Methods: A retrospective study was conducted through a medical record review in a top national referral hospital, Indonesia. Total of 75 preterm infants divided into groups of 15 infants by nutrition type (100% BM, 75% BM, 50% BM, 25% BM, and 0% BM). Weight gain was assessed for 12 days through the patients’ medical records. Weighing observation was devided into four times: birth weight in day-1, day-4, day-8, and day-12. Subjects were recruited using consecutive sampling with the following criteria: preterm infants with chronological age > 7 days and weight > 1000 grams. Meanwhile, the exclusion criteria were preterm infants treated in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), preterm infants with medical diagnosis of hydrocephalus, sepsis, ...
PRETERM BIRTH AND THE AFFECTING FACTORS IN DR . SOETOMO HOSPITAL , SURABAYA , INDONESIA Made
2014
Premature infants is a factor of infant mortality in Indonesia. In addition to causing deaths, if the baby continues to live it will be smitten by a variety of morbidities, such as abnormalities and infections. Premature infants are believed to have many an issue in his life such as breathing problems, low intelligence, behavioral and emotional disorders, until the occurrence of autism. Costs spent by families to care for premature babies also not small. Until now, the relative incidence of premature delivery did not change preformance last 40 years. By considering this, especially coupled with the continued high incidence of premature deliveries in Indonesia, we need to hold and the amount of research on factors influencing premature birth occurs. Knowing the incidence and factors that influence preterm birth in Dr.Soetomo hospital during January to March 2011. The research was done by finding the number of preterm birth and maternal medical records to record the number listed in t...

Introduction: Short-term outcomes of preterm infants refers to any preterm infants’ conditions after birth including medical diagnosis or morbidity, length of stay at the hospital, and readmission to hospital after discharge. A high number of preterm births were identified as the major case in the year of 2015 in a medical center at Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. However, limited evidence showed the preterm infants’ short-term outcomes in this medical center. This study was intended to investigate the short-term outcomes of preterm infants in a medical center, Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. Methods: The study used a retrospective design with a case-control study involving a convenience sampling of data set from 50 preterm and 50 term infants who were born from January to December 2015 in a medical center, Banyumas Regency, Indonesia. Any preterm infants’ outcomes from the hospital medical record were collected. Chi-Square, T-test, and Mann-Whitney U were used for statistical analysis. R...
Determinants of Low Birth Weight Babies (LBW) in the Bolo Health Center, Bima Regency, Indonesia
2019
Low birth weight babies (LBW) are still the main cause of perinatal death. At worldwide, the prevalence of LBW is estimated at 15%, and Indonesia has a low birth weight prevalence of 10.2%. LBW is the main cause of infant mortality in Bima Regency, at 43.75%. This study aims to determine the relationship and describe the determinants of infants’ LBW. This research was conducted at Bolo Health Center, Bolo Subdistrict, Bima Regency in March and April 2018. The research method is quantitative research combined with qualitative research, and case control was used as the research design. The total population was 909 people, and the sample comprised 180 people. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. Data analysis techniques consisted of univariate analysis, a chisquare test, and a simple logistic regression test. The qualitative data analysis techniques were in-depth interviews and FGD (focus group discussion). The results of the study were that there was a significant relati...
High preterm birth at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital as a national referral hospital in Indonesia
Medical Journal of Indonesia, 2017
Background: Preterm birth is the leading direct that causes neonatal death. Indonesia was listed as one of the countries with the greatest number of preterm birth in 2010. This study aims to identify the prevalence and the potential risk factors of preterm birth among women underwent delivery in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, an Indonesian national reference hospital. Methods: This retrospective cohort study involved 2,612 women who delivered between January and December 2013. Any clinical data which related to the potential risk factors and outcomes were recorded. The data were managed using chi-square for bivariate analysis and t-test or Mann-Whitney for numerical data followed by multiple logistic regression for multivariate analysis in SPSS version 20.0.Results: Preterm birth affected 1,020 of 2,616 pregnancies (38.5%). Non-booked patients increased nearly twice risk for preterm delivery (OR 1.89, 95% CI 1.37–2.61). While women with singleton pregnancy (OR 0.17, 95% CI 0.12–0.25), ...
Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Health Research (ISHR 2019), 2020
Based on IDHS (Indonesian Demographics Health Survey) data in 2017, the antenatal care (ANC) services provided by competent healthworkers is 97.5% in the first visit (K1) and 77.4% in fourth visit (K4). Meanwhile, based on Growth Chart record, it is found that Low Birth Weight (LBW) cases is still high (7.1%). This research aimed to determine the quality of service of ANC in Primary Health Care (PHC) and Hospitals and to analyse the factors related to LBW. This research was conducted using secondary data from IDHS in 2017 with cross-sectional design. The number of samples in this study is 16,342 and data were analysed using logistics regression. The results of the study shows that the proportion of ANC access in PHC is 93.38%, with no significant differences compared to hospitals (93.40%). Univariate analysis shows the percentage of LBW is 7.14% and the proportion of respondents accessing low quality of ANC services is 93.27%. Bivariate analysis shows there is a relationship between quality of ANC service and LBW (P value: 0.003). Multivariate analysis shows that the respondents who experienced low quality of ANC have a risk of experiencing deliveries with LBW of 1.56 times compared to good quality of ANC (OR = 1.56; 95% CI = 1.05-2.39) and (AOR = 1.71; 95% CI = 1.21-2.41). LBW could result in neonatal death, asphyxia and other complications. In order to reduce these problems and complications, pregnant women should avoid risk factors of LBW and accessing adequate and qualified ANC. It is suggested for the Midwives to provide appropriate health monitoring for pregnant women. Also, health facilities should be provided to accommodate ANC services in order to maintain healthy condition for babies and mothers throughout the pregnancy.
Low birth weights and risk of neonatal mortality in Indonesia
Health Science Journal of Indonesia, 2016
Correlation Between Ante Natal Care and Low Birth Weight in Indonesia
Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, 2021
This research was conducted to see whether there is a correlation between ante natal care and low birth weight. The study was conducted on secondary data using a cross sectional design. The results of the study show that: 1. Respondents who gave birth to infants with a status not below 2500 grams 24,585 babies (94.2%) and those who gave birth with LBW status were 1527 infants (5.8%). Respondents who visited ANC were compliant with 23,013 mothers (88.1%), while respondents who did ANC were not complied with 3,099 mothers (11.9%). It can be concluded that the difference in pregnant women who do not perform ANC at least 4 meetings has a LBW percentage greater than 1%. 2. There is a significant and unidirectional relationship between the compliance of ANC visits of pregnant women with LBW events in Indonesia from the 2013 RISKESDAS data.
Factors affecting neonatal birth weight in Sidotopo Wetan Health Centre: A cross-sectional study
World Journal of Advanced Research and Reviews, 2022
Birth weight serves as an indicator of a newborn’s health status. It is associated with mortality rate in the first year, developmental problems in childhood and risk of various diseases in adulthood. Even in modern era, it continues to be a health concern globally, especially in developing countries. In Indonesia, the prevalence of low birth weight has increased from 2013 to 2018, swaying further from the national target. Low birth weight is often caused by insufficient nutrients supplied by the mother to the fetus. In Indonesia, chronic energy deficiency status is diagnosed in the first antenatal care visit by measuring maternal middle-upper arm circumference with a cut-off point of 23.5cm. Meanwhile, iron level is measured via assessing hemoglobin level will be measured in the first antenatal care visit and in trimester III. This study aims to describe the factors that may influence neonatal birth weight. It is a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach conducted at Sid...

Introduction: Birth weight is often used to evaluate a newborn baby’s health. Low birth weight (LBW) is one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality. Mothers under the age of 20 (early pregnancy) are at a greater risk of affecting the weight and nutritional status of the unborn child. This research aimed to determine the relationship between early pregnancy and LBW. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of women and newborns at Airlangga University academic hospital from January through December of 2017. Data on characteristics such as maternal age and LBW were collected. The correlation between early pregnancy and infant weight was determined using the Chi-square test, with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: We conducted research on 210 pairs of mothers and their infants. 64 (30.48%) of the pregnancies occurred in women under the age of 20; 61 (29.55%) were born LBW (weighing less than 2,500 grams). Early age pregnancy was linked to a higher proportion of LBW infant...
