Management of Pandemic Crisis: COVID-19

International Journal of Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences

The world is threatened with a novel corona virus (COVID-19) which has posed an unpredictable challenge to the public health workforce. It originated from the Wuhan City of China and spread across the globe creating havoc among the public and healthcare workers which led to WHO declaring it to be pandemic. Transmission of this virus is through symptomatic and asymptomatic patients in the form of fomites produced while coughing or sneezing. This has led to a global crisis subsequently leading to the scarce availability of health care resources such as personal protective equipment, ventilators, ICU beds, medication. Healthcare workers have been a vital human resource in providing treatment and assistance to the infected patients though they were facing a high risk of themselves getting infected by the coronavirus. They suffered from fatigue, physical, and psychological violence as they tend to work for longer hours. Detection of infected patients was implemented, as the widely used R...

COVID-19 prevention and control measures: Emergency center of the University Clinical Center of Serbia

Srpski medicinski casopis Lekarske komore, 2021

In less than a year, humanity has managed to start a long and difficult battle against a virus, with a powerful weapon - the vaccine. In addition to vaccination, which is undoubtedly the most important measure in preventing COVID-19, our responsible behavior (wearing masks, hand hygiene, observing physical distance), especially in this period of an increase in the number of patients and the emergence of new strains, also remains an important measure in preventing and controlling the spread of COVID-19. In this paper, an overview of professional recommendations and instructions for the epidemiological surveillance of health care institutions is given. The study objective is to present the manner of organizing the epidemiological surveillance of the Epidemiology Department of the University Clinical Center of Serbia (UCCS) at the Emergency Center of the UCCS (EC-UCCS) as well as the application of measures to prevent and control COVID-19. To this end the method of the triage of patien...

Sanitary, Hygienic and Organizational Criteria for Reducing the Risk of COVID-19

The 3rd International Electronic Conference on Environmental Research and Public Health—Public Health Issues in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic, 2021

Novel coronavirus (SARS-COV-2) was identified in December 2019 in the People’s Republic of China, and it started emerging as an international healthcare emergency. The COVID-19 pandemic might represent the tip of the iceberg, and it is the responsibility of all public healthcare authorities and experts to develop an adequate response using the right protocols and instruments to ensure public safety. As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we proposed a set of approaches to prevent the risk of COVID-19: risk assessment criteria, a preventive action plan, an occupational classification system, and sanitary-hygienic principles. All these approaches are beneficial in developing policies and decisions for improving the performance and the outcomes of national and global public health authorities. The risk measurement scale (high risk, medium risk, and low risk) can be used to measure the risk magnitude of contracting coronavirus infection, and to classify occupations according to the cor...

Study of the Deep Processes of COVID-19 in Russia: Finding Ways to Identify Preventive Measures

International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a huge impact on all areas of human life. Since the risk of biological threats will persist in the future, it is very important to ensure mobilization readiness for a prompt response to the possible emergence of epidemics of infectious diseases. Therefore, from both a theoretical and practical standpoint, it is currently necessary to conduct a thorough examination of the COVID-19 epidemic. The goal of this research is to investigate the underlying processes that led to the COVID-19 pandemic in Russia and to identify ways to improve preventive measures and ensure mobilization readiness for a quick response to potential COVID-19-like pandemics. This research will analyze the daily dynamics of the number of infection cases and the number of new lethal cases of COVID-19. We analyzed the daily number of new cases of COVID-19 infection N(d), the daily number of new lethal cases L(d), their percentage ratio L(d)/N(d) 100% in Ru...

Public Health Management in RS during COVID

Security Forum 2022, 2022

The authors discuss public health management in the Republic of Serbia in the emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The specificity of the pandemic is that all health systems in the world are unprepared for this kind of threat. The pandemic crisis has shown that health systems are exposed to the most significant burden for public health management. Namely, the reactions and management of the healthcare system during a pandemic are primarily dependent on resources. It turned out that public health management in countries where health systems are still state-owned has shown greater adaptability to sudden and unforeseen circumstances than health systems in economically developed countries. In these countries, the health system is privately owned, and public health is only dealt with by an administration that has no authority over these health systems. One of such adaptable and resilient health care systems is in the Republic of Serbia. The state health care system in the Republic of Serbia operates on the entire territory. Therefore, the public health component in the Republic of Serbia is primarily focused on the population's health and takes place at all levels, national, regional and local. Even before the COVID 19 epidemic outbreak in March 2020, the health care system of the Republic of Serbia was facing severe challenges in terms of organization financing and provision of services. But, despite that, the system has shown resilience and adaptability to this emergency from the very beginning. The fact is that the system has slightly changed and modernized after the period of socialism, and public health is dealt with by health institutions owned by the state, i.e. citizens of the Republic of Serbia. In everyday work, the system barely functioned due to insufficient financial resources and inadequate education, especially education for dealing with emergencies such as the Covid 19 pandemic, lack of personnel, disincentives for health workers, and overtime work. Nevertheless, in a brief time, the health care system has adapted to extraordinary circumstances and continues to work to maintain the public health of the population of the Republic of Serbia. Therefore, it can be said that, despite all the weaknesses from the previous period, during the pandemic, public health management worked in the function of caring for and recovering patients in the best possible way.

Could be efficient management a solution for the success against Covid-19

MATEC Web of Conferences

Globally, the last 15 months have put health systems under unprecedented pressure during the last century, facing significant challenges in the management of organizations, patient care and the protection of medical staff, and the time to respond to the needs of communities. The context created by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic shows us how important the functionality of a health system is, how manages could prevent the spread of the virus, how the number of tests or vaccinations could stop the spread of the virus. It is also important to provide access to health services for as many patients as possible, especially for those in vulnerable categories, but also to succeed in ensuring maximum safety conditions for specialized personnel (doctors, nurses, paramedics, ambulance drivers, pharmacists etc.). The authors considered that the essential features of each health system, in the analysis of how they responded to the challenges of the SARSCoV-2 (or COVID-19) pandemic, must be analyzed from...

This article presents the entire experience of anti-epidemic and preventive work done in the Republic of Uzbekistan in the fight against a new coronavirus infection. The main strategy of the republic was to counter the spread of coronavirus, which was aimed at tight control of the growth of the epidemic and minimization of economic damage. The spread of infection forced the government of the republic to introduce practical restrictions (isolation mode), the termination of external and internal transport links, and the restriction of the functioning of enterprises. In the fight against the pandemic, the following were actively involved: primary prevention, aimed at preventing disease and daily prevention; secondary prevention, including measures for early diagnosis and treatment of the disease and tertiary prevention, the task of which is the maximum possible restoration of body functions after the disease and its complications.

COVID-19 Pandemic: Management emergencies response and lesson learned from the Globe

WHO released the COVID-19 Pandemic that hit at least 223 countries and territories and global confirmed cases reached nearly 103,631,793 people and 2.17% of them died. Countries such as China, America, Europe, Belgium, Taiwan and Brunei Darussalam, have made various ways and efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, which can be taken as potential practices and lessons. This literature review aims to investigate best practices that can be learned in emergency response and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic from various global countries that can be taken as learning and common good. This study method is a literature review, by accessing several peer-reviewed literature articles between 2020 and 2021 related to emergency response and lessons learned of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Based on the literature review that has been analysed, practices and lessons learned in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic can be identified, including: extensive public health infrastructure, establishment of temporary hospitals, effective isolation methods, increased social distancing, surveillance systems with digital technology, community involvement, and lock-down as a last alternative to inhibit the spread, as well as a crisis management approach from an Islamic perspective. It can be concluded that emergency response in decision making and policy is a very influential factor in the success of controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.
