First Documentation of In Vivo and In Vitro Ivermectin Resistance in Sarcoptes scabiei (original) (raw)

Ivermectin resistance in Sarcoptes scabiei has become a concerning issue, particularly in patients suffering from crusted scabies who have received multiple doses. This study reports clinical and in vitro evidence of ivermectin resistance in two patients with recurrent crusted scabies after extensive ivermectin treatment. Despite previous beliefs that resistance was laboratory-induced only, real-world cases highlighted the need for reevaluation of treatment protocols for scabies, especially in hyperinfestation scenarios.
