The Study on Impact Factors of Smartphone Addiction among Adolescence in Bangladesh

This study aimed to examine at Smartphone addiction characteristics, and also the predictive factors of the Smartphone addiction at school students in Bangladesh. This study explores the use and role of smart phones among adolescence in Bangladeshi school students. Four main categories are used to examine the students' mobile phone use: reasons to use mobile phones, model of mobile phone use, duration to use Smartphone, and psychometric behaviourrelated issues. It is evident from this study that mobile phone effects on adolescence. The numbers of data for this study have been collected both from primary and secondary sources of information. A total of 1000 participants were preferred to complete a set of questionnaires, including the Smartphone Addiction Inventory Scale SPAI the in the Bengali and English language both. SPSS 22 was used to descriptive and factor analyses, t-tests and correlation analyses were conducted to verify the reliability and validity of the SPAI. Bartlett's test of sphericity was significant (p <0.001), and the Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy for the SPAI was 0.94, indicating meritoriously that the factor analysis was appropriate. The internal consistency and concurrent validity of the SPAI were verified (Cronbach's alpha = 0.973).There were 694 males and 306 females with ages ranging from 10 to 18years old (M-16.2 Male, M-16.8 Female) included in this study. According to the Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale scores, 296 (29.6%) were classified as a risk group for Smartphone addiction and 714 (71.4%) were recognized as a standard user group. The risk group for Smartphone addiction used a Smartphone for an average of 5 hour per day, which was 1 hour longer than that of the normal user group. This difference was statistically significant (χ2= 14.017, p≤ 0.001). The most frequently used SNSs were Facebook Messenger (10.4%) and Web media surfing 67.1% which is significant factor.

Patterns of Use and Dependency on Smartphone by the Bangladeshi Urban Youths

The smartphone is one of the most popular new communication devices amongst urban youths in Bangladesh. The youths use smartphones for multiple purposes including to remain updated with the flow of information, access entertainment content, and maintain communication with friends and social acquaintances. Besides, as this study finds, the youths consider smartphones as a trendy device in their social life. This research saw how Bangladeshi urban youths were influenced by smartphones. From a theoretical standpoint, the uses and gratification theory has been applied to analyze various aspects of smartphone usage by young users. The researchers conducted a survey with a structured questionnaire among 100 smartphone users based in Dhaka and its suburb Savar area. There were three key findings: i) youths spend maximum hours of the total time they spent with the smartphone in a day] by browsing through the cyberspace, predominantly on social networking sites; ii) youths consider ownership of smartphone as well as access to the internet through it as an integral instrument to achieve their goals; and iii) excessive use of smartphone creates a dependency on the device, leading towards addiction to this gadget.

Smartphone Addiction among the higher secondary School Students

This study explores the prevalence of smartphone addiction among higher secondary school students in the Chennai and Thiruvalluvar regions of Tamil Nadu, India. The researchers employed a normative survey method to gather data, utilizing an online gaming addiction tool designed specifically for this investigation. The sample for the study comprised 780 higher secondary school students, and the collected data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation (S.D), and 't' value statistics. The findings of this research indicate that, on average, smartphone addiction among higher secondary school students is prevalent. Interestingly, the level of smartphone addiction showed a significant difference based on gender, suggesting that there may be variations in usage patterns and dependency among male and female students. However, the study did not find significant differences in smartphone addiction when comparing students from different localities within Chennai and Thiruvalluvar, implying that the issue is widespread across the studied regions.

Smartphone Use and Addiction among Secondary School Students in Kuantan, Malaysia

Background: Smartphone addiction has become a social problem in Malaysia as smartphone users increase drastically. Previous study revealed that smartphone addiction has a negative effect on the physical and psychosocial of a human being. Aims: This study aims to examine smartphone use and addiction among secondary school students. Methods: A cross-sectional study was employed involving 203 secondary school children at a secondary school in Malaysia. Nowadays, addiction refers to those technological items as well as drugs, alcohol, sex and so on. The repetitive or habitual use of any such mentioned categories can lead to addiction. Addiction can also be interpreted as a stage in the behaviour of a person without which life is not possible. The 21st century is overloaded with information at the finger point. The arrival of smartphone made the access to internet more frequent. This easy accessibility leads to the sudden increase of mobile phone addiction.

Awareness of Smartphone Addiction inUrban Teenagers

Smartphone has become a crucial part of the teenage life. The era has changed from playground games to digital games; therefore, it is essential to evaluate the awareness of smartphone addiction in urban teenagers. A sample size of n=158 in the age group of 13-19 years was chosen and evaluated on basis of Smartphone Addiction Scaleshort Version (SAS-SV). This scale helps to study the self-awareness among adolescents about their smartphone addiction. Percentage analysis of the data was done. The results obtained from the study indicated that there was about 50% addiction among teenagers and about 22% were at the risk of addiction due to their high scores. Hence, the need of the hour is to create awareness about the same, so as to curb the effects of addiction before establishment of ill-effects. The population which is addicted should also be targeted with rehabilitation.

Factors influencing the Smartphone Addiction among Students of the North Central Province in Sri Lanka

Technology becomes a part of the human life and it has significantly changed cultural norms of behavior of individuals. One of the popular applications of the technology is the smartphone and it has affected work of students' behavior. Therefore, the objective of this study is to identify the factors influencing the smartphone addiction among school children of the North Central province in Sri Lanka. A well administrated questionnaire is prepared based on the previous literature with constructs of Usefulness, Loneliness, Family Income Level, Gender and Addiction to Smart Phone. 140 respondents were selected using purposive sampling technique for data collection and analysis indicates that all the independent variables positively affect the addiction to smart phone. Loneliness and gender of students is having higher impact on the addiction. The advancement of technology severs to the growth of the children's educations, but parents have to place much attention to the use of technology by their children because addiction of smartphone would reduce their children's academic performance. The addiction of technology such as smartphones would be reduced when students are trained to think rationally from their childhood.

Patterns of Smartphone Use Among Young Indians

The purpose of the present study was to identify smartphone use patterns in daily lives associated with the gender of users among adolescents and young adults. Using a cross-sectional ex-post facto design to analyze data obtained from a nationwide survey on smartphone addiction conducted in 2020 on 2000 participants (1000 boys and 1000 girls) of age range 16-30 yrs. from various educational institutes of the urban and rural areas of eight cities of Uttar Pradesh by the researches under IMPRESS sponsored Project, New Delhi following all ethical standards. The findings indicate differential patterns and preferences among users. Thirteen percent of the sample met the criteria for smartphone overuse. The odds of smartphone overuse significantly increased with frequent smartphone use and multipurpose preferences for the device. Males were found to overuse their smartphones, Girls perceived their SP as fun and useful tool whereas boys considered it as a distraction and can’t live without itin children who used a smartphone for more than two hours per day. Finding also divulges suggestions for other activities as possible alternatives to smartphone use, and strategies to strengthen self-regulation and engagement strategies with regard to smartphone use
