This study aims to explore how subjective norms and perceptions of food safety influence people's behavioral intention to use and continue using delivery apps during the coronavirus pandemic. According to the TPB model, subjective norms were anticipated to be positively linked to both intention and continued behavior. The study's objective also was to ascertain the advantageous consequences of perceived food safety and intention on continued usage. The study used a quantitative approach, with a sample of 300 mobile food ordering app users in Yogyakarta selected using non-probability sampling. The data collection method was a validated and reliable questionnaire, and data analysis used SEM AMOS. The results showed that subjective norms and perceived food safety had a significant positive influence on behavioral intention and that behavioral intention and perceived food safety affected continued use. This study contributes to the existing literature on the benefits of subjective norms and perceived food safety on mobile app usage, and its findings have both theoretical and practical implications.

This study is intended to minimize the gap in the literature and develop more understanding concerning the issue of unhealthy consumption behaviour among Malaysians which indeed leads to the prevalence of obesity and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).Many studies had scientifically proven that functional foods, with fortified nutritional values could help prevent the risks of NCDs and improve overall health. Therefore, this study is aimed to investigate the relationship between antecedent factors of attitude dimensions (i.e., reward, necessity, confidence and safety), social influence and self-efficacy on behavioural intention to consume functional foods among Malaysians.A survey was conducted with a sample of 452 respondents by using the self-administered questionnaire. The results revealed that only reward, self-efficacy and necessity factors significantly influence consumer-behavioural intention to consume functional foods. On the other hand, confidence, safety and social influence ...

The development of functional foods is key to promoting a healthy diet and preventing certain diseases. This study aims to examine several key factors that affect consumer attitude and intention with respect to purchasing functional foods in an emerging market economy. A research model was developed by extension of the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), and then validated through obtaining data from 596 Vietnamese consumers who were interested in functional yogurts using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Multivariate data analysis reveals that while health consciousness and subjective norm significantly enhance consumers’ attitudes towards purchasing functional yogurts, perceived price of functional yogurts exerts a negative impact on such attitudes. Moreover, subjective norm and attitude appear to be key predictors of consumers’ intentions to buy functional yogurts. These findings extend the extant literature relating to functional food purchase and consumption in emerging m...
Structural Equation Modeling of Consumer Purchase Intention Toward Synthetic Functional Foods
Journal of Food Products Marketing, 2014
Functional foods are gaining greater popularity around the world. They are not just a new category of food products marketed for their health benefits, but their competitive market has made consumers become more favorable toward firms that are involved in this industry. The public is increasingly concerned about health and food-related risks. They tend to make decisions on food consumption, food storage, and food preparation on a more ideal perspective based on health and safety. Therefore, the objective of this study is to determine the factors and intention of Malaysian consumers to purchase synthetic functional foods. Structural equation modeling is used to accomplish the objectives of this study with the feedback received from the 2,004 households who were interviewed through a structural questionnaire. The results show that the most influential factors influencing consumer purchasing intention toward synthetic functional foods are perceived benefits followed by attitude and subjective norms.
Nudging Consumers toward Healthier Food Choices: A Field Study on the Effect of Social Norms
Sustainability, 2021
Food choices influence the health of individuals, and supermarkets are the place where part of the world population makes their food choices on a daily basis. Different methods to influence food purchasing habits are used, from promotions to food location. However, very few supermarket chains use social norms, the human need to conform to the perceived behavior of the group, to increase healthy food purchase habits. This research seeks to understand how a social norm nudge, a message conveying fruit and vegetable purchasing norms positioned in strategic places, can effectively change food choices. Using data from an intervention in a Portuguese supermarket, the fruit and vegetable purchase quantities of 1636 customers were measured over three months and compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. The results show that the nudge intervention positively affected those whose purchasing habits are categorized as less healthy, while those with healthy habits were slightl...

Consumers' internalisation of social norms is at work when they make routine, healthier food choices in everyday contexts. We investigate the dynamics of this phenomenon in Singapore, where over 98% of consumer food products are imported. To study this, we propose, through a consumer perspective (n = 316) via Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS‐SEM), a model that establishes a positive relationship between perceived usefulness, subjective norms, and intrinsic motivations and the perceived value of healthier food. Subjective norms are themselves found to be a function of perceived barriers, facilitating conditions and personal innovativeness. Our framework contributes to establish a shift in the drivers of healthier food choices toward a more socio‐culturally grounded decision‐making approach that is particularly relevant to understand food consumption. We show that daily food routines (opposing the exceptional healthy food item) are encapsulated in perceived...

The purpose of this paper is to examine the determinants of organic food purchase (O-FP). Specifically, how do consumers’ attitudes toward O-FP mediate in the links between health safety norms, perceived self-efficacy and perceived social support, and O-FP? To answer this question, a research framework using the theory of bounded rationality as its basis was formulated. Data were collected from the residents of Dhaka city during the 2019 holiday season. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse the data to answer the questions about the relationships of the aforementioned constructs toward organic food purchase behaviour. Findings suggested that perceived self-efficacy has no association between attitude and O-FP. However, other hypotheses are found to be supported implying attitude has both direct and mediated influence on O-FP.
Do subjective norms matter in organic food buying intentions in Pakistan
2014
The paper investigates the applicability of theory of planned behavior (TPB) with special emphasis on measuring the direct and moderating effects of subjective norms 012 attitude, perceived behavioral control and buying intention in context of buying organic food.Structured questionnaires were randomly distributed among academic staffs and students of two universities in Southern Punjab, Pakistan.Structural Equation Modeling was employed to test the proposed model fit. Results of the study showed that subjective norms significantly moderate the relationship between attitudes and buying intention as well as between perceived behavior control and buying intention. Furthermore, subjective norms significantly influence attitude towards buying intention. The paper provides useful insights for the academics and marketers:Academics may further explore the role of subjective norms in order to have a better understanding of their effects on component of TPB.Whereas, marketers can target the o...
Attitude Components Affecting Functional Dairy Foods Acceptance Among Iranian Urban Consumers
2020
Background: Due to the effects that chemical and inorganic foods have on the human body system and cause a variety of diseases, including cancer, the use of functional foods is highly recommended for people. In this study, the attitudinal factors affecting the acceptance of functional dairy foods by urban consumers in Rasht, located in Guilan province, have been investigated. Methods: Data were obtained from 223 households in Rasht City, Northern Iran. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to investigate the effects of the general components of purchasing, the benefits of functional dairy food, the need of functional dairy foods, confidence in functional dairy foods, safety of functional dairy foods, health consciousness and healthy lifestyle, components on the willingness to buy of functional dairy foods. Results: The components of attitude towards healthy lifestyle and the general components of purchasing were the most effective factors in determining the acceptance of functio...
