TRIANGULAR SLOT CIRCULAR PATCH ANTENNA FOR CIRCULAR POLARIZATION RECONFIGURABILITY
IAEME PUBLICATION, 2013
This paper proposes a reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna with polarization states being switched between left hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right hand circular polarization (RHCP). The CP mode has been excited by perturbation element which is a triangular slot in the circular patch. Two PIN diodes are symmetrically placed on each side of triangular slot to alter the current direction around the patch, which determines the polarization state. By changing the state of the PIN diode, the antenna has been made to switch between twp states of circular polarization. This polarization reconfigurable patch antenna covers IEEE 802.11 outdoor band and has good agile polarization performance with nearly 48MHz CP bandwidth and minimum axial ratio near to 1dB. The minimum axial ratio frequency for LHCP and RHCP are same as 5.80GHz.
TRIANGULAR SLOT CIRCULAR PATCH ANTENNA FOR POLARIZATION RECONFIGURABILITY
IAEME PUBLICATION, 2013
This paper proposes a reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna with polarization states being switched between circular polarization (CP) and Linear polarization (LP). The CP mode has been excited by perturbation element which is a triangular slot inside a circular patch. A PIN diode has been placed on right side of the triangular slot to alter the current direction around the patch, which determines the polarization state. By changing the state of the PIN diode, the antenna has been made to switch between linearly polarized and circularly polarized mode. This polarization reconfigurable patch antenna covers IEEE 802.11 outdoor band and has good agile polarization performance with nearly 50MHz CP bandwidth and minimum axial ratio as 1.46dB. The minimum axial ratio frequency for CP and maximum axial ratio frequency for LP are nearly same at 5.767GHz and 5.775GHz respectively.
DESING AND SIMULATION OF CIRCULAR PATCH ANTENNA WITH A RECONFIGURABLE POLARIZATION
A circular patch antenna with reconfigurable polarizations is proposed. Linear polarized (LP) antennas suffers from poor signal transmission during adverse weather condition and multipath effects as a result of secondary transmission from nearby environment. Therefore circular polarized (CP) antennas prove to be a good candidate in this regard. The proposed antenna uses strip lines connected via a copper strip switch to achieve both right hand circular polarization and left hand circular polarizations. The overall size of the antenna is 0.52λo x 0.52λo at the operating frequency of 2.40 GHz. The antenna is compact and versatile due to its re-configurable ability. The simulated gain and radiation efficiency of 6.25 dBi and 84.5 % is obtained respectively for both polarization at the resonance frequency. The antenna performances in terms of reflection coefficients , electric field distributions and the radiation patterns are presented and discussed. The reflection coefficient and the gains obtained shows that the antenna has potential applications for WLAN (2.39-2.45 GHz) operations.
Polarization Reconfigurable Square Patch Antenna for Wireless Communications
Advanced Electromagnetics , 2018
In this letter, a single fed polarization reconfigurable antenna is proposed. The antenna consists of a radiating patch incorporated with a diagonal-shaped slot at its center. Four p-in diodes are used for polarization reconfiguration. The p-in diodes are placed in diagonal slot region. The proposed antenna is designed to operate in three states-linear polarization (LP), left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) by biasing corresponding p-in diodes. The antenna gives measured peak gain of 6.2 dBi for LP state and 5.82 dBic for both RHCP and LHCP states. It also achieves 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 5.95% for both RHCP and LHCP configurations. The antenna finds application in areas of modern wireless communication.

Progress In Electromagnetics Research M
A single fed polarization reconfigurable antenna is presented. The antenna comprises of a circular ring-shaped radiating element along with reconfigurable feed network located at its center which eliminates the need for additional space for reconfigurable feed network. A separate biasing network is placed to bias the pin diodes in the feed network for polarization reconfiguration and achieves three polarization states (linear, left-hand and right-hand circularly polarization). The antenna is designed to operate at 2.4 GHz ISM band. The antenna parameters are simulated using Ansoft highfrequency structure simulator and are validated using Agilent network analyzer (N9925A) and antenna test systems. The antenna achieves a good −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 85 MHz (2.40-2.485) GHz in linear state and 85 MHz (2.41-2.495) GHz in the circularly polarization states along with better crosspolarization isolation (≥ 15 dB) in the operating bands and hence more suitable for modern wireless communications.
Design of Pin Loaded Reconfigurable Patch Antenna for Wireless Communications
The Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society, 2019
The design and performance analysis of a single fed reconfigurable patch antenna for circular polarization is presented. The patch has a square shaped slot etched on it. Four ultra-miniature diode switches are placed at appropriate positions to bridge the gap in the slot regions and are used to switch the nature of polarization between left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP). The antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth (S11 ≤-10dB) between 2.34 GHz to 2.4 GHz (2.53%) with a center operating frequency of 2.37 GHz. The surface current distributions on the radiating patch along with its corresponding radiation patterns measured at the operating frequency are plotted. The antenna achieves an axial ratio beam width (AR ≤ 3dB) of-25 ⁰ to 50 ⁰ for left-hand circular polarization and-40 ⁰ to 45 ⁰ for right-hand circular polarization. Measured radiation pattern results show the antenna has a good cross-polarization isolation of-16.2 dB for RHCP configuration and-16.54 dB for LHCP configurations and hence the antenna is suitable for modern wireless applications.
Reconfigurable circularly polarized antenna for short-range communication systems
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2000
This paper describes the design rules of a compact microstrip patch antenna with polarization reconfigurable features (right-handed circular polarization (CP)/left-handed CP). The basic antenna is a circular coplanar-waveguide (CPW)-fed microstrip antenna excited by a diagonal slot and the CPW open end. This device is developed for short-range communications or contactless identification systems requiring polarization reconfigurability to optimize the link reliability. First, experimental and simulated results are presented for the passive version of the antenna excited by an asymmetric slot. A reconfigurable antenna using beam-lead p-i-n diodes to switch the polarization sense is then simulated with an electrical modeling of the diodes. Finally, the efficiency reduction resulting from the diode losses is discussed.
A New Dual-Band , Dual-Polarized and Single Feed Reconfigurable Antenna
2016
─ In this paper, a new single feed reconfigurable annular-ring slot antenna for polarization and frequency diversity for WLAN and WiMAX applications is proposed. This antenna has a simple structure; it contains two concentric circular slots, and four tuning stubs on one side of the substrate, and a 50 Ω microstrip feed line and two stubs on the other side. The proposed antenna can be switched between two resonant frequencies, 2.4 GHz (WLAN) and 3.5 GHz (WiMAX). Furthermore, it can be switched between left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) and right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) at both resonant frequencies. Using seven switches (PIN diode), on both sides of the substrate. Details of the antenna design are shown and the results are also exhibited and discussed. Simulation and experimental results indicate that the proposed antenna demonstrates a good impedance bandwidth at the two resonant frequencies, and satisfactory axial ratios in the circularly polarized states. This paper proposes a reconfigurable multiband extended U-slot antenna with polarization diversity for wireless applications. The antenna is able to switch among linear polarization (LP) and left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) circular polarizations (CPs) for 2.4-/5.8-GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) systems. The antenna is composed of an extended U-slot patch with modified ground plane and two p-i-n diodes to switch the slots at ON-and OFF-states. The p-i-n diodes are appropriately positioned to change the length of the slot arms, which alters the antenna's polarization with frequency diversity to operate in four states. The simulated and measured results verified the effectiveness of the proposed antenna configuration. The experimental bandwidths of the 10-dB return loss for RHCP and LHCP of 2.4-GHz WLAN are similar about 320 MHz (2.3-2.6 GHz), whereas for LP, the bandwidth is about 500 MHz (2.4-2.9 GHz). The bandwidths of the 3-dB axial ratio for the RHCP and LHCP states are about 400 MHz on the broadside direction for 2.4-GHz WLAN. The bandwidths for RHCP and LHCP of 5.8-GHz WLAN are about 500 MHz (5.6-6.1 GHz), whereas for LP, the bandwidth has two states about 300 MHz (5.7-6 GHz) and 600 MHz (5.3-5.9 GHz). This reconfigurable patch antenna with agile polarization and frequency diversity has good performance and concise structure, which can be also used for LP at 2.6-GHz Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), digital multimedia broadcasting, 3.5-GHz WiMAX, C-band satellite (downlink), and HiperLAN/2 systems.
