 2016

Tourism has long been recognized as a crime generator. This poses a dilemma in the sustainable development context: is continued tourist expansion sustainable if it generates increased law and order problems? Using the example of Bras , ov, Romania, this article considers the ways in which criminal justice agencies and the tourism sector have operated in partnership to ensure the security of both local residents and visitors. We argue that the success of the initiative depends on multi-agency working at the local level, but that the involvement of local residents is also crucial. This commitment may be tested as the nature of tourism changes. The research consists of an analysis of primary and secondary data. The results revealed that among the main security issues mentioned by tourists are not only robberies and other social and situational features that contributed to tourists feeling anxious or unsafe, but also the need to have access to good health services and easy access to money changing facilities, information centers, etc. Some improvements are suggested for the local Sustainable Development Strategy of Bras , ov.

Safety and Security in Tourism. Case Study: Romania

For many countries, tourism is considered as having a great economic importance, with quite a large share in the country’s GDP. Hence, the number of foreign tourists is highly important. But worldwide, the threats and dangers are more frequent, and consequently tourists are becoming more aware of the necessity of a safe destination. Foreign tourists are educated in the spirit of touristic safety, and when choosing a particular destination, this aspect is of utmost importance. The image of the country or any touristic destination depends on the quality of the touristic products, which include not only the natural and cultural patrimony or the economic environment, but also the social and political climate, state order and citizens’ safety. A country with a good image for safe tourism can use it as a competitive advantage and attract different segments of the international tourism market. The paper presents some of the safety issues in tourism, focusing on the main aspects of tourism safety in Romania, based on the travel and tourism competitiveness index, with special focus on the third pillar – Safety and Security and the results of an on-line survey with managers and employees in tourism activities.

Tourism And Security In An Interconnected World. Globalisation's Consequences on Tourism And Security

QUAESTUS MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH JOURNAL, 2020

The paper addresses the tourism security nexus in a time of crisis, putting under debate the concept of the virtuous/vicious circle in the context of economy disruption caused by a pandemic, having travel and tourism sector as case study. Using two different crisis as main examples, such as the Tōhoku earthquake of 2011 in Japan and the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, the authors discuss the relationship between the exercise of freedoms (including freedom of movement) during a crisis and the measures aimed to provide security and safety, which of course may touch on the freedoms as the state of emergency may require. The paper tries to raise the awareness on the fact that security is the state of normality of the society, which is paramount for travel and tourism sector. This contribution to the topic is not intended to be exhaustive but to open up the debate.

Chapter 4 tourism security

The chapter explores the problem of terrorism and security in tourism fields. Certainly, plans and policies provided by guidebooks are not being followed in disasters. Simply chaos and disorder are the nature of emergencies. Beyond any protocol, crises and security are not properly defined by scholars. In this essay-review, the authors do not define what tourism security means. Instead, they view it through the lens of three senior scholars, Sevil Somnez, Abraham Pizam, and Peter Tarlow, who have accomplished this task. They have explored not only the roots of terrorism but also security over 20 years. Despite the criticism, they deserve recognition for this legacy. Based on substantial point of divergence, these specialists are concerned by the financial dependency of societies respecting mass media and its coverage of terrorist attacks.

Corporate social responsibilities of stakeholders in terms of secure tourism at disasters and sustainable tourism governance , 2017

n the report published by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, it is stated that 90 percent of 6,457 natural disasters have been caused by floods, storms, hot air waves, drought, and other excessive climatic movements in the last 20 years. Tourists are sent from Turkey to important tourism centers of the world. Turkey is an attractive country with significant potential for different types of tourism movements. Turkey is gradually becoming one of the countries which are negatively affected by the natural disasters occurring depending on climate changes. Likewise, whirlwinds have almost become a routine in the Mediterranean Region, particularly in Mersin province. The dense population in touristic regions is also of similar importance in terms of terrorist attacks – another type of man-made disasters. The chaotic environment created by disasters also has a feature which might be utilized as a suitable opportunity for terror as well. New problem areas have been added to the service flow and problems within the ethical behavior codes of tourism agencies that have gained a classical value. How those who manage tourism can govern the possible risk and crisis processes and, if available, their acquired experiences that they have developed to ensure the safety of tourists have gradually become more important in the scenario of secure tourism. In conclusion, this proposed study envisages model study based on the cooperation networks likely to be developed with the relevant public, private, and civil actors by taking the views of the stakeholders in the tourism sector such as the hotels and agencies managing the Domestic and Foreign Tourism activities in İzmir in addition to the issue of what kind of a strategic action plan they make and should be made with respect to safe tourism in important touristic areas.
