The Intentions to Become Entrepreneurs in the Indonesian Vocational School Graduates

The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which people, especially fresh graduates in Indonesia, have the intention to become an entrepreneur and to find out how much influence attitudes towards entrepreneurship, subjective norms, and perceptions of behavioral control have on their intentions to become entrepreneurs. The results showed that there is a significant influence on attitudes towards entrepreneurship, subjective norm, and perceived behavior control on vocational graduates in Jakarta and Yogyakarta. This study shows that the subjective norm has the largest contribution to the intention to be an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship education has been shown to have a significant influence on the emergence of intentions to become entrepreneurs on the learner. Therefore, the government needs to be more serious in dealing with the curriculum and the learning process on entrepreneurship in vocational subjects. In addition, the curriculum subjects of entrepreneurship should be integrated with the business needs of daily life within the scope of the school for the cooperation with other areas teachers need to be done to form the competencies that needed to become entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship education is crucial for students to learn knowledge around entrepreneurial skills, attitudes, and stimulates entrepreneurial intentions. This study aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurship education program on student’s entrepreneurship intention in vocational schools with gender as moderation. There were 198 respondents from seven vocational schools in Yogyakarta province participated in this quantitative study. The analysis technique used is PLS-SEM with the help of SmartPLS software. The result revealed that entrepreneurship education programs are positively related to student’s entrepreneurship inspiration and intention. The Effectiveness of an Entrepreneurship Learning Model in Growing Competence and Entrepreneurial Intention of Vocational High School Students in East Java Indonesia

The high unemployment rate of vocational high school graduates, as released by Central Statistic Bureau (BPS) in 2017 , raises the notion that the entrepreneurship culture is still not entrenched. This raises the question, whether the entrepreneurial learning activities have been effective for improving the entrepreneurship competence and entrepreneurial intention of the graduates? This research is applied to the 12 th graders in Surabaya, Malang, Jombang, Madiun and Banyuwangi. In this study, entrepreneurship learning is grouped into 3 categories, namely : entrepreneurship theoretical learning, entrepreneurship theoretical learning combined by business practices, and entrepreneurship theoretical learning combined by student involvement in the business activities. To obtain the data, students were asked to conduct self assessment of entrepreneurial competence perceived based on 3 learning models they received. At the same time, students are asked to express their entrepreneurial intention perceptions. Descriptive and statistical analysis is used to analyze the data. This study revealed that entrepreneurial learning activities combining theoretical studies and involving students to business activities is the most effective learning model to improve entrepreneurship competence of students, especially for skill dimension and entrepreneurial attitude. The entrepreneurial learning activities combining theoretical studies and involving students to business activities is also effective to grow students entrepreneurial intention, especially the encouragement to entrepreneurship, immediately creating business activity after graduation, the effort to entrepreneurship, and set entrepreneurship profession as the first choice after graduation. This study recommends to schools that entrepreneurship learning activities should emphasize more on the theoretical study combined with the student involvement in business activities. This can be done by optimizing the business centre function, and strengthening the cooperation with the business institution.

Antecedents of Entrepreneurial Interest among Vocational High School Students in Kediri, East Java, Indonesia

This research aimed to know the effect of need for achievement and internal locus of control on entrepreneurial interest mediated by entrepreneurial attitude. This research employed correlational research design. Population consisted of 210 students of Vocational High Schools in Marketing Expertise Program throughout city of Kediri, East Java Province, Indonesia. Sample of research were 131 students taken by using proportionate random sampling. Research findings revealed that all of variables influenced positively and significantly, except internal locus of control which gave negatively significant effect on entrepreneurial interest. The effect of entrepreneurial attitude on entrepreneurial interest was found to be the strongest one.

Does entrepreneurial knowledge influence vocational students’ intention? Lessons from Indonesia

The study attempts to extend the current understanding of entrepreneurship education by engaging the entrepreneurial mindset, knowledge, and the intention to be an entrepreneur. The second purpose is to highlight through testing the moderating role of entrepreneurial knowledge on the relationship between entrepreneurial education and students' intention to be entrepreneurs. Research Design & Methods: The approach utilised in this study was a quantitative research design using a survey model. The participants of this study were recruited from vocational students in Jakarta who enrolled in the entrepreneurial education course. Furthermore, the data were analysed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings: Entrepreneurship education impacts three variables, including entrepreneurial mind-set, knowledge, and intention. Entrepreneurial knowledge influences students' intention to be entrepreneurs; however, it has an insignificant impact on entrepreneurial mindset. Implications & Recommendations: Entrepreneurship education in Indonesia should be further developed due to its essential role in education young entrepreneurs, for instance, through curriculum revitalisation. Contribution & Value Added: Notwithstanding the relatively limited sample, this work offers valuable insights into the important role of entrepreneurship education and vocational students' intention to be entrepreneurs in Indonesia. This research studied the relationship between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention of university students. Following original research by Zhang, Duysters, Cloodt (2014), Ajzen's theory of planned behavior and Shapero's entrepreneurial event model would be incorporated to identify the effect of exogenous variables such as entrepreneurship education, prior entrepreneurial exposure, perceived desirability and feasibility towards entrepreneurial intention in university students. Furthermore, this study aimed to investigate the selection hypothesis of entrepreneurship education for entrepreneurial intentions. Lastly, this study was also proposing to investigate the moderating effect of the teachers and instructors' enthusiasm (Frenzel et al., 2009), pre-educational entrepreneurship intention (Bae et al., 2014), gender (Verheul et al., 2012), as well as the moderating effect of peers in the classroom (Falck et al., 2012). The data would be collected from one of the private and reputable universities in Indonesia in multiple departments with a form of entrepreneurship education. In this study we found that entrepreneurship education does shape entrepreneurial intention. Students with pre-educational entrepreneurial intention would be more likely to have higher entrepreneurial intention. We also learned that there's a strong relationship between social influence of classmates and entrepreneurial intention. In addition, we found that male and female students have a different perspective about entrepreneurship education that affected their entrepreneurial intention.

Entrepreneurial Intention of Students in Indonesia and Malaysia

This aims of this study is to analyses the entrepreneurial intention of students in Indonesia and Malaysia. The sample contains 296 respondents that comprise 156 students from several universities in Indonesia and 140 from universities in Malaysia. The data WAS collected using a questionnaire distributed through Google forms. Descriptive analysis and multiple regression were carried out. The results show that entrepreneurship education does not have a big influence on students’ interest in entrepreneurship. However, family support, social support and personality have significant effects on students’ entrepreneurship interest. Personality is the strongest influencing factor. There is a significant difference between Indonesian and Malaysian students as to entrepreneurship intention. The most significant difference lies in the personality of students.
