An Analysis of Electric Vehicle Trends in Developed Nations: A Sustainable Solution for India

Electric Vehicles (EVs) have been revived since the late 1990s due to environmental causes and breakthroughs in battery technology. As a result, the EV markets in developed nations evolved to compete with conventional combustion engine vehicles. However, there is a need to reduce the global carbon emissions, which recently crossed the 400 ppm threshold permanently. EVs are proposed as a realistic solution and a necessity to mitigate the eects of global warming. This solution should be expanded to highly populated developing countries that contributes to over 63 percent of the global emissions to develop a zero carbon transport infrastructure. ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN INDIA: POLICY IMPLICATION, CHALLENGES AND COST SAVINGS
India is urbanising at a very fast rate and consequently its mobility needs are growing exponentially. This prolific growth of automobiles is increasing the fuel import bill as well as severely polluting the environment. A shift to Electric Vehicles (EV) from Internal Combustion Engine vehicles (ICE) is the way out of this problem. Accordingly, the Indian EV market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 94.4% from 2021 to 2030. In this paper we have made our analysis based on aspects includes a brief policy review and a comparison cost between EV and Internal Combustion Engine vehicles. In order to promote the sale of EVs in the Indian market, the government has launched the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles) scheme in India, as part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020, under which, the government will provide certain incentives to lower the purchasing cost of electric vehicles. The policy framework proposes both fiscal and non-fiscal measures to promote EVs in India. The EV sector in India faces infrastructural and financial challenges as well as shortages of raw materials for batteries. It is found that adoption of EVs in the 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler personalized vehicle segment can lead to substantial fuel cost, maintenance cost and CO2 emissions cost savings.

India is one of the largest automobile market in the world. Due to large numbers of automobiles are being used and growing sales of automobiles year-on-year. The fuel consumption increasing due to rising number of automobiles and energy demand of India; it is raising dependency on oil imports, expenses of foreign oil imports, emission issues etc. This all needs a sustainable mobility solution. Electric vehicles (EVs) are aligned with emobility and economic goals of the nation and strategic goal to reduce foreign crude oil dependency as well as emission/environmental issues. To mitigate the effects of global warming and the real solution can be provided by EVs. This paper highlights the present scenario and progress of EVs in India.

The topic for our study is Electric vehicles and the factors which are responsible for their slow growth. We are particularly emphasizing more on its development of electric vehicles and the scope of growth in India. The study also lays down the challenges that electric vehicles as a product are facing. The fact that electric vehicle is recently a global product and a sector that accounts for 16% of global emissions with fewer carbon emissions but still in India the growth is not as exponential as should be and hence the market of the electric vehicle sector is facing challenges in placing the product into population sight. This paper discusses the alternatives for Improving the trend and also establishing a market for electric vehicles in India. Electric Vehicle is a very great alternative for sustainable transportation in a country like India. Our Nation can promote this concept for a better and greener Environment and this study will help us find out the pain points where this sector is lacking In India.

For the transportation sector, vehicle electrification is a game changer due to major energy and environmental implications driven by high vehicle efficiency i.e. EVs are approximately 3-4 times more efficient than comparable internal combustion engines vehicles (ICEV), zero tailpipe emissions, and reduced petroleum dependency as great fuel diversity and flexibility exist in electricity production. Far-reaching implications for vehicle grid integration extend to the electricity sector and to the broader energy system. The Indian Government is also planning to increase the electric vehicle in the automobile industries. In this paper the future and challenges of the electric vehicles in Indian market is discussed. The different factors like economic, social, technical and environmental which are affecting the electric vehicles market in India are discussed in this paper. The battery and infrastructure development are related to economic and technological factors. Based on the challenges, recommendations are made and it also helps to promote the market growth of electric vehicles.

Electrical Vehicles can be considered as an essential option for reducing greenhouse gases emission in transport sector. Electrical Vehicles reduces the dependency on fossil fuels such as diesel, petrol etc , also it promotes large scale renewable deployment. However there are various barriers against electrical vehicles in Indian scenario which need to be overcome. This paper provides a general overview on EVs and analysis of barriers against the use of EVs in India. There are some essential barriers such as lack of charging facilities, higher price of EVs as compared to internal combustion vehicles and poor long term planning. So when renewable sources are not available, special features of EVs are mandatory for their operation.

Greenhouse gas emission, fast depletion of fossil fuels, the oil crisis and the increased cost of petroleum products are the major factors that need a shift from internal combustion engines to Electric Vehicles. The use of electric cars is an active action in conserving the environment. The use of these cars promotes the protection of the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions while promoting renewable energy sources that are less likely to amount to the carbon footprint. Electric cars function by plugging into a charge point and taking electricity from the grid. They store the electricity in rechargeable batteries that power an electric motor, which turns the wheels. Electric cars accelerate faster than vehicles with traditional fuel engines so they feel lighter to drive. India launched "National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020" in 2013, which aims promotion of hybrid and EVs in the country to achieve national energy security. Even after this the total sales of EV's in India was only about 0.0068% of the total sales of vehicles in India. Increasing long-term gasoline price and concerns on the impact of emissions have inspired alternative technologies like electric vehicles (EVs). The automotive manufacturers are facing difficulties in understanding the needs and wants of the customer. This research aims at helping the automobile manufacturers to understand the customer better. The insights gained from this research will help policymakers around the world in crafting transportation and energy policies in the EV transportation system. Lack of study on this topic in India is the reason for a gap in consumer adoption and scientific research EVs. Filling that gap is the motive of this research overall, this project involves processes like design, analysis, fabrication and assembling of different components.
