Eyewitness of Odilo Globocnik's suicide in Paternion (May 31. 1945) Tape recording My name is XY, living in Paternion, born 1928 and can remember fairly well the incidents leading to the arrest of Gauleiter Rainer, and also about Globocnik's death I am able to say some words. It was end of May, today I can no more tell the date with absolute certainty. My cousin as young man then was as an interpreter with the British and he had told us, that in fact Rainer, Gauleiter Rainer, had been arrested by the British in Stockenboi together with a group of other Nazis, and that he before noon on that very day will be brought to interrogation. And in case we then would be interested to see him, we should come up to Paternion castle. We then copmplied with that notofication. With some friends then I was standing at the West-, Ost-, West side of the castle saw there at the former prison of the counts a gathering of about 10-15 persons, while 6 or 7 civilians were recognizable, which we did not know. In the center we could recognize with certainty that Gauleiter Rainer was amongst them. And we watched this group. And suddenly there out of this group a man collapsed like hit by a lightning. After that a panic broke out among the British. The British immediately took defensive actions, then chased us away from there, with terrible shouting and utmost excitement. And later it turned out, that in fact it was that Globocnik, which at the time then did not mean anything at all to us.
