Within the practice of construction economics, cost-benefit audits are carried out by proprietary audits with the intention of reporting the adequacy of any action and decision taken, meeting planned objective of a project or by efficiency audit which requires a more concise and restrictive investigation (like energy optimization) for its reporting. The efficiency audit system is most appropriate for energy utilization and performance investigation since it seeks to compare actual level of energy uses as against planned targets. This economic audit system of building energy requires that information about the energy designs are collected by means of management information system (MIS), reestablishing the data collected, comparing potential energy financial parameters with actuals, establishing the possible causes of variance. This is often justified or validated by such techniques as budgeted energy cost variance analysis, present value depreciation method, profit variance analysis, and cash flow and financial criteria analysis.

The ideology of ensuring energy-efficient design and construction of buildings by providing minimum requirements is the core objective of this work. Energy audit was conducted to improve the design of the building with incremental requirements to further enhance the energy efficiency. The Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) has been modified extensively over the years, starting from its initial deployment in the year 2011 to its latest modifications in the year 2019. The energy conservation standards in ECBC apply to building envelope, heating ventilation, air conditioning, lighting, service water heating, and electric power distribution. It should also be ensured that all-electric systems, transformers, energy-efficient motors, and diesel generators must meet the regulated set of mandatory requirements. The renovation of the existing building stock is a top priority for the European Union. In order to reach the ambitious goal of decarbonization by 2050, new financial instruments, incentives or grants and loans to support energy efficiency should be implemented, especially for public bodies. The proposed method aims to be a tool to stimulate cost-effective deep renovations. The results of its application to a multi-owner building show the benefits of using Energy Service Companies and Energy Performance Contracting to finance renovations and implement plans to maintain or improve energy efficiency in the long term.

Review on Energy Audit: Benefits, Barriers, and Opportunities
Energy audit is one lever to reduce carbon emissions of an organization (industrial site, residential building etc.;). This paper explores the energy audit savings tendance, barriers, challenges, and opportunities through an extensive review of the literature. Different variant of the methodology can be found in the literature and one aim of this research is to make a synthesis (from the most relevant variant). Energy audit can be adapted to the size and context of the organization thanks to the different levels of audits. Different cases studies are also included in this article that highlights the benefits of the energy audit. Other aspects are studied such as tools to use during audit and competencies and experience of auditors. Several barriers should be removed progressively to add more benefits to this sustainable lever. A list of opportunities has been identified and should be subject to further research.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present the efficiency of electricity use and potential of electricity reduction at 12 residential colleges located at University of Malaya Campus, Kuala Lumpur.Design/methodology/approachThe work presented applies an energy audit when energy consumption data were collected and analysed for a five‐year period. The total savings of electricity used at residential colleges were identified through the difference between average total energy use in a year (kWh) and minimum electricity usage.FindingsThe study finds that residential colleges with special features of building layout and arrangement performed better with regard to electricity consumption due to the prior group's superior utilisation of day lighting and natural ventilation. Energy Audit: A Case Study of Hostel Building
Energy conservation is an increasingly important issue for all developing countries. In India, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has number of schemes to promote energy efficiency and also make mandatory to do energy auditing in industries. Energy auditing helps in energy cost optimization and also helps in to conserving environment. It is a method to observe the existing system and their energy consumption trends and finding out the best alternative which reduces the energy consumption pattern and at the same time, estimates the financial benefit associated with that. In this paper, an attempt is made to analyze the energy consumption pattern in hostel buildings (National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra) with major focus on lighting and fan load. The detail energy auditing data is used to find out the major areas of efficiency improvement. Financial and carbon emission reduction analysis is performed to check the feasibility of energy efficiency suggestion.
