Productive efficiency of the private universities in Bangladesh: a data envelopment analysis (original) (raw)
2016
Abstract
This paper analyses the productive efficiency of the private universities in Bangladesh using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). We have found that 25% universities are pure technically efficient in production, 75% are pure technically inefficient, 96% universities are scale inefficient, and almost 100% universities are operating with decreasing returns to scale productive technology. The implication of on-going operation of the private universities is that enhanced operational efficiency is unlikely to generate savings out of operational efficiency individually. Therefore, the universities may think of merging with each other and can generate savings collectively.
