It also determined the experiences of public school teachers in using digital technology in preparing lessons and instructional materials, delivering instruction, assessing students' competencies, and administrative work. The study was conducted in the municipalities of Quezon, Alabat, and Perez; all are located in Alabat Island, Quezon province in the Philippines. In total, 161 public elementary and 115 public secondary teachers participated in this study. Data were gathered through a questionnaire designed by the researcher and validated by education and information technology experts. Findings show that respondents oftentimes utilize digital devices, productivity software, and messaging and social media platforms; while digital learning applications, learning management systems, electronic learning resources, and online meeting platforms are sometimes used. The teachers are highly competent at creating digital material. They are moderately competent in information and digital literacy, online safety, and problem solving; and less competent at communication and collaboration. Furthermore, a significant difference was noted between elementary and secondary school teachers' competencies in communication and collaboration, as well as in digital content development. Regarding information and digital literacy, online safety, and problem-solving, no significant difference in the teachers' competencies was noted. Finally, the respondents frequently experienced the use of digital technologies in creating lessons and instructional materials, delivering instruction, assessing student competencies, and administrative works.
Development of Digital Competence in Secondary Education Teachers' Training
Education Sciences, 2020
Digital competence is one of the eight key competences for lifelong learning developed by the European Commission, and is a requisite for personal fulfilment and development, active citizenship, social inclusion, and employment in a knowledge society. To accompany young learners in the development of competence, and to guarantee optimal implementation of information and communication technologies (ICTs), it is necessary that teachers are, in turn, literate. We had 43 secondary school teachers in initial training to assess their own level of competence in 21 sub-competences in five areas identified by the DIGCOMP project, using the rubrics provided in the Common Digital Competence Framework for Teachers (Spanish Ministry of Education). Overall, pre-service teachers' conceptions about their level of digital competence was low (Initial). Students scored highest in information, which refers mostly to the operations they performed while being students. Secondly, in safety and communication, excluding protection of digital data and preservation of digital identity. Lowest values were achieved in content creation and problem solving, the dimensions most closely related with the inclusion of ICTs to transform teaching-learning processes. The knowledge or skills they exhibit are largely self-taught and, so, we perceive an urgent need to purposefully incorporate relational and didactic aspects of ICT integration.
Digital technology and teachers' competence for its application in the classroom
Research in Pedagogy, 2016
The subject of the research is focused on questioning teachers' attitudes in reference to using ICT competencies in the classroom, considering the gender, years of service and education, while the problem of the research concerns the question: What are the teachers' attitudes in reference to using ICT competencies in the classroom? Regarding to the previously defined subject and problem, the aim of this research is to question the attitudes of teachers-reflective practitioners in reference to using ICT competencies in the classroom considering the gender, years of service and the education. The teachers' attitudes in reference to using ICT competencies in the modern teaching, in the teaching practice research and for self-development were examined by using the Likert scale which consists of 31 items, especially constructed for the need of this research. The research included 100 primary school teachers with various years of service from the city of Nis (N=100). The results showed that there are no statistically significant differences in reference to the variables: gender, years of service and the education concerning the teachers' attitudes towards importance of using ICT competencies in the classroom. They are mostly considered to be insufficient. Thus, the respondents recognize the need and the importance of using ICT in preparation and teaching realization and they consider it as an important part of their professional development.

Digital competencies of Peruvian teachers in basic education
Frontiers in Education, 2022
Digital teaching competence is directly related to the knowledge, use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Its use in educational contexts and processes seeks to integrate technology and pedagogy. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the level of Digital Teaching Competencies (DTCs) possessed by basic education (BE) teachers in different Peruvian schools and their comparison by competency area, considering sociodemographic factors. The research responds to a quantitative methodological approach. A non-experimental design of a comparative descriptive type was used, and a non-probabilistic purposeful sampling was applied. A total of 3,142 BE teachers participated in the study, including the educational levels of preschool (0–5 years), primary school (6–11 years), and Secondary school (12–16 years), belonging to public institutions located in rural and urban areas of the province of Arequipa (Peru). The instrument developed in the European Framework of Digital Competence, DigCompEdu Check-In, was applied. This instrument aimed to measure teachers’ level of competence in the digital domain. The main results show that a more significant number of teachers present an Integrator competence level (B1), followed by the Expert level (B2), and the Explorer level (A2). Furthermore, low percentages are observed in the most advanced leadership levels, Leader (C1) and Pioneer (C2), in the use of ICTs. The results obtained suggest implementing new strategies to improve DTCs. Based on critical conceptions, technology constitutes an essential tool for education in the twenty first century.
