Analysis of the influence of 5S work implementation culture on employee performance

Employee performance is a determining factor in achieving company goals. One of the factors that influence employee performance is the work culture in the company. This research focused on the application of 5S work culture (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu Shitsuke) and its influence on employee performance. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the application of 5S work culture on employee performance. The method used is a survey with SmartPLS 3.0. The survey was conducted in the service industry, especially hospitals that have applied 5S work culture. The questionnaire was distributed to employees in the industry. The analysis carried out is (1) Test the validity of the questionnaire (2) Test the outer and inner models (3) Test the hypothesis. The results obtained from this study are from the five hypotheses there are three variables that have a significant effect on employee performance including seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke.

The 5S Culture Implementation in PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk Office Area

Background: One of the Occupational Safety and Health implementation programs to minimize work accidents and occupational diseases is the application of 5S culture (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain). It aims to create a new and positive energy for the workers and maintain the better work environment. Survey To See The Impact Of 5s Implementation Among Staff Of Kpj Seremban Specialist Hospital,Malaysia

A survey was conducted in KPJ Seremban Specialist Hospital , Malaysia in July 2013. The survey forms were distributed to 330 staff consisting of questionaires which is divided into two sections. The first section was related to productivity, quality of work's place and proses in carrying out those works, quality of staff and morale of workers and safety of work's place. The second section was related to knowledge and understanding among staff. 234 (70.9%) respondent had returned the survey form. It was found that before the implementation of 5S, the scores varies from poor to good(scoring from 1-3) related to the impact on productivity for quality of working place, quality and moral of staff and safety of work place but after the implementation of 5S the scores had changed from good to excellent(scoring from 3-5). For the second section ,the staff had given 100% scoring for the commitment towards clean, safe and condusive working place, 64% scoring on the necessity to immediately disposed items that had been segregated, 99% scoring for the important of arrangement for easy searching /putting back the items, 99% scoring for the important of schedule for cleaning of work place to ensure it is free from dust and 99% scoring on the important of 5S as a good management system.

The influence of organizational culture toward 5S’s practices: A case of Universiti Utara Malaysia

This research aimed to identify the influence of organizational culture towards 5s practice. The four organizational cultures are involvement, consistency, adaptability and mission as independent variables, while the 5s practices is a dependent variable. This study aimed to identify the relationship between organizational culture towards 5s practices in. This study chosen 59 respondents as a sample size based from on the population of STML staff. The questionnaire will give to 59 respondents in STML. The method that is used is quantitative and question is based on five scales Likert such as 1 (strongly disagreed) to 5 (strongly agreed). The finding shows that culture of involvement to be significant elements of organizational culture towards 5s practice. Implementing 5S as a strategic tool in improving quality & productivity in higher education Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) experience

Organizations today are faced with many new challenges in the new millennium. There have been tremendous pressure tlzan ever before to improve the quality of goods and services provided. Improvement in quality and productivity are critical factors in determining the competitiveness of an organization and the nation. One of the strategic tools that can be used to improve quality andproductivity of an organization is by implementing 5 s. 5S is basically a determination to organize the workplace, keep it neat, maintain standardized conditions, and maintain discipline. Some of tlze benejts of implementing 5S successji~lly include increase in productivity, quality control, cost-effectiveness, prompt delivery, safe working conditions and high morale among the workers. 5S is program that involves the participation of everyone in the organization. Based on the beliefs and past experiences of other organizations, these activities can lead to improvement of quality environment and positive work culture and therefore, University Utara Malaysia (UUM) has embarked on the 5S program. This paper will highlight the process of implementing 5S at the university as well as the issues involved in the smooth and implementing the activities successful, hence supporting the university in creating a healthy environment and positive work culture.

The Effect of 5S on Employee Performance: An Empirical Study among Lebanese Hospitals

When studying the regular quality practices in hospitals, it is essential to focus on the 5S as it reflects the daily activities of healthcare providers. The aim of this research is to study the effect of 5S-quality approach on employee performance in some Lebanese hospitals. Based on a quantitative approach, a survey was conducted among four hospitals in South Lebanon and 240 self-administered questionnaires were distributed randomly among target respondents. The collected primary data was analyzed by SPSS software. Statistical tests were applied for hypothesis testing such as correlation and regression analysis tests. The obtained results showed that 5S is significantly and positively affecting employee performance except for Sort. This study was limited to the constricted geographical zone and small number of hospitals was surveyed. Future studies may enlarge the research empirically and study different quality approaches.

The Effectiveness of 5S Practices Towards Organizational Performance : Studies in Federal and State Agencies in Sarawak

This study was conducted to identify the effectiveness of 5S practices towards organizational performance in Federal and State agencies, particularly in Sarawak. Mixed method approach was adopted, in which data were obtained through the quantitative and qualitative methods. To be specific, explanatory case study was applied in order to help the researcher to examine the data obtained closely both at the surface (quantitatively) and an in depth level (qualitatively) in order to explain the issue of 5S practices in both Federal and State agencies in Sarawak. For data obtained through quantitative method, the research hypotheses of this study were analysed by using Pearson Correlation test through "Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS)" version 17.0. Results showed that the correlation between the implementation of 5S practices with organizational performance were significant. On the other hand, the qualitative data of this study was obtained through semi-structured interview and was analysed by using content analysis technique. Findings from this study pointed out that employee involvement and top management"s role appeared to be significant elements in driving the successful implementation of 5S program in both Federal and State agencies in Sarawak. In addition, findings from this study also indicated that most State offices in Sarawak were serious in exercising 5S practices at the workplace compared to Federal offices in Sarawak. The consistency of most findings with past studies and related theories or quality models showed that 5S practices did play an effective role in influencing the organizational performance in both State and Federal offices in Sarawak.

IMPLEMENTATION OF '5S' TECHNIQUE IN A MANUFACTURING ORGANIZATION: A CASE STUDY

The paper represents an application of '5S' technology in one of the MNC Samsonite South Asia Pvt. Ltd., Gonde-Dumala, Maharashtra which is the leading manufacturer of the luggage bags in the world. '5S' in simple terms is a Japanese technique consisting of five 'S' terms namely Seiri (sorting), Seiton (set in order), Seiso (shine), Seiketsu (standardize) and Shitsuke (sustain) having a deep sense for managing the work place. The aim of the implementation of '5S' in the organization is to enhance the productivity, safety, efficiency through effective workplace management. The need for the implementation of '5S' in the organization came into existence due to unorganized workstations , uncomfortable working environment and the excessive wastes in the company. Hence to get rid-off of the above factors, there was an urgent need for the successive implementation of '5S' in the organization. The effective following on '5S' in the organization by the various official staff and workman's strengthens the work ethic between them resulting in the motivation towards teamwork. The successive implementation of '5S' transformed the organization drastically, right from the working conditions to the employees working satisfaction.

Theoretical Review for Implementation of Japanese 5S Technique in Service Organizations, and the Possibility to Apply it in Syrian Service Organizations

This study aimed to carry out a theoretical review of the most important literature related to workplace organization technique (5S) and to explore its benefits and implementation on service organizations. This technique, which appeared first in Japan, has been applied widely on different types of organizations in a large number of countries. To achieve the goal of the study it was followed the "literature review" method, where the data that related to (5s) technique were collected with taking advantage of previous studies and their results, The study finds many of the results including: (5s) technique is easy and simple tool, and can be applied in various types of organizations, and there are a lot of benefits resulting from the successful application of (5s) technique, and based on these results the study put several suggestions including the use of benchmarking style by Syrian service organizations to identify the experiences of implementation the (5s) technique, and Syrian service organizations (especially healthcare organizations) should apply this technique, the study suggested that further future studies on the (5s) technique should be done by the Syrian researchers.

Implementation of 5S in the Pantry Housekeeping of Hotels to Increase Work Productivity

Housekeeping possessed warehouse storage of goods, including parts pantry (Floor Station). A place to store this stuff if not managed properly then it will be their own complaint for both workers and management. Complaints that arise usually messy stuff, stuff that in looking for difficult to reach, absence and so that adds to the workload of complaints and its own for house keeping part of the hotel employees. To provide solutions to the problems, conducted experimental research is the implementation of 5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke) or also called 5R (Ringkas, Rapi, Resik, Rawat, Rajin). This research was conducted at four hotels in Kuta, Bali with 20 employees as sample, and treatment by subject design. The musculoskeletal disorder predicted by Nordic Body Map questionnaire, fatigue is predicted by 30 item questionnaire general fatigue, and work productivity predicted by work volume divided by workload and work time. Data were analyzed at the level of significance of 5%. Result of analysis showed that between before and after treatment 5S increase significantly (P <0.05) on the musculoskeletal disorders (25.4%), general fatigue (28,4%), and increase productivity (32,5%). It was concluded that the implementation of 5S can increase work productivity workers hotel.
