This article is based on the work so far done on the preparation and realization of the Belgrade-OMEP Projet on Traditional Children's Games, and in particular the discussions and results of the International Conference held in Belgrade (9-11 October 1985) on this theme. It contains the information, reflections and conclusions arrived at by the authors and coordinators of the Project in the Yugoslav National Committee of OMEP, as well as the results of an international exchange of opinions on the problems concerning the Project, which had taken place inside OMEP over the course of several years.

Being a phenomenon as old and universal as human history, game is one of the basic needs of children. Depending on these needs, where is a child, there is a game. Children could combine all their knowledge and skills required for life through games, explain themselves in a very easy way and exhibit their skills. Game, which is the most effective learning process for children, is a real means of education and provides us with carrying the knowledge attained throughout preschool period and school years from one generation to another and support the development of children in physical, cognitive, linguistic and social-emotional aspects. In this perspective, the current study was carried out to evaluate traditional child games which are a part of Turkish culture and about to disappear in terms of development fields of children. The study is a descriptive survey and the data of the research was obtained through personal interviews. The data was collected through "Interview Form for Traditional Child Games". The population of the study was made up of young people and adults at the ages of 18-88 chosen randomly and living in the town of Ilgin, the city of Konya in the years 2013 and 2014. The data of the research was analysed in descriptive analysis technique which is used as a descriptive research method. At the end of the study, it was found that games contribute to the motor, linguistic, cognitive and social emotional development fields of children and to their self-care to a great extent.

Since the beginning of mankind, games, as multipurpose activities, have taken place and will continue to function as so in many fields, such as cultural transmission, recognition of traditions, education etc. Traditional games widely adapted by each society are quickly abandoned under the threat of modern technological developments and some are completely forgotton. Some of these traditional games, however, are of particular importance and still preserve their educational values. Particularly the conscious and volitional efforts put into preventing their existence will help the new generations develop contemporary skills which cannot be adapted particularly by electronic games. The aim of this study is to raise suggestions to indicate the educational values and the proper application of some of the child games with exceptional importance among the all.

This research aims to identify the traditional games exist, factors influencing the existence of and describe the attendance at the traditional games in Maumere. This research took place in RT 23, Kelurahan Kota Baru, Kecamatan Alok Timur, Maumere. The subjects of this research were 5-6 years old children, their parents and some officials of RT 23. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation during the research. The results indicated that segong (hopscotch), inggo (hide and seek), ban (rolling wheel) and tali merdeka (jump rope) and several seasonal games still existed as children played the games every day. The presence of people who could teach children the traditional games, the no replacement of modern games, the safety aspects of the game from parents’ perspective and the strong family-tied social life contributed to the survival of traditional games. Traditional children’s games represent an important area within pedagogical culture and tradition of every ethnic group. The opportunities for popularisation of traditional children’s games in contemporary educational systems through information-communication technology are elaborated in this paper. In doing so, two main aims of this process are emphasised. The first aim is related to opportunities of digitalisation and virtualisation of various traditional children’s games into educational computer programs and applications. The second aim, without which the first would not be sufficient, is related to motivating and encouraging children for “transmission” of traditional games from virtual world into real life. It would include different children’s activities, after introducing traditional games through specially created computer programs, making of real props and organisation of these games in the real world, in a natural environment within free activities in school and some subjects such as: Physical Education, History, Nature and Society, Practical and Handicrafts.

Traditional games are the result of past human cultural processes which are rich in local wisdom values. The games are played from generation to generation. They have many benefits, including vehicles and media, to stimulate early childhood development. However, traditional games are slowly starting to be forgotten; children tend to get used to the instant games available on smartphones or devices or other games that can be accessed in the centre of modern games. This habit causes children not to know what traditional games are. This research aimed to describe the existence of traditional games for early age children in Bengkulu. This research employed a literature study method. This study's results are expected to provide awareness to parents, teachers, and the community about the benefits of traditional games in stimulating children's development.

Collected in this volume are preliminary materials related to the Belgrade-OMEP Project whose purpose is to make a record of those traditional children's games which are a part of the -folk culture of various countries. The purpose of this publication is two-fold: (1) to serve as a handbook for the present collaborators on the Project in their research work; and (2) to inform and attract the greatest possible number of potential participants to the Project. The volume contains 14 individually authored papers which are generally brief. The papers focus on the fundamentals of the project; (2) the theoretical and methodological problems of the project; (3) research problems and the development of the Flemish Folk Games File; (4) present research on traditional games of children; (5) play activities of children in different cultures; (6) problems of the project from an ethnological point of view; (7) traditional games of Japanese children; (8) children's lore and traditional games in Finland; (9) play as a subject of ethnological and educational research; (10) play, tradition, and traditional games; (11) the contribution of basic research to the survival of the Awele game; (12) differences in the authenticity of children's expression and the viewing angle of adults; (13) traditional games in the kindergarten; and (14) the protocol for the collection of traditional games, including Form Al for the description of games acquirei from adult informers, Form A2 ftpr the description of observed games, and an explanation of the protocol. With the development of technology, traditional games which had an essential place in the lives of children began to lose their importance and were replaced by computer games. An examination of developed countries shows that their unique traditional games are being protected and, thanks to conscious families are nurtured by national values; thus, they serve an extremely important function in terms of shaping national conscience. Children's game makes a part of children's lives. Th e paper provides partial results of empirical research focused on children's game in the home and school environment. Th e character of the empirical research was diagnostic and quantitative. Th e subject of the research was children's game and its implementation for children under 12 years of age. Th ere were 218 individual respondents from all over Slovakia who participated in the individual interviews. Th ey gave oral answer to questions about the game in their childhood and the way it way realized. Here we also present the approach of teachers and psychologists. Due to political-pedagogical character, we divided the game and the respondents into three categories according to the age and childhood.

The study of play through time and across cultures has consistently demonstrated that, it is a multi-faceted phenomenon being ubiquitous among diverse human societies. The present paper makes an humble endeavour to intricate how different types of traditional games of rural children is being enriched with cultural heritage of a society and act as a source of transmission of knowledge. It also makes a critical examination of the changing scenario of children’s games in contemporary society. The study has been conducted among the school going children in the rural pockets of Western Odisha where local populace is getting dodged and western forms of entertainment is gaining popularity.
