Use of Mobile Technology in Education
Technology has played a significant role in changing the face of higher education. Mobile technologies are playing an increasingly important role in college students' academic lives. Devices such as Smart phones, tablets, and e-book readers connect users to the world instantly, heightening access to information and enabling interactivity with others. Applications that run on these devices, let users not only consume but also discover and produce content. As such, they continue to transform how college students learn, as well as influence their learning preferences, both within and outside the classroom. A complex relationship exists between education and technology. The learners of 21 st century live technologically integrated lives. They do not distinguish between cellular telephones, text messaging devices, cameras, internet browsers, email readers, music players and satellite navigation systems. They just carry them in their packets. Mobile learning (m-learning) is an extension of e-learning that includes the use of technology that can be carried easily in a pocket or purse, used 'on the go', turned on instantly without the need to boot up, is internet capable through a wifi connection and other features such as word processing ability, html browser, SMS messaging, camera, MPs players, GPS etc., The popularity of mobile technologies among college students is increasing dramatically. Many universities now use mobile technologies and create mobile-optimized versions of their websites or build stand-alone applications that can be downloaded from mobile application stores. This paper will help us to understand how mobile technology very much useful in the field of Education.
Mobile Technologies in the Higher Education System
Mental Enlightenment Scientific-Methodological Journal
The article examines aspects of the use of mobile technologies in the higher education system. The advantages and disadvantages of mobile learning are presented. Directions and examples of the application of various mobile services and technologies in educational activities are proposed. It is noted that in the modern educational environment there is still a limited use of mobile technologies, their use as a way to disseminate knowledge, and not as cognitive tools. Today, the most common use of mobile devices is still storing and retrieving information, teaching materials, and scheduling. Several directions of using mobile devices in the learning process have been proposed. The conclusion was made about the novelty of the application and introduction of mobile technologies in the educational environment, the prospects and potential of mobile education in education.
University of Lapland, 2016
In this study, the aim was to investigate in terms of m-learning what kinds of pedagogical knowledge and experiences teachers have and what kinds of challenges and opportunities they experience in their teaching practices. The study focused on finding out the teachers’ perspective to the following questions: according to the teachers, 1) how have they implemented mobile learning in their educational practices? 2) what kinds of knowledge and experiences have they had on m-learning? 3) what are the opportunities of m-learning? and 4) what are the main challenges to m-learning? For primary data collection, nine qualitative one-to-one interviews of teachers at the University of Lapland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Finland, were conducted. Based on content analysis of the interviews, the study revealed a lack of pedagogical knowledge and experiences, lack of supporting devices and lack of media literacy as the three main challenges for implementing mobile learning in higher education. However, teachers are highly interested in using m-learning both in their teaching and personal life. It was also found that institutions’ official platforms are not experienced by teachers taking part in this study as user friendly while other mobile learning platforms encourage students to participate actively in learning. Evidence also showed that out of the participants of this study, the older teachers were more active in m-learning than their younger counterparts. To overcome these challenges the higher education institutions and educators must rethink their current pedagogical strategies as well as how they view mobile devices and the concept of m-learning in teaching and learning. Keywords: mobile learning, m-learning, higher education, information and communication technology (ICT).
Mobile learning and university teaching
International Conference on Education and New …, 2009
Using portable computing devices (such as laptops, tablet PCs, PDAs, and smart phones) with wireless networks enables mobility and mobile learning, allowing college teaching and learning to extend to spaces beyond the traditional classroom. Within the classroom, mobile learning gives university instructors and learners increased flexibility and new opportunities for interaction. Mobile technologies can support learning experiences at the university level that are collaborative, accessible, and integrated with the world beyond the classroom educative learning initiative (Educause Learning Initiative).
MOBILE LEARNING FOR EDUCATION-BENEFITS AND CHALLENGES
In current period there has been considerable interest in the use of mobile technology in education sector in India, although the technology is still evolving in the field of education. Basically the question is why this sudden interest is emerged in India. The ownership of the mobile devices is very high and it continues to increase among students of all ages. However mobile learning's potential has yet to be fully realized. The students and teachers need technical, logistical and pedagogical or methodological support for using and integrating mobile devices and apps, but most important is individual experience in both formal and informal learning environment. The requirements of institutional changes that can be facilitate and encourage students and teachers to integrate mobile technology into day to day learning. This paper will provide overview of the use of mobile technology and mobile learning among students; discuss the benefits of mobile learning and challenges when implementing mobile learning as well as to tackle these challenged in education sector.
Mobile Learning And Higher Education
Mobile Learning And Higher Education, 2018
Mobile Learning developed from the growing capabilities and adoption of mobile devices since the late 1990s. Subsequently, mobile devices have become an indispensable tool for many, resulting in significant societal changes. However, while they have been assimilated into people's lives, higher education mobile learning initiatives typically isolate the use of these devices, and so do not reflect the way they are used by learners. This chapter seeks to make a case for the end of "Mobile Learning" as a discrete area, and argues for mobile devices to be seen as potent tools to be integrated into the wider learning ecosystem.
Mobile Computing Technology in Higher Education Mobile Computing Technology in Higher Education
Society today live in a thriving technological dependent environment. Technological development has been significantly enhanced to cater to our wants and needs in every aspect. Evidently, there has been an integration of technology into the education system particularly in higher education. There are several ways this has been done, one of the most recent ways is the implementation of mobile computing technology into higher education. This approach been meet with many negative criticisms from scholars and educators alike however through investigative research which includes surveys and experiments, the results obtained has proved their remarks baseless. Extensive research has been conducted by researchers therefore the methodology of the research plays an important and substantial role in providing proof as it is a highly debatable topic especially in how it caters to students in their learning. Mobile computing technology is generally believed to have negative consequences towards learning in higher education. However, mobile technology is improving the way we learn because we can conveniently and quickly access information with efficient learning.
A Conceptual Study on Use of Mobile Computing in Higher Education
For todays tech-savvy generation mobile devices plays vital role in every aspect of their life. The purpose of this paper is to explore the pedagogical, technical, and evaluative issues by making use of mobile computing for the various processes involved in the higher educational sector.
