Sağlıklı bireylerde ve protez stomatitli hastalarda oral candida dubliniensis'in sıklığı (original) (raw)
Prevalence of Candida dubliniensis among healty individuals and patients with denture stomatitis Candida dubliniensis, which is phenotipically closely related to Candida albicans, was first described in 1995 in Dublin. It has been frequently isolated from oral samples of patients infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and other body sides. In this study, it has been investigated whether C. dubliniensis existed among C. albicans strains isolated from the oral samples 45 healthy and 36 patients with denture stomatitis in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Dentistry, Marmara University between the period of 1997-2003 from oral samples of healthy individuals and patients with denture stomatitis. 81 strains isolated as C. albicans was performed retrospectively for C. dubliniensis according to the germ tube and chlamydospor formation, colony morphology on CHROMagar Candida, and growth profiles obtained by Sabouraud dextrose agar at 37 °C, 42 °C and 47 °C. Molecular methods have been performed for identification, as well. When literature and our findings are evaluted, it has been concluded that resuts of the identification of C. dubliniensis via genotypic method is not convenient with results obtained by phenotypic methods. In genotypic evaluation, it has been found that 4 of 45 strains that were isolated from healty people, have been identified as C. dubliniensis. None of the 36 strains that were isolated from patients with denture stomatitis have been identified as C. dubliniensis. It has been concluded that C. dubliniensis is not effective in the pathogenesis of denture stomatitis, and futhermore epidemiological studies are needed.
