Performance of Public Universities in Pakistan: Mediating Role of Cultural Factors

The main objective of the current research is to assess the mediating role of organisational cultural between entrepreneurial orientation, structural factor and performance of public universities. The contribution of universities in the development of any country is an undeniable fact. The previous studies emphasised on such aspects, as structural factors that affect universities performance but the role of cultural factors have been ignored. The current study explores cultural factors as mediating variable between structural factors, entrepreneurial factors and performance of public universities. The current research applied a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. We developed, through an in-depth desktop research, a questionnaire that was distributed by mailed/postal survey to the randomly selected 415 respondents working in Pakistani public universities. The collected data was analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM) with the help of SmartPLS 3.2.7, a widely used data analytical tool. Out study finds that cultural factors significantly mediate the relationship between structural factors, entrepreneurial factors and performance of public universities. The university management at different level is expected to enhance competencies of conducting high quality teaching, research and contribution to wider society through utilisation of scarce resources and creating a congenial cultural environment to maximize outcome from the available strength and opportunities and overcome the weakness and challenges. The findings and recommendations are expected to add value to the current body of literature in the higher education and particular value addition will be for the Pakistani universities.

Factors that Influence the Public Sector Universities Performance in Pakistan

Measuring the Training Effectiveness in University-Industry Linkages: A Case of Pakistan

Pakistan is paying attention in advancement of Science, technology and innovation policies which helps building solid university and industry linkages. As operating cost in Pakistan is increasing constantly, so industries feel it to be going in loss. Indeed, it raises the burden on universities to swap old trends of industries with new technological and innovative skills in Industrial sector of Pakistan. The objective of this study is to identify certain aspects for the training of industrial sector through universities of the particular region. Previous literature shows low interest of university, industry and government collaboration. The study is significant as there is paucity of research work available in such sector of Pakistan. Therefore, this study is restricted to uncover limited explanations of certain aspects of university and industry linkages. A structured focus group method through different managers, technicians from industrial side and academicians from university side at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Vehari helps this study to identify certain factors that determine thriving collaboration among university and industry. In the end, a framework is suggested that helps training the employees by academicians. Implications of this study may be used in future at a higher level of university industry linkages.

Evaluating the Research Performance of Islamabad-Based Higher Education Institutes

Research discovers new knowledge, ideas, and technologies essential in driving the future of society and humanity. Without research, a relevant and modern country cannot exist. Similarly, the research output of universities and degree-awarding institutes (DAIs) plays a significant role in higher education and development of any country. Research fosters professional excellence in faculty, important for delivering outstanding student education and training. Therefore, this research is an evaluation of the research output of higher education DAIs in the capital of Pakistan. This research was conducted in four steps: (a) data collection: where the data were extracted from Scopus for the years 2008–2017; (b) data cleansing and labeling: which included removal of nonrequired contents and labeling of nonnumeric data to meaningful classes; (c) feature selection: useful features according to proposed research questions were selected; and (d) data analysis: data were analyzed according to research questions and results obtained from experiments with the help of statistical tools. It is concluded that with only 1% of country’s population and around 11% of Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) recognized universities geographically located at Islamabad Capital Territory, Islamabad-based universities and DAIs contributed 34% of the total publications of Pakistan produced during the study time period. This shows Islamabad-based universities and DAIs standing at the national level. The public sector universities shared the major portion of total publications of the studied universities. Private sector universities and DAIs shared 8% of the total publications.

In this context, concepts such as market competition and customers have become importance issues and necessity in higher education institutions. In contrast the development is the most important issues related to developing economies, especially Arab ones, and since the development beyond the concept of capital development and production to human development intellectually and scientifically, the necessity require attention to this activity, which is a fundamental pillar for the development of the economy, the higher the level of development or activation of scientific research and technological development efficiently, the higher the level of progress in the economy. The researcher study the impact of financial Fund provided by universities to Academic stuff on the competitiveness of higher education institutions expressed by the development of student numbers on one hand and the level of educational attainment for students. For this purpose, the researcher chose Zarqa University of Jordan as a model for the study. Using descriptive approach and statistical analysis program, The Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to analyse data and level of significance was set at the (0.01) level. Results of this study indicate that there is a positive relationship between scientific research support provided by Zarqa University and the competitiveness of Zarqa University.

This paper aims to measure Knowledge Management Maturity (KMM) in the universities to determine the impact of knowledge management on high performance. This study was applied on Al-Quds Open University in Gaza strip, Palestine. Asian productivity organization model was applied to measure KMM. Second dimension which assess high performance was developed by the authors. The controlled sample was (306). Several statistical tools were used for data analysis and hypotheses testing, including reliability Correlation using Cronbach’s alpha, “ANOVA”, Simple Linear Regression and Step Wise Regression.The overall findings of the current study suggest that KMM is suitable for measuring high performance. KMM assessment shows that maturity level is in level three. Findings also support the main hypothesis and it is subhypotheses. The quality education dependence upon the performance measures of the higher educational institutions. It is important to make an effort to know from the faculty about the latest happening in teaching and learning process for further improvement in higher education and how responses can be utilized for the excellent higher education system. In this regard, questionnaires have administered from the faculty members of different institutes of Punjab (India). This study extracted some factors from faculty's perception by using exploratory factor analysis, viz. Research and Staff Development, Support System, Placement & Extracurricular Activities, Digitization, Basic amenities, Student teacher interrelationship and Faculty constraint which will be beneficial for the top management,and educational planners in designing a more efficacious system that can be valuable to improve the overall productivity of higher educational institutions. Therefore, this research has emphasized that government need to concentrate on improving the enrolment of the students under NAD and need to digitize the entire examination system. For this purpose,students should join NAD on priority basis. Moreover,a proper focus will have to be given on policies and strategies to appoint high quality faculty by the academicians. Moreover, Research and innovation should become the core constituent for the transformation of our higher education. Educationist, Government and industries should collaboratively invest in research and innovations to provide world class infrastructure, facilities, library services, staff development and technology along with human resource. A survey for assessing university performance

One of the popular methods to increase the performance of educational services such as public or private universities is to make performance measurement. The people who work for an organization are normally considered as the best people to judge about the performance of a workplace since they know most existing weakness points in their workplace. The proposed study of this paper looks into a university performance in three inside, process and outside's perspectives. We design and distribute a questionnaire among 69 university professors and 295 students. In this survey, we ask them how they evaluate university in terms of different criteria such as educational and research facilities, etc. The results of our survey indicate that the university is not in good condition in terms of research activities but it has maintained good condition in terms of other perspectives such as educational, infrastructure, etc.
