A Review on Internet of Things (IoT) in Agriculture: Benefits, Challenges and Way Forward

IRJET, 2022

Internet of things has been used to create changes in different areas of national life worldwide. These sectors includes: Homes, Cities, traffic, Security, financial industry, communication and the Energy sector etc. Agriculture is one of the units of these applications. This is because the world population is growing very fast and the traditional method of farming may not be able to produce enough food for the citizens. The condition of unsuitable weather, land use for social economic activities have made things complex. Insecurity, particularly in Nigeria such as: kidnapping, Animal rustling, Boko haram, Gun men attacks to lack of relevant agricultural technology and information by stake holders have affected productivity. Soil infertility, and crops that get contaminated by certain chemicals underground could be harmful to consumers. In the light of all these, the use of Internet of things can be deployed to handle input activities and increase productivity in the agricultural sector. Internet of Things is the marriage of several technologies, such as wireless sensor network, radio frequency identification, cloud computing, data analytics, miniaturization, computing and communication technology. These elements can connect and communicate over the internet. In this review paper, focus is on internet of things system, benefits of internet things to the agricultural sector, the challenges and way forward.

A Comprehensive Study with Challenges of Internet of Things (IoT) based Model for Smart Farming

International Journal of Education and Management Engineering

In most developing countries, the majority of the population heavily rely on agriculture for their livelihood. The yield of agriculture is heavily dependent on uncertain weather conditions like monsoon, soil fertility, availability of irrigation facilities and fertilizers as well as support from Govt. The main challenge in this study if the agricultural yield which is quite less compared to the effort put in due to inefficient agricultural implements and lack of knowledge on the other hand. It is therefore essential for the farmers to improve their harvest yield by acquisition of related data such as soil condition, temperature, humidity, availability of irrigation facilities, availability of manure etc and adopt smart farming techniques using modern agricultural equipment. A trend has started amongst the farmers to shift from traditional conventional farming to smart farming using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology, which can help improve yield with reduced effort at economic cost. The main focus of this paper is to present work related to these technologies in the agriculture field. This also presented their challenges & benefits related to smart farming. For improving the system, IoT will interact with other useful systems like Wireless Sensor Networks. It can help for understanding the job of data by using IoT and correspondence advancements in horticulture division. This will help to motivate and educate the unskilled farmers to comprehend the best bits of knowledge given by the huge information investigation utilizing smart technology and also provide data analysis in terms of temperature, humidity that can help farmers to reduce computation time. It will also help to identify water utilization in prior.

An Internet of Things Solution for Smart Agriculture

Agronomy

Over the last decade, the increased use of information and communication technology (ICT) in agriculture applications has led to the definition of the concept of precision farming or equivalently smart agriculture. In this respect, the latest progress in connectivity, automation, images analysis and artificial intelligence allow farmers to monitor all production phases and, due to the help of automatic procedures, determine better treatments for their farms. One of the main objectives of a smart agriculture system is to improve the yield of the field. From this point of view, the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm plays a key role in precision farming applications due to the fact that the use of IoT sensors provides precise information about the health of the production. In this paper, the results of the recently concluded R&D project ENOTRIA TELLUS are reported. The project aimed at the development of all hardware/software components for implementing a precision farming architecture...

INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT) IN A FUNCTION OF SMART AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT

2019

In the internet sector, the internet of things is the hot point. These ideas assist to link physical items fitted with the sensing, actuating, and computer energy, thereby enabling them to cooperate with the internet, known as the "Internet of Things" or IoT. The concept of the intelligent object is realized using sensors, actuators and integrated microcontrollers. These smart objects collect data, process them and initiate appropriate actions from the development environment. The internet of things will thus bring inconceivable advantages and help people lead smart and affluent lives. The internet of things turned out to be an important topic of scientific studies because of the prospective applications. In sizzling debate and studies, the use of these technologies is significant, however, they were less relevant in agriculture and forestry. This paper also concisely introduces IoT technology, agriculture IoT, the list of prospective applications where IoT is relevant for...

Impact of Internet of Things (IoT) in Smart Agriculture

Recent Trends in Intensive Computing

In today’s world, technology is constantly evolving; various instruments and techniques are available in the agricultural field. And within the agrarian division, the IoT preferences are Knowledge processing. With the help of introduced sensors, all information can be gathered. The reduction of risks, the mechanization of industry, the enhancement of production, the inspection of livestock, the monitoring of environment conditions, the roboticization of greenhouses, and crop monitoring Nearly every sector, like smart agriculture, has been modified by Internet-of-Things (IoT)-based technology, which has shifted the industry from factual to quantitative approaches. The ideas help to link real devices that are equipped with sensors, actuators, and computing power, allowing them to collaborate on a task while staying connected to the Internet, dubbed the “Internet of Things” (IoT). According to the World Telecommunication Union’s Worldwide Guidelines Operation, the Internet of Things (I...

GUB Journal of Science and Engineering, 2021

By natural process, the world population will in-crease day by day. In rhythm, the tendency of the food will also be rising. So, it is a great challenge to supply food and increase its availability for the huge amount of people of the world, which helps to fulfill their fundamental civil rights. Nowadays, many agriculturedependent countries are fully dependent on the orthodox agriculture process. To develop such types of conditions, people should attract to modern cultivation practices. In the modern era, the Internet of things (IoT) is an optimal solution for preventing such types of challenges. IoT can connect with neoteric agriculture technology. Byusing this technique, farmers can directly connect themselves and control their felds and monitor their feld environmental conditions from anywhere around the world. By the use of unique forms of sensors, models, strategies, and technologies farmers can collect much real-time information and it helps a bearer to increase his productivity of farming. The goal of this paper is to reconsider some very recent works on smart and prompt agriculture processes. In this review paper, we have spoken about the techniques, and methodologies and summarized the state-of-the-art literature. We also made a comprehensive discussion and profound analysis of those recent works. Finally, we have given some future suggestions about smart farming techniques based on our discussion and analysis.
