Laptop Performance Prediction

International Journal for Research in Applied Science & Engineering Technology (IJRASET), 2023

The "LAPTOP PERFORMANCE PREDICTION" is an important metric used to predict the performance of laptops Laptop manufacturers spend a lot of time, resources, and money designing new systems and newer configurations. Their ability to reduce costs, charge competitive prices, and gain market share depends on how well these systems perform. In this work, concentrate on the system and architectural design processes for parallel computers and develop methods to expedite them. The methodology relies on extracting the performance levels of a small fraction of the machines in the design space and using this information to develop machine learning models to predict the performance of any machine in the whole design space. Laptop performance prediction is useful to accelerate the design space exploration significantly and aid in reducing the corresponding research/development cost and time-to-market.

The Case for Personal Computers as Workstations

1996

This paper presents the case for using personal computers as workstations. The argument is based on the performance of CISC processors using a 32 bit operating system. The authors have developed a set of simple benchmarks that measure integer, floating point, and memory manipulation. The benchmarks were used to measure the performance of a variety of RISC based workstations and Intel CISC based personal computers under several operating systems. On the personal computers based on Intel x86 and Pentium processors, the benchmarks are run under both the Microsoft Disk Operating System (MS-DOS) with Windows and the Linux Operating System. While the benchmarks reveal nothing surprising about the relative speed within the different processor families (for example, a MIPS 4000 versus a MIPS 4400), they did reveal that the Intel CISC processors perform the benchmarks 1.25 to 7.25 times faster using Linux than with the MS-DOS and Windows combination. This is because Linux is a 32 bit operating system and also accesses memory faster than the 16 bit MS-DOS and Windows combination [Chen]. As a result, the CISC based machines with Linux run the benchmarks as well or better than many of the more expensive RISC machines. In addition to these simple benchmarks, the authors also benchmarked one of the Intel CISC computers under Xwindows, the most common workstation environment. Again, the personal computer performed adequately. Given the price difference between personal computers and workstations, the case for using personal computers as general purpose workstations is very strong.

Prediction of Computer Type Using Benchmark Scores of Hardware Units

Users need an expert opinion to learn about their current computer or purchasing. In addition to these, computer and computer component manufacturers have to carry out innovation studies such as improving the products they produce by receiving feedback about the products they produce, and changing the marketing strategy. There is various benchmark software to meet all these needs. This benchmark software measures the software and hardware performance of the computers and enable users to gain information about the performance of their computers and components. The category of computers can also be determined as a result of the performance evaluation obtained. Various statistical and machine learning methods are used to determine these categories. In this study, it is tried to predict which category the computers fall into by using the computer features in a dataset obtained from the internet by the web scraping method by random forest and logistic regression method. The effect of computer features in the dataset on classification has been analyzed. Classification success was 89.4% with the random forest method and 84.3% with the logistic regression method.

Comparing Performance of some Brands of Laptop Computers with special Reference to Booting Time

Assam University Journal of Science and Technology, 2010

Selecting the brand of computer especially laptop is a tough task to do. When a new laptop is used, it starts up really fast. As the computer becomes old, the startup time increases. There are several reasons responsible for the slow booting of the computer viz. speed of the processor, size of the RAM used, the operating system installed, number of software installed in the computer, amount of free disk space in the secondary memory etc. This paper takes into consideration three popular brands of laptops available in present market viz. Acer, Compaq and Lenovo and compares their performance in terms of booting time. There are a number of exercises that can decrease the booting time of the computer. The improvement of booting time of computers of the above mentioned brands on performance of the exercise are compared.
