Novel comparison study between the hybrid renewable energy systems on land and on ship
Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2016
The development of the marine industry led to an increasing amount of fuel consumption and greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions. However, it is hard to evaluate the payback and profitability of a hybrid renewable ship without preparing a complete investigation. A dearth of studies compares between the hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) on land and on ships. Therefore, the main objective of this research work is to provide a novel comparison study for the differences between HRES on land and on ships, utilizing the well-known Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Electric Renewable (HOMER) software. To the best knowledge of the authors, this study is the first to do comparison regarding the HRES on land and on ships. This study is based on the project titled "Study on the Application of Photovoltaic Technology in the Oil Tanker Ship" in China. The load profile data used is real and accurate, depending on the ship navigation route from Dalian in China to Aden in Yemen. The hybrid photovoltaic (PV)/diesel/battery system is found to be the optimum system regardless if it is on land or on ships with annual capacity shortage of 0%, which means this system is a 100% reliable system. The optimal system on land consists of 10,000 kW of PV system, 2000 kW of diesel generators, 500 batteries and 2000 kW of power converters. The optimal system on ship consists of only 300 kW of PV system, 2000 kW of diesel generators, 10 batteries and 200 kW of power converters. The optimal system on ships is able to decrease the amount of GHG emissions by 9,735,632.5 kg during the project lifetime (25 years). In addition, it has capability to decrease the fuel-consumption amount by 2,010,475 L during the project lifetime. This represents an incentive factor to increase the installed capacity of the PV system on the ships that consequently decreases the fuel-consumption amount and the total fuel cost.

Solar Hybrid Power System for Marine Diesel Engine
Green Innovations, 2014
Like all modes of transportation that use fossil fuels, ships produce carbon dioxide emissions that significantly contribute to global climate change and ocean acidification. Additionally, ships release other pollutants that also contribute to the problem and exacerbate climate change. Considering the large volume of ships on the high seas, ship emissions pose a significant threat to human health. The ocean is exposed to vast amounts of sunrays and has a great potential to be explored by the maritime sector and green power industry. Solar energy hybrid assisted power to support auxiliary power for the instruments on board the vessel is explored in a UMT vessel. The vessel that is used in this case study is Discovery XI, which is a 16.50 meter diving boat owned by University Malaysia Terengganu. The study explores the feasibility of using solar energy as a supporting power for marine vessel auxiliaries. The reduction of fuel usage after installing the solar PV system on the boat is determined, as well as an economic analysis. The power requirement for the vessel's electrical system is estimated. The fuel and money saved is also estimated for comparison purposes of the vessel using the solar PV system and the vessel without the PV system. Economic analyses are performed, the Annual Average Cost (AAC) between a vessel using solar PV system and a vessel without solar PV system is estimated, and the period of the return of investment for the vessel with solar PV system is also estimated. The use of a photovoltaic solar system to assist the boat power requirement will benefit the environment through Green House Gas (GHG) reduction, and the use of solar as a supporting alternative energy could cut the cost of boat operation through fuel savings.
Study of the Use of Alternative Energy Sources in Inland Waterway Transport
Transport Problems, 2019
A study has been conducted on the use of alternative energy sources for propulsion of a vessel in inland waterway transport. It is clear that at this stage it is most appropriate to use a vessel designed for short-haul trips between two banks of a ferryboat for passengers and luggage or for recreation and entertainment. On this basis, research has been conducted on a newly designed and built vessel to carry up to 12 people. The drive is fully powered by 180-Ah batteries at 48 V. The batteries are charged by the sun through 5-kW solar panels. The results show that the vessel powered by two 5-kW electric motors can sail autonomously for about 1.5 hours, to travel about 13 km, at an average speed of 7.9 km/h with an average energy consumption of 71.3 kWh/100km when sailing on a linearly reversible route including sailing downstream and upstream on the Danube River.
Renewable Energy Sources - Solar Energy Study Case Eco Park Gjakova
IFAC-PapersOnLine, 2019
The main aim of the paper is to closely elaborate the field of renewable energy field with special emphasis on the PV Ekopark plant in Gjakova. The legislation of Kosovo which is in force even though the allowed energy capacities in relevance with the energy strategy are up to 10MW with Feedin the most profitable tariff in the region has motivated investors in the solar power generation by the fact that this generating form is provided by the supply of I electricity from the scarcity capacities that Kosovo today lacks. In this paper, the underlying focus of the study will be the installation capacities at the EKOPARK plant in Gjakova, the generating capacities of the PV system, the efficiency and the efficiency of the production capacities of the type of panels that are installed, in proportion to the gained benefits under the climatic conditions and the position geographic elevation over the sea that this southeastern region has in the seaside. Among others in this research will be also verified the efficiency of the sun's rays of ambient and atmospheric impacts with the types of pollution and global warming phenomenon that has emerged from fossil burns. Kosovo is a strategic and suitable location for exploitation of solar resources and the second priority is related to geographic advantages. Consequently, it bears the largest solar potential in the region and Europe. Due to these parameters, the most feasible plan for the largest plant in the Balkans has been constructed with the construction of a photovoltaic power plant in Gjakova with a capacity of 6 MWh. Despite that this research will profoundly analyze the benefit of the Metrologic and climatic conditions of Kosovo. As matter of fact from 365 days of the year in the sector are 286 sunny per year, with an average of about 1400-16220 Whm2 of solar energy production.

Photovoltaic systems are renewable energy sources with various applications and their implementations in energy production and saving are verified. Installing those systems onto merchant marine vessels could prove to be an efficient way of minimizing fuel costs and simultaneously protecting the environment by reducing significant carbon dioxide emissions. This paper examines the feasibility of installing solar panels onto vessels and also calculated the payback period from the adopted investment with respect to fuel oil savings. Thus, the two important parameters incorporated in the parametric analysis are the solar radiation density and the fuel cost. In order to calculate the energy production of the solar installation systems, the globe is divided in six different zones, according to solar radiation density (Stackhouse and Whitlock, 2008). For one square meter of the considered solar panels the peak output power is taken equal to 130 W . The payback period of the investment depends greatly on the fuel prices. For a reasonable fuel price annual increase at about 10-15% the estimated payback period varies from 16 to 27 years. The more the fuel oil increases, the methodology reveals that the payback period converges to a minimum of 10 years. When using any storage media such as hydrogen, the methodology shows that the payback period increases and this depends on the proportion of the energy stored and from the storage media itself.

SOLAR CELL SYSTEM DESIGN FOR MECHANICAL COOLING SYSTEM ON THE FERRY 500 GT
Nowadays energy electricity is a primary need for almost the entire human race. Electrical Energy is very instrumental in carrying out the activities of the economy. Source of electric energy can be produced from a variety of sources of energy. Outline his energy can be in for two kinds of energy that can be updated and energy that cannot be updated. Source of energy that can not be updated, among others derived from fossil and nuclear and energy can still be updated, among others derived from geothermal (solar energy), ocean waves, waterfalls, wind, etc. Source of energy that can not be updated, notably energy derived from fossil gradually going on leave because the price become more expensive and the amount of energy sources already reduced. The Energy of the Sun can be used in the energy to heat (solar thermal) or as energy electricity (photovoltaic). Utilization of solar energy as solar photovoltaic plant in the engineering as a source of electrical energy to produce no pollution, air pollution and pollution on the surrounding environment. The basic ingredients of photovoltaic is solar cell. The use of solar cell on a vessel can be used as energy in a variety of electrical equipment on the ship, due to the relative abundance of Sun energy and never run out because the Sun bathes the territory Indonesia 10-12 hours a day. In this case the solar cell used to meet the needs of the mechanical cooling equipment on board the ferry that sails around the region of Indonesia. Expected usage of this solar energy can reduce the use of fossil fuels oil and can save on operational costs.
