Factors Influencing Intention to Stop Smoking in Community in Nagan Raya Aceh, Indonesia

One of the health effort in terms of reducing deaths from cigarettes each year is to limit smoking consumption through increased intention to quit smoking. Basic Health Research Data 2013 shows that the current proportion of smokers in Aceh province is (29.3%) and the proportion according to smoking habit in Nagan Raya is (21.7%) consisting of every day smokers (17.3%) and periodically smokers (4.4%). This study aims to determine the factors that affect the intention to stop smoking in Gampong Kuta Paya Seunagan District Nagan Raya District Year 2015. This research is analytical descriptive with cross sectional design. The data were collected by interview using questionnaire. The population in this study was the entire head of the family who smoked as many as 63 people (Total Sampling). This research was conducted from 27 October to 10 November 2015. Data analysis with Chi Square Test and Logistic Regression. The result of the research shows that the respondent age is less productive (38.1%), respondents work as self-employed (34,9%), respondent earn over UMP (76.2%), respondents smoke filter cigarettes (68.3%) .Respondents had no intention (68.3%), respondents behave negatively (58.7%), respondents with negative normative belief (65.1%), and respondents with no motivation (63.5%). The result of statistic test obtained with no age influence (P Value = 0.109), income (P Value = 1,000), with intention to stop smoking, and there is influence of attitude (P Value = 0.001), normative trust (P Value = 0.010) and motivation (P Value = 0.018) with the intention to stop smoking. Attitude is the most influential to intention (OR = 6.6). This research is expected to be an input / information for health agencies and the public in improving the intention to stop smoking in order to reduce the mortality rate from smoking.

Introduction: Most smokers intend to quit smoking however there are many barriers such as low self-efficacy at a personal level, smoking being regarded as a cultural norm and also lack of support to quit smoking from family and the health service provider. Indonesia has one of the largest tobacco epidemics in Southeast Asia. According to the World Health Organization, smoking-related illnesses kill about 200,000 Indonesians annually. In Central Sulawesi, 26.1% are daily smokers and 6.0% are former smokers. The data show that a future burden of tobacco-related disease can be predicted if people still smoke. Basic Behavioural Characteristics of Tobacco Use in Patirnts Who Plan Quitting

Aim/Background. Most smokers try to stop smoking without professional support and soon begin to smoke again. In our country, the number of admissions to smoking cessation outpatient clinics are gradually increasing due to the anti-smoking campaigns and increasing smokingrelated diseases. The aim of the present study was to investigate the basic behavioural characteristics of tobacco use in patients who plan to quitting. Methods.Patients who applied to Outpatient Clinics of Family Medicine Department of Adnan Menderes University Hospital between September 1 st , 2017 and August 31 st , 2018 with the aim of smoking cessation were included in this prospective descriptive study.Data collection was done through the follow-up protocol form of smoking cessation outpatient clinic. Data analysis was done by using SPSS 18.0 program. Besides comparative statistical methods, t test and Mann Whitney-U test were used for quantitative variables, and chisquare test was used for categorical variables. Results.The mean age of 146 patients who were mostly male was 41.8 years. The most common reason for quitting smoking was fear of being ill or the present disease (69.9%). The mean age of starting to smoke was 16.4 years and the smoking-load was 28.6 packs/year. The age of starting smoking was similar in males and females however males had smoked more heavily(smoking load was 212 package/year and 32.9 package year in females and males, respectively, p=0.08).Approximately one third of smokers were nicotine-dependent at very high levels and started to smoke with social impact (59.6%). Stress was the most common factor of desire to smoke (60.3%). Approximately 74% of the cigarette addicts were at the stage of preparing to quit smoking and the most common medical treatment used was nicotine replacement treatment (69.9%). Conclusions.Smokers who want to quit smoking generally start smoking due to social impact at an early age and use cigarettes as a tool of coping with stress and want to quit smoking due to diseases or fear to be ill. It is important to focus on the basic characteristics of the patients' smoking behaviour in smoking cessation process.

Background: The high prevalence of smoking is not only among adults but also among children and adolescents. Almost all adolescent smokers wish to quit smoking. They are aware of the dangers of cigarettes, tobacco, and other types so they are motivated to quit smoking. This study aims to determine the determinants of the desire to quit smoking in Indonesian students, using a cross-sectional study design. Method: This study is a secondary data analysis of the Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) in Indonesia in 2014. The sample of the study was all students in grades 7-9 in Indonesia who participated in the 2014 GYTS and had complete data, namely 5,986 people. Quitting tobacco use at any age will help in improving the quality of health. Objective: To nd out the intention to quit tobacco smoking and its predictors among adult male smokers. Methodology: A cross-sectional clinic based study was conducted for 2 months (July-august 2017) among 123 adult male current smokers. Nicotine dependence was assessed using Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence (FTND) questionnaire and intention to quit tobacco smoking and its various predictors were assessed using structured schedule. Logistic regression was done to establish association. Results: Intention to quit tobacco smoking signicantly associated with higher educational status (AOR=3.04. CI=1.32-6.98),low nicotine dependence(AOR=3.85, CI=1.52-9.73),less duration of tobacco smoking(AOR=2.33, CI=1.02-5.31),previous H/O quit attempts (AOR=2.73, CI=1.17-6.32) The low rate of quitting intention among adult smokers underscore the need for comprehensive policy initiatives that Conclusion: would encourage smokers to think about quitting.

The relationship between smoking status and smoking cessation practice for health workers in Surabaya
