The issue of funding of political parties such as expensive campaign costs, illegal donations, corruption of political party members’, and the unwillingness of political parties to be open and transparent in funding management show that political parties are still not open and modern. This article aims to examine the issue by focusing on the problems, how the funding arrangements of political parties in Indonesia and their implications, and how alternative funding models of political parties should be introduced to realize an open and modern political party. This study uses normative legal research by utilizing the primary legal materials of statutory regulations, secondary legal materials of books, journals, and other scientific papers, as well as tertiary dictionary and internet dictionary materials, which are then analyzed qualitatively.
