The work examines the measure with which Tiberius, in 19 A.D., expelled Jews and other religious minorities from Rome, in an attempt to understand the reasons that led the emperor to issue such a provision, also taking into account the general attitude of the Roman ruling classes towards foreign religions. The workthen dwells on a number of historical contingencies that characterised the year 19 A.D. and that could also have contributed to motivating the emperor’s decision.
