Comparative Study of Using Drama and Simulation Techniques Toward Students’ Speaking Ability
UAD TEFL International Conference, 2017
Speaking is one of the productive skills in English. It acts as an important skill which becomes a depiction of students' result in studying English. Oftentimes, English ability is measured by their speaking because it serves a tool of communication which represents the major interaction with other people. But in fact, the condition of a learning process in a sphere of speaking has not supported students to master speaking ability yet. The application of techniques and methods are actually not interesting enough to attract them. Students tend to be passive when they are in learning about material related to speaking. The objectives of this research are; to find out students' speaking score by applying drama technique; to find out students' score by using simulation technique; to find out whether the drama is better than simulation technique in increasing students' speaking ability. The population of this research is 37 students in the fourth semester of English Depart...
Improving Students 'Confidence in Speaking Through Simulation Method
Jurnal Smart, 2020
The aim of this study is to improve students' confidence in speaking (Speaking) through Simulation methods for grade 9.1 students at SMP Negeri 3 Pringsewu. The data analysis technique uses a comparative descriptive analysis. After being given treatment in cycle I and II there were 31 (86%) students who had high self-confidence, 3 (8.4%) students of the total number of students who had low self-confidence, and 2 (5.6%) students of the total who still had low self-confidence.
Improving Speaking skill by Using Modeling Strategy at the Grade Ten Students of SMK NMC Malang
JEELL (Journal of English Education, Linguistics and Literature)
This study is aimed at developing strategy to improve the speaking skill of grade ten students SMK NMC Malang through modeling strategy. Modeling strategy is the strategy of giving examples, actions, and demonstrations of a certain topic in teaching speaking. The teacher should give a model how to practice the dialogue. This strategy is implemented in two cylces classroom action research (CAR), the researcher teaches the students while the teacher of the school act as the observer. The analysis of data uses qualitative and quantative data. The qualitative data are obtained from the observation sheet and field notes. The quantitative data are obtained through the observation checklist of the students’ involvement, tests, and questionnaire. The finding of this study indicated that the implementation of modeling strategy has improved the students’ speaking skill and the students’ learning motivation. It is also revealed that the students’ achievement of the second test with mean score ...
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of the simulated environment in improving Speaking Skills of grade nine Students at Banmbasi General Secondary and preparatory school. A quasi-experimental design was employed to test the hypothesis that state the formation simulated environment in EFL classrooms would enhance students' speaking abilities. The study comprises 60 participants. Two classes were purposefully selected for the study and assigned as control and experimental groups. The participants were given speaking proficiency test as pretests at the beginning of the experiment. The experimental group was taught through a simulated environment; while the control group was treated the same unit in the conventional mode; where the environments were not simulated. After the treatment, the two groups were post tested. The independent sample T-test was employed to find out if the results obtained from the tests was statistically significant or not. Accordingly, the results show that mean scores of students in the experimental group exceeded the control group during their posttest and the difference was statistically significant at (t = 2.46, p<0.05). That is, the mean score of the experimental group in posttest (x= 16.80) surpasses the mean score of the control group (x= 15.45). Based on these results, the alternative hypothesis (H2) which was stated as there is statistically significant difference between the mean score of grade students in the experimental and control groups in their speaking skill due to the presence of simulated environment was accepted whilst the null hypothesis rejected. For much pedagogical practice, the results of this study indicated that integrative teaching of language simulations into the EFL classroom would play a vital role in producing positive output. Overall, the results of the tests showed the positive potential about the effectiveness of the simulated environment on the improvements students' speak ability of the target language. As a result, the ministry of education, syllabus designers, local English book writers and ELT are recommended to simulate the language environment based on simulations principle into Ethiopian EFL classrooms of different grade level.

AN INVESTIGATION OF EFFECTIVENESS OF SIMULATION IN DEVELOPING ORAL SKILLS: A CASE STUDY
Abstract One of the foremost challenges that confront English language teachers is the use of innovative and practical teaching techniques to make their students learn effectively and efficiently. Much research has offered deep insights into the fact that the power of simulation can transpose the normal classroom into an authentic setting where language skills can be taught under more realistic conditions. The rationale and purpose behind this research study was to implement this modern technique of simulation in English language teaching to freshman students of pharmacy. The sample of this study comprised of the whole population of freshman pharmacy students at Taif University. The experimental group was taught by using integrated simulation activities in their English language classes. The control group was taught without this innovation. The pre-intervention and post-intervention scores have been analyzed that have clearly reported that the experimental group out-performed the control group in their oral communication. But the results of both the groups in their listening skills quizzes have not showed significant differences. The research suggests that ELT faculty members should use this innovative teaching technique especially in their oral communication classes. Keywords: Simulation, role play, innovation, oral skills
