Clinical Setting Related Stressors Perceived By Medical Surgical Nursing Students
Clinical training and experience incorporate a great deal with stress for nursing students. Various researches incorporate that the most common sources of nursing student's stressors are interaction with patients, dealing with a new environment, fatigue, being evaluated from instructors and availability of resources. Aim of the study to assess the sources of stress perceived by medical surgical nursing student who are firstly contacted with patient in medical surgical clinical settingand investigate the relationship between level of stressors and the student's demographic characters. Research design: A descriptive correlational research design was utilized. Setting: The study was carried out at Matrouh general hospital (medical and surgical nursing units). Subjects: consisted of 88 male and female medical surgical nursing students who met the inclusion criteria. Tool of the study: Stressors perceived by medical surgical nursing students at clinical setting assessment questionnaire was used to collect data. Conclusion: The study revealed that the most extremely stressors perceived by medical surgical nursing students that they are students in nature. Therefore, they are not trusted from patients and their families. In addition to, exposure to contagious or infectious diseases, physical hospital environment followed by being in emergency situation.

Amaç: Bu çalışma Türk hemşirelik lisans öğrencilerinin eğitimleri sırasında yaşadıkları stres düzeylerini ve stresi etkileyebilecek bazı sosyodemografik değişkenleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Yöntemler: Araştırma tanımlayıcı kesitsel olarak 821 öğrenci ile yapılmıştır. Veriler, bilgi formu ve Hemşirelik Eğitimi Stres Ölçeği (Stress in Nurse Education Questionnaire-SINE) ile toplanmıştır. Bulgular: SINE'nin alt boyutları olan akademik stres ve uygulama stresi toplam puan ortalamaları birbirine yakın olmasına karşın akademik stres biraz daha yüksek çıkmıştır. Klinik stresle ilgili de acı çeken bir hastayı izlemek en çok stres yaratan durum olarak belirlenmiştir. Klinik uygulamada öğretim elemanı tarafından eleştirilmek ve bakım verirken hata yapma korkusu öğrencilerin en çok raporladığı diğer klinik stres faktörleri arasındadır. Öğrencilerin okudukları okullara, cinsiyete göre ve algılanan akademik başarıya göre SINE toplam ve alt boyutları puan ortalamaları arasındaki farkın anlamlı olduğu bulunmuştur (p<0,001). Sonuç: Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin akademik stresleri arasında en çok sınavlara hazırlanmak, sınavlara girmek ve değerlendirilme endişesi gelmektedir. Klinik stresleri olarak acı çeken bir hastayı izlemek, öğretim elemanı tarafından eleştirilmek ve bakım verirken hata yapma korkusu belirlenmiştir. Being criticized by an instructor in clinic practice and fear of making a mistake while providing care were among other clinic stressors mostly reported by students. The difference between average subdimension and total scores for SINE according to universities in which students studied, gender, and perceived academic achievement was found to be significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Preparing for exams, sitting for exams, and anxiety for being evaluated were the major academic stressors of nursing students. Monitoring a suffering patient, being criticized by an instructor, and fear of making a mistake while providing care were determined as clinic stressors.
Factor influencing stress among nursing students of faculty of nursing during clinical practice

The purposes of this descriptive research were: (1) to study the stress of nursing student during clinical practice and (2) to explore the factor that influencing stress in nursing students during clinical practice. The research sample comprised of 158 nursing students who were enrolled to the clinical practicum courses in General Hospital. Questionnaires were used for collect the data. It consisted of three parts: (1) demographic data, (2) the nursing students’ opinion regarding the preparation for clinical practice, environment of clinical setting, and preceptor and 3) the stress of nursing student during clinical practice. These questionnaires were tested for validity and reliability. The Cronbach’s coefficients alpha of part 2 and 3 were 0.80, 0.71, 0.82 and 0.94 respectively. Work-related Stress and Most Common Stressors for Surgical Nurses

Aim: The objective of this research was to determine the stress level in nurses at the Department of Surgery, Clinical Hospital Osijek, and to identify the most common stressors. Methods: The research included 105 nurses, 29 (28%) were men and 76 (72%) of them were women. It was conducted anonymously, by standardized questionnaire Occupational Stress Questionnaire for Hospital Health Care Workers. Results: The total scale of stress was 3.2 (interquartile range from 2.6 to 3.7) with no significant differences by gender. The results showed no statistically significant differences in the level of stress in terms of age, total length of service and level of education. The most common stressors in surgical nurses are insufficient number of employees, work overload, administrative work, a 24-hour responsibility, inappropriate public criticism, fear of infection, conflict with superiors, night and overtime work and pressure of set deadlines. Assessment of nursing students' stress levels and coping strategies in operating room practice

The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress levels and stress coping strategies of nursing students in their first operating room experience. This descriptive study was done with 126 nursing students who were having an experience in an operating room for the first time. Data were collected by using Personal Information Form, Clinical Stress Questionnaire, and Styles of Coping Inventory. The nursing students mostly had low clinical stress levels (M ¼ 27.56, SD ¼ 10.76) and adopted a self-confident approach in coping with stress (M ¼ 14.3, SD ¼ 3.58). The nursing students generally employed a helpless/selfaccusatory approach among passive patterns as their clinical stress levels increased, used a selfconfident and optimistic approach among active patterns as their average age increased, and those who had never been to an operating room previously used a submissive approach among passive patterns. The results showed that low levels of stress caused the nursing students to use active patterns in coping with stress, whereas increasing levels of stress resulted in employing passive patterns in stress coping. The nursing students should be ensured to maintain low levels of stress and use active patterns in stress coping.

In recent years, occupational stress has been area of research in psychology, and in the bigger areas of social and medical sciences. There also has been growing number of studies conducted on occupational stress between nurses and their coping strategies. However qualitative studies targeting specific care settings are scarce in number. That"s why this qualitative research aimed to identify the stress among nurses working in surgical care setting and elderly care setting. The Job Demands-Control (JDC) work design model and salutogenic paradigm were used as our theoretical background for this study. Our findings from this study reveal that high demand of work, shortage of staff, lack of knowledge and lack of cooperation among health professions are sources of job stress among the nurses. Also, control over work plays crucial role in the management of stress at work. This study is applicable for developing the coping mechanism and organization policies to deduce the work stress among the nurses in various caring settings. From this study we can prevent the major stress factors and promote the good stresses at work in the respective nursing settings.
Nursing students’ perceived stress and influences in clinical performance

Background: It is known that stress related to clinical training among nursing students could contribute to many physical and mental problems. However, little empirical evidence about the influence of stress in nurse students' clinical performance Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the association between perceived stresses, stress related factors, and students' clinical performance. Method: Using the perceived stress scale, 539 Jordanian nursing students from 2 public universities in Jordan participated in the study. Results: The results showed that the mean of stress perceived by students was 45.9. Students' assignment were perceived as the main source of stress (M= 10.7, SD= 4.5) followed by stress related to patients' care (M= 10.5, SD= 5.5) and stress from teachers and nursing staff (M= 9.6, SD= 5.3). The lowest source of stress is from students' lack of professional knowledge and skills (M= 3.96; SD= 2.8). The mean of students' clinical performance is 73.4%. Students' perceived stress has a significant negative correlation with students' clinical performance (r=-.09; p <.05). The results also showed significant negative correlation between stress related to lack of professional knowledge and skills, and stress related to patient care and students' clinical performance. Conclusion: This study expanded on students' stress in clinical settings, and warrants further research in assessing its impact on their performance. Teachers should be aware of and help students to overcome and cope with said stress related factors in the clinical settings effectively.

There has been increased attention in the literature about stress among nursing students. It has been evident that clinical education is the most stressful experience for nursing students. The aim of this paper was to critically review studies related to degrees of stress and the type of stressors that can be found among undergraduate nursing students during their clinical education.
