Knowledge, attitude and perception of University students toward COVID-19 pandemic

Background: An increasing rate of COVID-19 cases throughout the world has increased the need to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and perception (KAP) of university students toward the COVID-19 pandemic to prevent its rapid spread as public cooperation and awareness regarding prevention is the only way to deal with this pandemic. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted in Pakistan in April 2020. Data was collected by Google statistics and percent reliability was calculated through SPSS. Results: The number of respondents n=678, out of which 443(65.2%) were female and 235(34.85%) were male. The perception of students regarding this disease is shown in a table in which 33.2% of students consider it very dangerous. 54.2% thought it moderately dangerous. 62.38% of students consider muscle pain and 73.59% of students consider throat pain as a clinical presentation of COVID-19. 80.7% of students thought that exposure to a suspected case of COVID-19 serves as a means of acquiring COVID- 19 infection. The most effective measure of prevention comes out to be hand washing and covering face during coughing and sneezing. The main cause of the spread is a lack of public awareness and cooperation. Social media campaigns are an effective means of educating students about quarantine and controlling its rapid spread. Conclusion: Researchers concluded that It’s the need of the hour to increase awareness related to protective hygienic measures, rapid spread, and providing reliable approaches through social media campaigns to manage this pandemic. We believe that students should be involved in educating their surrounding society.

Survey on Knowledge, Attitude, Perception and Practice among University Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Background: The numbers of infections and death by COVID-19 have continued to rise worldwide and preventive practice has remained to be one of the most effective ways to prevent it. We conducted this study to survey the knowledge, attitude, perception and practice of university students during the early stage of the pandemic in Bangladesh. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 305 students from Rajshahi University, conducted between March 11 and March 19, 2020. We developed a questionnaire for collecting information regarding COVID-19 following the instructions and guidelines of WHO and used frequency distribution, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis (non-parametric) tests for data analysis. BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global public health problem and has evolved to become a pandemic crisis around the world, which is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome, coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In response to this serious situation, COVID-19 was declared as a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization (WHO) on January 30 and called for collaborative efforts of all countries to prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19.Somaliland reported the territory's first two cases of coronavirus on TuesdayMar 31, 2020. Health officials in the capital, Hargeisa, said samples taken from two individuals-a local man who visited Britain and a Chinese man-had tested positive for COVID-19. METHOD:A cross-sectional online survey was conducted fromMay to July 2020 among 270 Participants University of Hargeisa students using the Google form platform. Respondents were in a positive attitude and the survey revealed that 91.9% of participants agree that the Coronavirus disease is dangerous, and 94.4% had more frequent practices such as washing hands often, Avoiding touching the eyes, nose and mouth, throwing the tissues in the trash after use, using masking to cover my nose in crowded places, All of the above regarding COVID-19 prevention. The p value is constant because all students they have adequate knowledge of coronavirus as its pandemic disease. General public awareness, knowledge and attitude toward COVID-19 infection and prevention: a cross-sectional study from Pakistan

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the knowledge, perceptions, and attitude of the public in Pakistan (using social media) towards COVID-19. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted amongst 1120 individuals nationwide. A self-developed, pre-tested questionnaire was used that comprised of sections covering demographic characteristics, medical history, hygiene awareness, COVID-19-related knowledge, and learning attitude. Descriptive statistics were used for frequencies, percentages, averages and standard deviations. Inferential statistics were done using the Student’s t-test and ANOVA. Results: The average age of participants was 31 years (range 18-60 years). In total 56 individuals (5%) had completed primary or secondary school education; 448 (40%) were employed (working from home) and 60% were jobless due to the COVID-19 crisis. Knowledge and Practice towards COVID-19 among Students of Al-Bayan University

Introduction: On 12 March 2020, world health organization (WHO) declared that COVID-19 was a global pandemic when more than million humans were infected in more than 200 countries in less than four months. To limit its spread, WHO recommended preventive measures such as hand washing frequently, social distancing, and face mask wearing. Public knowledge and practice towards the disease is important. Aim of study: We assess the level of knowledge and practices towards COVID-19 among students in Al-Bayan University. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted to gather information regarding the COVID-19 related knowledge and practices among undergraduates. This survey was conducted between October 10 till October 15,2020. Results:351 students were participated from medical and non-medical colleges by completing the questionnaire online. The overall correct answer rate of the knowledge questionnaire was 85.71% and 86.22% of them practicing preventive measures according to WHO guidelines and instructions of ministry of health(MOH). There were no significant differences in knowledge and practices between medical and non-medical. Conclusion: The students have moderate knowledge and appropriate practices towards COVID-19, this indicates the success and the efficacy of the of campaigns and the advertisements announced by WHO and the local MOH.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Efforts are being made all over the world to raise awareness in order to prevent the disease from spreading. The purpose of this study was to assess undergraduate healthcare students' attitudes, perceptions, and knowledge of COVID-19 disease. We conducted a cross- sectional survey in which a questionnaire with 12 questions was transformed online on Google forms and distributed online to healthcare students. Data was collected between May and June of 2021. The convenience sampling technique was used, resulting in a sample size of 926 people. A total of 926 individual questionnaires were evaluated. Knowledge, attitude and preventive practices related to COVID-19: a cross-sectional study in two Pakistani university populations

Objective The aim of this study was to assess COVID-19-related knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices of two Pakistani university populations. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among students and employees of two higher education institutions in Lahore, Pakistan, namely the University of Lahore and the Gulab Devi Educational Complex. Participants were recruited using a convenient sampling method. A validated 45-item, self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Total possible scores were 0-14 for knowledge (scores < 7, 7-10 and > 10 were considered to indicate poor, moderate and good knowledge, respectively); 0-7 for attitude (scores > 5 were considered to indicate a good attitude); and 0-18 for COVID-19 preventative practices (scores > 12 were considered to indicate good preventative practices). Results Of the 417 enrolled participants, 416 reported that they were aware of COVID-19 and social media was the major source of their information. Mean scores were 10.12 ± 2.20 for knowledge (good, moderate and poor knowledge in 50.2%, 42.8% and 7.0% of participants, respectively); 5.74 ± 1.28 for attitude (65.4% of individuals had a positive attitude); and 11.04 ± 3.34 for COVID-19 preventative practices (only 36.5% of participants had good preventive practices). Conclusion Pakistani university students and employees have good knowledge and attitudes regarding COVID-19, but unsatisfactory preventive practices. Therefore, health regulators should use multiple communication approaches, such as electronic, print and social media, phone messages, etc., to increase awareness and improve practices related to COVID-19.
