Saudi Arabia has been a victim of cyberattacks over the years, with an increasing number of attacks being reported since 2020. These cyberattacks significantly threaten the country's national security, economic stability, and personal privacy. In this article, we will explore the types of cyberattacks that have been observed in Saudi Arabia after 2020, the impact they have had on the country, and the measures taken by the Saudi government to counter these attacks. This article is aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of the current state of cyberattacks in Saudi Arabia and the measures taken to address them.

Preparedness of Saudi Arabia to Defend Against Cyber Crimes: An Assessment with Reference to Anti-Cyber Crime Law and GCI Index

With the increasing popularity of ICT, cyber-crimes have increased rapidly. Countries across the globe have made the necessary interventions to ensure cyber-security. Saudi Arabia has been the worst victim of cyber-crimes in the Gulf region. This article investigates the preparedness of Saudi Arabia to defend itself against cyber-crimes. In order to combat against cyber-crimes, Saudi Arabia formed the anti-cybercrimes law in 2007. Global Cyber-security Index of 2017 has placed Saudi Arabia in the maturing stage behind the leading nations. Anti-cybercrimes law covers essential areas to fight against cyber-crimes and states their punishments. However, it is found to be deficient to protect against identity theft, invasion of privacy, cyber-bullying etc. This research finds Saudi Arabia semi-prepared to defend itself against cyber-crimes. In order to be among the leading nations of cyber-security; Saudi Arabia needs to strengthen its anti-cybercrimes law, cyber-security regulations and national cyber-security authority. It needs to develop cyber-security strategy, standards, metrics and R&D programs. It should promote home-grown cyber-security industry, incentivize cyber-security companies and enter into multilateral agreements.

Cyber Attacks and Impacts: A Case Study in Saudi Arabia

With the development of technology, modern computer-assisted and Internet crimes have been increasing all this while, and there is a need to further investigate the current status of cybercrime and computer forensics in the region. Saudi Arabia is one of the fastest growing countries in the Middle East in terms of communications technologies such as the Internet and mobile phones. In this paper we explore cybercrime challenges in the Middle East using Saudi Arabia as a case study. In particular, we examine the impact of the use of Internet and cybercrime on adolescents in Saudi Arabia.

An Overview on Cyber Security Awareness in Muslim Countries

Various cases of security breaches and attacks has been experienced globally, and high-level cases of cyber-attacks that threaten security has been documented. Attacks from various hacking groups have been conducted on organizations like the LuzSec, Stuxnet and many others that caused various levels of damages. Recent years have even seen groups that are anonymous in nature, targeting businesses that are highly profiled and other organizations. Some attacks have been conducted with much ease, thereby exposing the existing weaker systems of handling cybercrimes and some breaches have brought along very highly costs incurred on security. Countries have become very vulnerable in particular with the escalating levels of economy and the essential needs of improving infrastructure, in which has made them rely on technology and computer networks. Cyber threats can be categorized into two, and briefly they’ve been explained. This paper evaluates some instances of cyber-attacks in some of the Muslim countries like The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the potential impacts and the possible recommendations that is implemented by governments, can help in raising awareness on cyber-attack issues.

This paper discusses the stand of Saudi Arabian government against cyber crime and its IT act. It analyzes the cybercrime in the Kingdom and the anti-cyber crime law.

Information security awareness in Saudi Arabia

While the Web, cell phone "apps" and cloud computing put a world of information at our fingertips, that information is under constant threat from cyber vandals and hackers. Although awareness of information threats is growing in the Western world, in places like Saudi Arabia, information security is very poor. Unlike Western pluralistic democracies, Saudi Arabia is a highly-censored country, with a patriarchical and tribal culture, which may influence its poor information security rating. This paper examines the level of information security awareness (ISA) among the general public in Saudi Arabia, using an anonymous online survey, based on instruments produced by the Malaysian Cyber Security Organization and KPMG. The survey attracted 462 respondents and the results confirmed that ISA in Saudi Arabia is extremely low. Several of the areas of weakness in ISA appear to be related to the level of censorship or the patriarchical and tribal nature of Saudi culture.
