A geographic information system is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of geographic data. A GIS can be thought of as a system that provides spatial data entry, management, and retrieval, analysis, and visualization functions. The implementation of a GIS is often driven by jurisdictional (such as a city), purpose, or application requirements. Generally, a GIS implementation may be custom-designed for an organization. Each and every phase of infrastructure life cycle is generally affected and enhanced by the enrollment of GIS.A Geographic Information System (GIS) having 70 layers was developed with technical help from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) through Regional Remote Sensing Centre (RRSSC), Nagpur. Using satellite data, natural resource mapping has been carried out on 1:50,000 scales based on satellite imageries and digital processing. The Chhattisgarh Infotech and biotech Promotion Society (CHIPS) has adopted a planned approach for the implementation of "Chhattisgarh GIS Project". The following key persons were involved in the successful implementation of the project.
