The need for a comprehensive study to explore various aspects of online social media has been instigated by many researchers. This paper gives an insight into the social platform, Twitter. In this present work, we have illustrated stepwise procedure for crawling the data and discuss the key issues related to extracting associated features that can be useful in Twitter-related research while crawling these data from Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Further, the data that comprises of over 86 million tweets have been analysed from various perspective including the most used languages, most frequent words, most frequent users, countries with most and least tweets and re-tweets, etc. The analysis reveals that the users' data associated with Twitter has a high affinity for researches in the various domain that includes politics, social science, economics, and linguistics, etc. In addition, the relation between Twitter users of a country and its human development index has been identified. It is observed that countries with very high human development indices have a relatively higher number of tweets compared to low human development indices countries. It is envisaged that the present study shall open many doors of researches in information processing and data science.
An Analysis of Twitter users of Pakistan
Web mining analyzes web content, its usage and structure. The users' behavior, interaction and generated content analysis have vast applications such as market analysis, social issues examination and study of human behavior. Twitter is a widely used social network that provides short message facility to its users to generate their own content. There are a number of research works about twitter data analysis, but the relevant literature lacks to analyze the data of Twitter users of Pakistan. In this work, we have prepared the Twitter dataset of users of Pakistan. Then, we have performed user profile analysis and statistical analysis. The user profile analysis covers users' account verification, region as well as province-wise analysis. The statistical analysis focuses to analyze certain Twitter features such as hashtags, user mentions. In addition, the top active users and influential users have also been identified. This research discusses the users' issues and is helpful to understand society, people and their behaviors. We find that Twitter users in Pakistan are different as they interact with real life relations, share religion and sports related content, whereas the rest of the world users follow celebrities such as actors, musicians, and political personalities. In the future, we intend to analyze the content and target to find the top trending topics discussed by Twitter users in Pakistan.
AN EXPLORATORY STUDY OF THE PROFILE OF THE SAUDI USER OF SOCIAL MEDIA
The use of social networks is entering the era of maturity. The large technology vendors are all the more interested in getting involved in the Social Media game unable to afford being left out of these compact and huge potential markets. This exploratory quantitative study aims to reveal those demographics facts related with the usage of the social networks in Saudi Arabia that form the profile of the local user. The findings show a general agreement with the main conclusion of other public surveys in the country pointing to a heavy use of the social networks, at more than 85%. They also suggest that the younger the individual the more likely it is to get involved in the Social Media and in the case of female individuals, though slightly less in population, but seemingly more intense use of them. Education does not seem to affect the frequency of the use as long as the individual are at least basically educated. Likewise income and employment status only indirectly affect this use since they affect the amount of free time one has to get involved with the social networks. Finally, as expected, the more one is connected to the Internet the heavier the use of the Social Media.

Twitter in the Context of Arab Spring
2013
Twitter has not been the target of much research. Although these initial analyses have accumulated insights as to some Twitter user practices and the micro-blogging service's content, these studies remain limited in terms of scale (i.e., they did not depend on huge datasets as is attempted in the current work), nor did they examine Twitter use and practices in the context of the Arab Spring. In the current work, our goal is to bridge these gaps. In other words, we investigate (1) the employment of various Arabic varieties, (2) sentiment expression, and (3) topic distribution in two Twitter sub-corpora, one pre-dating the Arab Spring and another occurring in its context. Our analyses show the impact of the political events on the social network at the three fronts.

Motives for the Use of Twitter by Arab Youth
2018
The study aims to identify the reasons why the Arab youth prefer to use Twitter and whether their age, gender, educational level and country of origin play a crucial role in their use of Twitter. In order to answer the aforementioned questions, a descriptive survey method was conducted using a digital survey, which was distributed via Twitter, Google+, Facebook and LinkedIn. The study presents a number of outcomes regarding the preferences of Twitter usage by Arab youth; the analysis and discussion related to the first research question shows that Arab youth prefer Twitter because it is easy to use and gives them more room to explain their opinions and thoughts freely. Regarding the variety of Twitter usage among the research sample, the analysis and discussion associated with the second research question claims that there are statistically significant differences in the usage of Twitter amongst the Arab youth that can be attributed to age, gender, educational level and their home c...
Analysis of Twitter Data for Saudi Universities Meshrif Alruily
With the tremendous increase in web technologies, many people are conveying and expressing their feelings through social media. These data collections, called big data, can be of high value to institutions, governments, and researchers if analyzed and interpreted as well. Most of the studies on sentiment analysis have been performed for the English language and few of these works focus on Arabic. Further, these studies rarely focus on colloquialisms, and no research was carried out on Twitter data related to Saudi universities. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a sentiment analysis system for analyzing Tweets generated by Saudi Twitter users about Saudi universities. There are two proposed different models used for Twitter-based sentiment analysis. The first model begins with Tweet collection followed by preprocessing. Latent Dirichlet Allocation, used here, eliminated Tweets that were not expressing sentiments; therefore, the document will be reduced, which affects system accur...
The Middle East: Social Media Revolution in Public and Private Communication
International Conference on Future of Social Sciences and Humanities, 2019
Interculturally, social media's impact has been twofold. Social media have provided unprecedented opportunities for members of different cultures to get to know each other directly and hence they have helped people to demystify their intercultural beliefs. At the same time social media have made poisonous hate speech and xenophobic comments communicated to other cultures which is followed by backfire from hated people. This causes a chain of increasing hate speech which eventually finds its way into practice. The changes in the media landscape as they are related to intercultural communication are what Shutter (2064: p. 478) calls a new field of inquiry, labelled as "intercultural new media studies," which consists of two fields: (1) new media and intercultural communication theory and (2) culture and new media. The study of social communities is extremely multidisciplinary, requiring expertise from communication, computer science, sociology, behavioral sciences, mathematics, and statistics Those who have a relevant position in a social media platform organization have access to the most personal information one can conceive. They know what an individual looks like, how he or she lives, whom he or she loves or hates, where he or she goes, what he or she thinks. Doing research on social media gives us better accuracy, particularly in the case of sensitive issues of intercultural communication in the Middle East. In this article, we evaluate different aspects of social media in the Middle East, though with a critical view, the concept of "Middle East" is itself problematic. Middle East is middle east to another construct which is the West. Fruitful study of social media in the Middle East necessarily includes considerations there of ethnicity and race, religion, identity and language, the economy, and history and wars in the region and elsewhere.
Investigating the attitude of the average Saudi towards the Social Media
It could be easily claimed, that the use of social networks has entered the era of maturity after almost a decade from their birth. The large technology vendors are all the more interested in getting involved in the Social Media game unable to afford the case of being left out of these easy, compact and huge potential markets. Many studies see the light of publicity and they all are somehow associated with this matter. This exploratory and mainly qualitative study of several parts aims to reveal not just some demographics facts related with the usage of the social networks but to delve deeper into the hidden details of this usage and, possibly, shed light into the positive and negatives of this usage both from a users but also from a business's perspective. In this first part the effect of the personality of the average user on his/her attitude towards the Social Media is investigated. The scope of the whole study is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia mainly because of its particularit...
