TOPICAL REVIEW: Event shapes in e+e- annihilation and deep inelastic scattering

2004, Journal of Physics G-nuclear and Particle Physics

This article reviews the status of event-shape studies in e+e- annihilation and DIS. It includes discussions of perturbative calculations, of various approaches to modelling hadronisation and of comparisons to data.

Abstract The structure of hadronic final states in deep inelastic scattering expected from QCD is analyzed in terms of the shape parameters H l and C l. We find that the effects of the fragmentation of quarks and gluons into hadrons are typically governed by View the MathML source. For√ s≳ 30 GeV, the distributions of events in H 2 and C 2 should allow a test of the perturbative QCD prediction of three-jet events.
