The Impact of the COVID-19 Crisis on Human Resource Management: Between Challenges and Opportunities

The study is devoted to current economic and management issues. They are related to the need for timely adaptation of human resource management policies in the raw material enterprises in Bulgaria in the context of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Some theoretical and applied issues are addressed and covered together with the different economic and management aspects of the research question. The aim is to establish the impact of the COVID crisis on human resource management process and to discuss the challenges and opportunities.

The development focuses on the possibilities by seeking a new vision for adapting human resource management to changes and dynamics of the environment, to obtain positive results in an organizational context. New approaches to governance have been gaining momentum in most developed countries in the last decade and cover both business and public administration.

The pandemic disrupts the functioning of most sectors and exposes the shortcomings and vulnerabilities among many. Literature search in leading databases reveals that though shocked by the crisis, many industries and organizations have reinvented themselves through various strategies to overcome the consequences of the pandemic. After a thorough analysis of individual articles, the authors found out that human resource management considers the disruptive changes in the working pattern, challenges, and opportunities ahead and makes appropriate changes to create an efficient workforce for the future with the help of technology that has become an inevitable companion in human resource management and not a panacea for uncertainties and crises ahead.

THE NEED FOR INNOVATIVE HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT PRACTICES AFTER ECONOMIC CRISIS

The aim of article is to add some points to the discussion about value of different actions in area of human resources management and talent management practices realized and recommended in companies during transitional period between economic crisis and new prosperity phase expected. The theoretical psychological background of job insecurity and its organizational implications as well as an economical risk of too restrictive HR policy during crisis are indicated. Main practical directions of HRM strategies used by companies during crisis time are described and there are recommended theses tactics which seem to be prospective in regards to future. Conclusions for more innovative HR practices based on offensive active strategies are discussed together with theoretical model and results of special set reports done in years 2009 -2010 dedicated to talent management as a most prospective way to achieve competitive position on the market acting in knowledgebasedeconomical conditions.

The '4V' approach is administered throughout the operational level in an organisation. Expression of empathy among all levels of the hierarchy of the taskforce is the foundation of this '4V'approach and need of the hour. The proposed '4V' approach is a continual process; it requires continuous support and initiative of top management for transforming organisational work environment. It is peak time for top management's leadership to instigate and develop a candour relationship between its people and the organisation's vision. The approach addresses and dilutes the psychological distress of the workforce arising from the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. In this research, the '4V' approach is a strategic-compliances deliberation, that is developed based on 'Managerial Good Practices' within the operational system of the organisation. The study also confirms upon offering a pious work environment to every individual in the organisation. Comprehending the detailed analysis of each 'V' of the '4V'approach, it is definite that the '4V'approach is psychologically administered. The uncertainty of COVID-19 is raising without any specific deadline, in this scenario its judicious to accept the new normalness and get our systems ready in parlance with COVID-19 management at the workplace. The need of the hour is to enhance flexibility and adaptability to accept the conscious changes in life along with re-imaging and innovative ideas to restructure the business setbacks s due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Making the employee feel safe, at ease, imperative to the organisation, ought to be the prime concern of this strategic HR approach and ensuring combating-traits among people against the pandemic situation.
