The use of games in the language classroom
This essay focuses on the use of games inside the classroom and it argues that games can be a good teaching method when teaching foreign languages. It looks at why games should be used as a teaching method and how in order to maximize the positive result on language learning. Also this essay explains various game categories and it gives an example of at least one game from each category which can be especially good in language teaching. In addition this essay looks at the four language skill areas: reading, writing, listening and speaking and it gives reasons for why games can be beneficial in the training of each one. Last but not least I created 3 new games that can be utilized inside the language classroom.

This review paper is dedicated to the learning game as an educational phenomenon in foreign language education of adults. Gamification becomes one of the main trends in language education not only of children but of adults as well. Game is a central subject of the author’s recent research works, including a monograph about game in foreign language education on the base of Russian language. In the article a general definition of game in language education is given. A conception regarding practical foreign language education with active use of game activities is generally presented. Using game in teaching process is active if it takes an average of 30% learning time. The author gives an explanation about relevance of this proportion. Useful practical instructions for using different game activities at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels of foreign language teaching to adults are presented. The Usage of Games in Teaching a Foreign Language at the University

The article discusses the possibilities of using word games in the process of teaching a foreign language at a university. The main classifications of games are given, with the main attention being paid to games of a lexical nature. The article substantiates the conditions that allow the most effective use of word games in foreign language classes, and also provides examples of games at different stages of work with students. Mastering a foreign language at a university implies the formation of a number of competencies in students. In particular, graduates should be able to communicate orally and in writing in a foreign language and solve problems of interpersonal and intercultural interaction. Therefore, students must have certain knowledge (for example, knowledge of language means) and skills (use the formulas of verbal communication, formulate their point of view, etc.), as well as be able to correlate linguistic means with specific situations of intercultural speech communication. The solution of this complex, "global" task occurs during the entire period of teaching a foreign language at a university and requires the use of rational and effective approaches and technologies, forms and methods of teaching. In this context, it is customary to talk about the use of new information and communication technologies, active teaching methods, and a differentiated approach. However, the "basic element" is the methods and techniques of teaching a foreign language, which the teacher uses in the classroom, working directly with students. Knowledge and possession of language means by students, their use in communication depends on how effectively this material was presented, consolidated, worked out. Purpose of the study: The realities of the modern world order explain the increasing interest in learning a foreign language and require a search for ways and means of intensifying the educational process. The concept of modernization of the Russian higher education system requires the use of technologies that ensure the differentiation and individualization of education (the Ministry of Education). Methodology: Cultural approach. Basis: axiology-the study of values and value structure of the world. It is conditioned by the objective connection of a person with culture as a value system. The game is focused on group activity, which fully meets the needs of modern methods. It is also easily transformed into various forms of individual activity, giving every student an opportunity to try himself in a particular role to show individual abilities. Results: The goal of teaching foreign languages at the present stage is not a language system, but foreign language speech activity, and not by itself, but as a means of intercultural interaction. Using educational games allows you to apply the language material creatively, turn foreign language classes into a process of communication, discussion, research. The article is devoted to educational gaming technologies and their application in foreign language lessons. The functions and value of play forms of education in the educational process are revealed in a foreign language. Particular attention is paid to the classification of language and speech games. Based on the analysis of existing classifications, the authors propose their own classification, focusing on creative and role-playing games in foreign language lessons. The article also considers introduction of the scientific approaches of different authors to the problem of game as teaching method that activates the cognitive activity of students in the learning process and thus provides a means of intensification of the educational process

In teaching French as a foreign language, there is a constant development from traditional methods to action-oriented approaches. This development has arisen as a result of students' needs and of innovations in technology. Particularly in the last decade, there has been increasing interest in teaching foreign languages to children. Because of this increasing interest, much is expected from teachers in particular. The educators who will teach a foreign language to children should be trained with a system that children learn languages in a way physically and mentally different than adults do. In this study, it was emphasized that French as a foreign language should be taught to children using games, which are classroom activities. A field study in teaching foreign languages was conducted with first-year students who were in their secondary stage of primary education, aged from 10 to 11 and learning A1 level French.
Improving Teaching and Learning Process Through Language Games

Teaching and learning process in the classroom tends to be boring. This happened especially in EFL classroom where the students are not fully aware on the material given. Boring class will also happen when teacher brings very difficult or advance material. In fact, this matter will affect the process itself. This problem can be solved through the usage of games in the classroom. Games can be regarded as entertainment during lesson, media to deliver the material, tool for exercise and assignment, and technique to enhance student’s learning. There are four (4) games delivered in this workshop. They are hot potato, big and small number, tic-tac-toe, and chaining the story. These four games are introduced to the instructors of English Transmigration Village in Mandastana, Barito Kuala. The result of this workshop are the instructors enjoyed the activities, they deliberately asking the actual implementation of the games on the classroom, and they have improved their teaching ability.
Language Games as a Part of Edutainment

Teaching English through games is one of the best ways to provide entertainment when learning a language. Hence, this study aims at investigating what primary school children think about learning a language through games, and finding out whether there is congruence between the children's and English language teachers' perspectives about the issue. 121 5th grade learners and 60 language teachers were asked to complete a 23-item questionnaire about different aspects of using games in language classes. The results revealed mostly positive opinions about the issue and there are statistically significant differences between learners' and teachers' ideas on several points.
