This study was focused on an assessment of factors enhancing the success of primary consumer cooperatives in Burayu town, Oromia regional state, Ethiopia. To answer research questions, descriptive and explanatory method of research design, as well as mixed method research approach, is employed. The researcher was used both the primary and the secondary data sources. Questionnaires were distributed for members of the primary consumer cooperatives in the study area. In addition to this, the interview was used to strengthen the information that has been collected through questionnaires. The data has been analyzed through, descriptive statistics such as frequency distributions table, percentage, mean and standard division. The data entry and analysis have been performed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 25.0. The level of success of primary consumer cooperatives is moderate in providing price of goods and services, satisfaction with the cooperative management accomplishment of their duties, treatment of customers or service users, consistency of supply of essential goods, adequate work to increase the number of members and quality of goods and Services provided by consumer cooperatives. This study has identified various factors for the success of consumer cooperatives. Member"s participation factors, members" awareness factors and managerial factors are perceived as the top three most significant factors that enhance the success of consumer cooperatives as compared to other factors in the selected area. The views and opinions of cooperators helped to develop useful prescriptions. The issues identified may be relevant to those starting or managing cooperatives in in Burayu Town.
Scholars in management and strategy found that the participation of members correlated with business performance. However, the business performance of cooperatives in Malaysia does not clearly show this trend. As such, this study aims to examine the level of members " participation and its correlation with the cooperatives " business performance. The members " participation constructs were decision making, share capital and the usage of products and services measured through multi-dimensional analysis, despite current literature that focuses on unidimensional construct. Data was collected using the survey of 148 members of Koperasi PTSS Berhad. By using descriptive analysis, the result shows that usage of products and service was the highest level of members " participation, followed by share capital and decision-making. While correlation analysis found that all three variables had a significant positive relationship with the cooperatives " business performance. These findings are useful as they contribute to a better understanding of the members " participation constructs as well as relationship strategies to link with the cooperatives " business performance. Several suggestions have been made for future research.

This study accessed factors that hindering the performance of cooperatives societies in Mubi metropolis, Adamawa state, Nigeria. In order to achieve the objectives, this study was guided by four research questions and four research hypotheses. The structured questionnaire was used to collect data from randomly selected 381 members of cooperatives in Mubi metropolis. This study recorded 96% returning rate and data collected were analysed with simple percentage, frequency table, weighted average and regression analysis. The results of analysis established that poor meeting attendance is most significant members' factors hindering the efficiency of cooperative societies. Also, corruption, power tussle, incompetency and biasness are the leadership factors limiting the performance of cooperative societies' in the study area. Also, the political interference, lack of business ideas and cumbersome of policies are the societies' related factors affecting the performance of cooperatives societies. Likewise, the lack regulations and monitoring, unfriendly business environment are all the government factors affecting performance of cooperative societies in the study area. The study recommends for the members improvement in attendant and participation in the cooperative activities. Also, the leadership in the cooperative societies should be democratically appointed. Likewise, the state government should improve on policies that dealt with operation of cooperative association in Adamawa sate. Also, the government should assist the cooperative to establish linkages with the several NGOs within and outside the country.

This is a review of research conducted on members' participation to assess members' basic awareness of cooperatives organized in Abobo and Gog districts of Gambella Regional State, Ethiopia. To understand the awareness problems of members, quantitative and qualitative methods were applied. Quantitative data collected through structured questionnaires and qualitative data collected by using focus group discussions. For the purpose of this study, first, Abobo and Gog districts with 14 agricultural cooperatives that have been existed for more than 5 years were selected purposively and then, census was used to cover 248 members of the selected cooperatives. To analyze the data, frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviations were used. The, findings of this study revealed that members' lack of awareness about cooperative's concept, principles, values, rights and duties as members and the uniqueness of cooperatives with other forms of businesses were found to be the main reasons for the failure of agricultural cooperatives established in Abobo and Gog districts of Gambella Regional State, Ethiopia.

Cooperative is a profitable opportunity, which gives the reason why many are motivated to establish and join. Today, establishing a business is quite tough due to constraints in the capital and it paves the way for an individual to look for other individuals, which can help them to jumpstart the undertaking at the possible lowest cost to organize. The output of this study would be a proposed management performance framework based on the variables that are significant to the members’ satisfaction, management and financial performance of cooperatives. This model can be a basis for strategic planning in fulfilling the mission, vision, goals and objectives of a cooperative. This research determines the service quality, managerial and financial performance of cooperatives in Lipa City. Descriptive type of research method was used to gather information in assessing respondents from the cooperative. Respondents with higher level of assessment on service quality are also those respondents with higher level of assessment on managerial performance. Cooperatives are efficient in its profitability performance, have institutional strength, majority of the assets are considered to be earning assets and are able to generate earnings from its operations.

Cooperatives are vital in the economy, hence, it is practically important to examine the factors that may influence their performance. This study focused on determining the factors that predict cooperatives' perceived effectiveness in terms of financial and social performance in Eastern Visayas, Philippines. A random sampling technique was employed to gather primary data to 438 respondents composed of the board of directors, managers, officers, and members. For data analysis, Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was utilized to analyze the Likert scale data based on the survey participants' responses. Results showed that cooperatives' governance, members' participation, and training and development significantly predicted cooperatives' perceived effectiveness in terms of financial and social performance. Hence, management of the cooperatives should develop a culture of effective governance that includes transparency, management accountability, and members' democratic participation; encourage members' economic participation and; conduct periodic training to help the cooperatives attain their social and financial goals. Determinants of Business Cooperatives’ Success in North Gondar Zone, Ethiopia

Cooperatives have been promoted in many developing countries including Ethiopia to address issues such as; unemployment, rural development, and as a means of creating income-generating activities, especially to the poor community. Although many studies have examined various key issues contributing to the success of cooperatives, lower consideration is given to the determinants of cooperative’s success and the researcher has directed his concerns towards the study of determinants for the cooperative’s success in North Gondar of Ethiopia in this particular study. To undertake the research, 272 business cooperatives operating in North Gondar Zone have been included in the sample and questioner, interview, and focus group discussions were used as a tool for data collection. The collected data were analyzed through multiple linear regression model and the result shows that cooperative success measured by cooperative’s profitability has a statistically significant positive relation with group savings, rate of loan repayment, membership fees, financial stability, and business volume. In contrast, cooperative’s success has a statistically significant negative relation with the size of the membership in business cooperatives operating in North Gondar Zone. Finally, it was recommended that cooperative managers need to focus on the factors which are significantly affecting cooperatives success.

Cooperatives enable people to improve their social and economic conditions by pooling their resource and efforts together in ways that are more productive than working individually. The aim of this study was to identify determinants to performance of MPACs. Multistage sampling was employed to select study area and sample households. Study area selected purposively because of its accessibility and relatively large numbers of functional cooperatives. Primary data were collected from 122 members of sample cooperatives those were selected using simple random sampling proportional to size of members in the cooperative through semi-structured interview schedule and key informant interview and focus discussion. Moreover, secondary data were obtained from audit reports of sample cooperatives. The collected data entered to SPSS version 20. Descriptive analysis such as mean, percentage and frequency were analyzed along with probit model. However, their moderate involvement in service provision of agricultural input distribution cooperatives output marketing service in the study area was found as it was not outstanding that majority of the cooperatives did not carry out purchasing of farmers output. The model result revealed that from thirteen explanatory variables included in the model for analysis numbers of shareholding in cooperative, membership to union and working relationship in cooperative were found to be significantly and positively related to members' satisfaction to overall performance of MPACs. On the other hand, family size of household, cooperative age and degree of corruption in cooperative were found to be significantly influence degree of member's satisfaction to their cooperative overall performance negatively. Therefore, cooperative management and staff members should strive to render valuable services to its members.
Member participation in every cooperative society is very pertinent to its survival and effective performance. This study examined the effects of members’ participation in cooperative activities on the performance of the multipurpose cooperative societies (MCS) in Awka South LGA of Anambra State, Nigeria. Data were collected from 112 randomly respondents from 13 registered and active MCS in the study area. These collected data were analyzed with both inferential and descriptive statistics, the descriptive statistics include frequency, simple percentage and mean, while inferential statistics used was multiple regression analysis. Test of hypotheses were affected through ANOVA and correlation analysis. The result from the study revealed that, members’ participation in cooperative activities is being influenced by their socioeconomic characteristics; also findings showed that there is a significant relationship between members’ participation and cooperative performance. As such, in order to enhance and strengthen members’ participation and cooperative performance it was recommended that the cooperative members should show more commitment in participation in cooperative activities, also the cooperative should at all time get members involved in the decision making processes, finally, the cooperative should diversify their investment so as to encourage members to participate by investing and committing more resources with aim of getting some benefits like patronage rebate, dividends and interest.
The main purpose of this study was to identify members' characteristics that influence co-operatives growth, in the Western-Azerbaijan Province, Iran. The methodological approach of this study employed an analytical method (relational study). Through a multi stage stratified randomization sampling technique, 190 members were selected from 51 co-operatives for the study. The results of the study showed that among the averages of the variables of contribution in educational courses, rate of participation in co-operative establishment and co-operatives growth, significant differences are exposed. In addition, the results of the study showed that the relationship between the variables of use of mass media and studying rate were significantly correlative linked with co-operatives growth.
