Mais à s'égarer dans le champ des suppositions, on quitte le domaine de l'histoire » Marie-Félix Abel Summary: Several traditions, from most of Jerusalem, have been developed in ancient times around the figure of James the Just, brother of Jesus. Among them, the one relating to his tomb is the most recent. Argued here is the hypothesis that the tradition of the tomb, which is based on two texts in Latin and Georgian, and dates from the time of Cyril of Jerusalem (circa 350), succeeded to the tradition of the memorial, which dates back to the Ist century shortly after the death of James. Moreover, while the tradition of memorial, which depends on the tradition of martyrdom, comes from the Christian community of Judean origin, the tradition of the tomb, it is rather Christian community of Greek origin.
