Smart travel guide: from internet image database to intelligent system

To help the tourist to discover a city, a region or a park, many options are provided by public tourism travel centers, by free online guides or by dedicated book guides. Nonetheless, these guides provide only mainstream information which are not conform to a particular tourist behavior. On the other hand, we may find several online image databases allowing users to upload their images and to localize each image on a map. These websites are representative of tourism practices and constitute a proxy to analyze tourism flows. Then, this work intends to answer this question: knowing what I have visited and what other people have visited, where should I go now? This process needs to profile users, sites and photos. our paper presents the acquired data and relationship between photographers, sites and photos and introduces the model designed to correctly estimate the site interest of each tourism point. The third part shows an application of our schema: a smart travel guide on geolocated mobile devices. This android application is a travel guide truly matching the user wishes.
Mobile Smart Travelling Application For Indonesia Tourism

Indonesia is a country that has seventeen thousand islands and located in a very strategic location. That reason makes Indonesia becoming a place that is interesting to be visited by many tourists either local or international. Every year the number of tourists who visited Indonesia has greatly increased 1,2 and transformed the tourism to be an important sector for Indonesia economical. The rapid development of tourism sector in Indonesia must be equilibrated by the evolution of technology and the supported facilities. Now, the usage of a smartphone technology is one of the important things and a part of modern people daily activities. By taking the advantages of a smartphone, this study is conducted to develop an android application that is named Smart Travelling. Smart travelling has many features that can facilitate every tourist who visited Indonesia, such as recognizes any tourist attractions, shows any events that nearby visited attractions, displays the nearest police station and hospital for an emergency case, and saves the history of the recognized objects. The main idea of the tourist attractions recognition here is to implement an image recognition using landmark detection feature from Google Cloud Vision Application Program Interface (API) 3 technology which helps the tourist to easily remember and access any information regarding the visited attractions. In this study, the result is a completed application which is evaluated using questionnaires to 35 randomly selected participants. Based on the evaluation, the smart travelling achieves positive inputs and mostly the participants agree that the image recognition feature is really helping them. Furthermore, we also obtained a significant result for the scan landmark testing, which is 86% for the accuracy.

In a society undergoing rapid changes, future museums will contribute to human culture by means of smartphone technology that promotes active interaction with the public. As the electronic techniques advance, computing machines have been miniaturized and smart phones are equipped with powerful processors, large memories, sensor, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. We describe a system with a multi-sensor object awareness and positioning solution for augmented tourist information systems in urban areas. The system offers technology of outdoors vision based object recognition that will extend state-of-the-art location and context aware services towards object based awareness in urban environments. In the proposed application scenario, tourist pedestrians are equipped with a GPRS or UMTS capable camera-phone. They are interested whether their field of view contains tourist sights that would point to more detailed information. Multimedia type data about related history might be explored by a mobile user who is intending to learn within the urban environment. Recent developments in mobile device technology and artificial intelligent systems took the attention of many researchers. Historical sites and landmarks are the indispensable heritage of cities. Historic landmark recognition, including detailed attribute information, can connect people directly with the history of the cities, although they may not be familiar with the impressive historical monument. This can be achieved by integrating mobile and deep learning technologies. Therefore, we focused on establishing a deep learning (DL) based mobile historic landmark recognition system in this study. The VGG (16, 19), ResNet (50, 101, 152), DenseNet (121, 169, 201) DL architectures were trained by end-to-end learning techniques for the recognition of ten historic landmarks from the metropolitan city of Istanbul, Turkey. The dataset was prepared by collecting images of ten historical buildings from the image hosting services. The developed prototype automatically and instantly recognizes these historic landmarks from scene images and immediately provides related historic information as well as route planning. The experimental results indicate that DenseNet-169 architecture is very effective for our dataset with 96.3% accuracy. This study has shown that deep learning offers a promising alternative means of recognizing historic landmarks.
Tourist Guide Information System using Google Map and GPS
— With the evolution of technology, the tourists can be effectively guided by the aid of Location Based Service of their smart phone. Solo travelling is popular in today's touring industries and therefore mobile tourist guided system can efficiently support to solo traveler. By applying the combination of Location Based Service of the mobile phone and Google Map services, this tourist guide information system is developed. The purpose of this system is to provide user's current location, the detailed information of the nearest places and the routes to reach their interesting nearest place. This smarter tour guide system use mobile phones' GPS for the current location access and also use Google Maps for efficient guidance to users. The tour guide system provides real-time and location-sensitive tourist information of the Yangon region.
Developing Mobile GIS Application for Religious Tourism and Its Proponent in Bukittinggi City

Tourism has grown to become one of the largest economic sectors in the world. International travel receipts reached USD 1,226 billion in 2016. Each country competes to get tourist visits. Various methods have been developed, including developing religious tourism. It is also done by one of the cities in Indonesia, namely Bukittinggi. Bukittinggi is the leading tourism destination in West Sumatra. Nowadays, in Bukittinggi, religious tourism is being developed with tourism activities related to Islamic teachings. Therefore, the existence of places of worship is one of the essential elements in religious tourism. However, there is a lack of information regarding religious tourism and supporting facilities. Thus, we need entirely, accurately, and easily accessible information to everyone at any time and anywhere. Developing an application with a mobile-based GIS has become the solution to the religious tourism problem in Bukittinggi. This paper reports the Mobile GIS application development. It adopted a waterfall method consisting of analysis, design, implementation, and testing. It was implemented based on the Android™ platform. It can be used to find out information and locations about places of worship, restaurant, and lodging house around places of worship and public transportation to locations. The results of tests showed that the application had fulfilled the functional needs of the system.
e-Turist: Electronic Mobile Tourist Guide

In the e-Turist project we developed a mobile application that provide experience comparable to that offered by a professional tour guide, but tailored to each individual tourist. The tourist can enter his interests (entertainment, active tourism, gastronomy, cultural and natural heritage), the available time and any special requirements he/she may have. Based on these and other data such as opening time, the application prepares a personalized sightseeing program. To this end, it uses a recommender system that combines the extensive knowledge on tourism provided by Turistica with state-of-the art intelligent computer methods developed at Jožef Stefan Institute. Afterwards, the application guides the tourist using the GPS, providing a multilingual written and voice description accompanied by photos. The tourist may comment and rate each sight, which is then used by the recommender system and tourism services providers to improve their services.
