Mobile Phone Addiction: Determinant Factors among Students in a Malaysian Public University

The present study was conducted to examine mobile addiction determinant factors among university students in higher education in Malaysia. A total of 162 students responded to the online survey questionnaire. The study employed a quantitative-based research method to obtain data, and the research instruments consist of a set of combined questionnaires adopted from two Ph.D. studies. The correlation result between mobile addiction and attitude showed a stronger association than with the purpose of use. However, linear regression only indicated a significant contribution of students’ attitude towards mobile addiction variance.

Determinants of Smartphone Addiction and its Influence on Students' Academic Performance

Smartphone is the most wanted gadget of this era and smartphone addiction is the association with its use. This research aims to find the role of craving, social relationships, and overuse of smartphone as determinants of smartphone addiction and its influence on students’ academic performance. This study uses purposive sampling (nonprobability) technique and survey method was adopted. The data was collected through online questionnaire via Google Forms from 300 students of Bachelor of Education (hons.) studying in the Department of Teacher Education, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur Mirs’. For hypotheses testing, structural equation modeling was used. The findings indicated that social relationships and over usage of smartphone were positively affecting smartphone addiction whereas craving to use the smartphone was proved insignificant in creating smartphone addiction, further, it was found that the created smartphone addiction among students was positively and significantly affecting their academic performance. This study recommends that the use of smartphones must be encouraged in teaching learning for students’ effective academic performance.

The influence of mobile phone use on students’ academic behavior in higher education

Smartphones have become an inextricable element of life in the twenty-first century. Since there is little research on the relationship between mobile phone use and academic behavior among students in local universities, hence, the current study sought to study the relationship between these two variables in the context of Malaysian higher education. The data from 435 students who answered an online Google Form of survey sent through a WhatsApp link was collected and analyzed using a descriptive correlational research approach. The results indicated that male students displayed a higher level of mobile phone use than female students in higher education. The study also found that negative phone use had a negative relationship with academic behavior, and positive phone use contributed to positive academic behavior. Impact of Smartphone Addiction on Academic Performance of Business Students: A Case Study

The development of telecom technology has a profound impact on the academic lives of the students. Smartphone usage became popular to young generation because of its educational and entertaining options by using the numerous applications. Among the young people, students are increasingly using Smartphone. But excessive Smartphone usage usually makes the students addicted to it and that impacts on user's academic performance, daily activities, physical and mental health, withdrawal tendency, and social relationships. This study aims at identifying the factors that affect the level of Smartphone addiction to the students and its impact on their overall academic performance. A structured questionnaire has been developed to gather data from the students. A total of 247 questionnaires were collected from the business students of a private university of Bangladesh. Using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), data were analyzed. Results revealed five Smartphone addiction factors such as, positive anticipation, impatience, withdrawal, daily-life disturbance, and cyber friendship. Factors like increased impatience and daily-life disturbance were found significantly related to the academic performance of the business students of Bangladesh. This study suggests that the students should reduce the intense use of Smartphone for smoothly doing their daily-life activities.

Examining the Predictors of Mobile Addiction: Some Insights from Malaysia

This research aims to investigate the predictors of mobile addiction. The data was analyzed using Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) approach supported by Smart-PLS 2.0 to assess the hypothesis in the research model. The PLS-SEM technique revealed that there was a strong correlation between social networking sites (SNS) intensity and mobile addiction. This study aims to identify how addiction to mobile phone usage affects academic performance. Mobile phone addiction has become a deterrent in student learning as teenagers may focus totally on their mobile phones to a point that they become dependent on them. In turn, dependence on mobile phones in their daily lives may affect teen academic performance. This study investigates mobile phone usage among teens and how it impacts their concentration on academic matters. A quantitative approach was undertaken to determine how the level of mobile phone addiction could affect their academic performance. A total of 200 respondents among secondary school students in Shah Alam were selected through purposive sampling. The questionnaire was designed in two sections, which consisted of demographic information and mobile phone usage behaviours that influence academic performance. The results show that the more the students use their mobile phones, the more it will affect their academic performance. In other words, addiction to mobile phones will affect the student's academic performance. Thus, student attention may divert away from their academics if they have high addiction to their mobile phones. As a result of this study, it has been validated that mobile phones have transformed communication and connectivity among members of the public, students in particular, and that these objects have become indispensable in this contemporary era.

Revealing the Relationship between Smartphone Addiction and Academic Performance of Students: Evidences from Higher Educational Institutes of Pakistan

In this world of technology, smart phone has become a vital part in everyone’s life. This study aims to focus on the relationship between smartphone addiction and academic performance of students in higher education. Variables such as use of social networking sites, overuse of smart phone and Academic Performance (Grade Point Average and Time Management skills) were part of this research.
